The beginning intrigued me, the middle rather bored me, and the last third did both.

Interesting story, but not necessarily enough that I would recommend it.

After reading the tagged book, I managed to finish the whole list of #BigJuneReadathon prompts! Although I definitely didn‘t keep up with posting every day, I‘m glad I was able to read one book per prompt. 😄

There are so many weird cults.

I don't get it, how do all these cult leaders get so many followers? What's wrong with people?

Or rather, why is so much wrong with people?

5⭐️ When I think about this book there are no other words I can actually come up with besides ‘horrifically beautiful‘. This book is not just about a cult,but more about the girls faith and how she found peace. However; I do want to emphasize that there are multiple potential triggers within this book that people should consider before starting to read it. With that being said, this book is a five star read for me and I absolutely recommend it.

I found this on Audible Plus and it‘s read by the author. I grabbed it because I‘ve read several books by former members of this cult and I was curious to get a child‘s perspective. I found parts of this very engaging but the writing came across as very juvenile. So it‘s not great, not totally terrible, but has very little to do with the actual cult. She had a terrible childhood and I feel for her. 3⭐️

Categorically terrible. Where's the tea? Spoiler alert, there is none. This is the least culty cult memoir I have ever read. It's a no from me.

Interesting memoir of a girl from a radical sect of the Morman faith.

Not the most amazing writing, but a truly incredible story. Anna‘s emotion is clearly displayed in every story she tells. Definitely worth the read!

Day 7 of #ReadingResolutions photo challenge was #MemoirMonday (trying to catch up) I came across these two book this year. They are stories on how these two young girls (who are now strong inspirational women) escaped polygamist cults they were born into. I didn‘t even know what a polygamist cult was but once I heard about these ladies and their stories I had to read these books! Very inspiring stories!

I am glad that LeBaron told about her childhood, & it was fascinating to hear about what it was like growing up in a polygamist cult, especially since she left it quite early. She seems like a genuine person, & she overcame a lot. However, & I recognize that I am speaking from my own bias here, I was sad that she moved from one kind of religion to another that I feel is problematic. I‘m glad it brings her peace, & I will try to leave it at that.

This memoir is written by Anna, daughter of infamous cult leader, polygamist, and murderer Ervil LeBaron. Anna bravely escapes the cult at a young age and continues to battles its hold. While interesting, it's written from an emotional distance that makes it clumsy. It's clear Anna is respectfully protecting the privacy of her family, leaving the story feeling incomplete and secretive. I like my memoirs raw. This one had too much restraint.

My Kindle Oasis arrived today with the cover I purchased for it. It‘s great! I love how easy it is to type and find my way around. Also love that I can flip it around depending on which hand doesn‘t feel tired. Love the resolution and already got my Bluetooth headphones set up! Happy with my choice. Getting ready to ship my Voyage back as a trade in which makes this not so expensive an upgrade. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

This book right here was so incredibly interesting. I suggest that you read it! It is the story about Anna Lebaron life growing up in a polygamist colony and how she was able to break free of that when she was just a teenager. This is an incredible story. There is also another book called The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner which is also amazing. Anna and Ruth stories are ones I will never forget!

It was a very interesting experience to get an inside look of a cult from through the eyes of a child. This wasn't the best written memoir, but Anna LeBaron has quite the story to share, and does so very transparently.

I'm a bit behind on posting! I listened to this on audio and I really liked it. It's crazy how these things happen in this day and age. I love how some of her family helped her escape. Very good listen.

Finished listening to this one this morning. Found it very religious - which isn't really surprising just the tone behind the religion a little bit. I found the story itself important and informative but the writing and actual reading of it poorly done.

Not sure what he is pondering but I'm pondering which should I read first - Sound of Gravel or The Polygamist's Daughter? 🤔
