Fondazione 2
Fondazione 2 | Isaac Asimov

I took a loooooong bike ride through an area full of Little Free Libraries, one of which coughed up this beautiful copy of the Foundation Trilogy! I haven‘t decided if I‘ll keep it or give it to my dad, who loved these books way back in the day.

🎧 Scott Brick ... I grew up listening to this guy. I feel like he was around at Audible‘s inception. His somewhat whiny narration is generally a comfort listen for me so I automatically liked this book.

I can only hope you aren‘t reading this as it‘s about to get embarrassing. Every time he says “Weenus” in his serious voice 😆 poor Isaac, how could he have known that this reader would have such a childish sense of humor.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 👇🏻👇🏻

Twainy Out the airlock in the NUDE? What!!?! That was random. 😆 xoxo

So the story. An empire far in the future is dying & only the creator of the science of psychohistory can see that there‘s 30K years of dark ages coming that will decimate humanity. He takes all of the scientists who can save humanities collective knowledge to a far off planet for recording all knowledge and calls it The Foundation. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
4y
Twainy Oddly some sentences stop .. I thought I was missing something or there was trouble with playback so I got out my B&N exclusive and see that the author wrote the book like this 🤨 I see what you‘re doing Isaak, it‘s punishment for my laughter. 😆 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y
Twainy This is an older book published like 80 years ago so while it‘s a little dated it‘s still just fascinating to see the Foundation stuck with the choice of letting their planet be overcome by the warlords springing up as the empire dies or fight & possible die itself.

I apologize for the silliness. I enjoyed the book. I‘ve only read book one so now I need book 2. I see the BBC has a dramatization, need that too!

Half star for ... weenus. 😉

Re-read the Foundation Trilogy through audio radio presentation. The presentation had a feel of the 1960s, rather like an early Dr Who episode with William Hartnell, I thought they went for a dated feel but when searching found out it was produced in 1973! Okay but would be interested to hear what a major production could do for it. A great story but as mentioned by some today does lack female characters.

Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano Definitely worth a re-read. 4y
Vansa I have both the books and the BBC radio adaptation, which would you recommend? 4y
Andrew65 @Vansa The book has more detail as it is a dramatisation rather than a narration of the books, so I would recommend the book first and foremost. (edited) 4y

TheSpineView What are your thoughts so far? 4y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView I am enjoying it, but strangely produced feels like a 1960s production with its style. Currently 2 hrs 15 mins into it. Listening to remind me of plotting before reading the other books after the trilogy. (edited) 4y
CocoReads Awesome work! 4y

Andrew65 Thanks, going well. 👍 4y
TheSpineView @Andrew65 I am noodling on rereading the series again. Maybe I'll just stick to a physical book 4y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView I re-read the trilogy as physical books 2 years ago which I did as physical books and really enjoyed. I now want to read books 4 - 7. 4y
TheSpineView @Andrew65 Good plan!😊 4y
StaceGhost I know it‘s a classic but I was real annoyed by the lack of strong female characters with actual names 4y
Andrew65 @StaceGhost Yes a victim of the time it was written in I feel. 4y
Ruthiella @Andrew65 @StaceGhost The lack of female characters and excess tobacco use dates it as well! 4y
Andrew65 @Ruthiella I wonder whether the later ones written in the 1980s and the 1990s address this, as compared the ones written in the 1950s. (edited) 4y
Ruthiella @Andrew65 you‘ll have to tell us! I‘ve only read the first trilogy. Ive read some books by Philip K. Dick from the ‘60s that also have a lot of smoking despite the futuristic setting. 4y
Andrew65 @Ruthiella I hate a lot of the detective books that constantly talk about smoking. 4y

So, my book club‘s consensus is that the trilogy doesn‘t work as well as reading all seven books in the series. Start with Foundation and it‘s a so-so. Start with Prelude to Foundation and it‘s a pick! And everyone else in my club giggled at Wienis too!

2. Science Fiction, History
3. Simon R. Green, John Scalzi and many more...
4. Deathstalker, Old Man's War, Dhalgren, Lord of Light, Starship Troopers, Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore and tagged book

Bklover I just bought Old Man‘s War a couple weeks ago. I‘d never heard of it. Glad to know you liked it! 6y
RamsFan1963 @Bklover I loved the whole series, but I think the first one is the very best. Classic space opera. As the series goes on, it becomes more political, less action oriented. 6y
Bklover I was browsing through Barnes and Noble and was wondering if I could possibly still pick out a book for myself without consulting Litsy and Old Man‘s War was what I ended up with. Guess I chose a good one! 6y

You can‘t beat the classics. Isaac Asimov wrote some great science fiction books, a true favourite! Many years in my youth spent on these. #ASpacemanCameTravelling #WinterWonderland

myellenbee Also check out the Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun ,and The Robots of Dawn. A trilogy with a policeman and his partner a robot. Also by Asimov. 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve never read Asimov although he is probably a pioneer in sci-fi 6y
SleepyDragon I plan to reread the trilogy some day, as I don't remember very much. Question, though. Do you recommend the entire series, or just the original trilogy? 6y

I just got my TBR pile set for the #readathon and then I got a NetGalley book, my #PageHabit box and an Asimov collection at the library book sale. I think this is the definition of a dilemma.

Leftcoastzen Great haul. 7y
Leftcoastzen Those Asimov titles ! Great collection. 7y
Morr_Books @Leftcoastzen I actually had to fight an old woman for the Asimovs. She came in and bought all thirty bags of vintage books. I kindly ask her to release the Asimovs to my care and she relented. 😉 She was nice though and I appreciate that. 7y

My #birthdaybookhaul (and yours truly) from day 1. The stack is fairly small, but we had limited time today. And I was trying to orient myself more than spending my entire birthday book budget in one go. 😆
I have Asimov's three first Foundation books, Wise Children by Angela Carter, Primo Levi's Periodic Table, and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys.

Psychohistory rules! Although this is considered a scifi classic Foundation didn't involve me as much as Red Mars. But it is still a excellent book for those who love SciFi. "For 12000 years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it's dying. But only Hari Seldon, creator of the psychohistory, can see into the future -- to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last 3000p years." Entertainment level: ???#Clary #Sha2016

I actually listened to an older audio production of this on the Internet Archive, and because the quality was difficult to take, it took me much longer than it should have. Different time, and all that. But the stories are good, despite that. #readinglog #sciencefiction

DivaDiane I read this aloud to my husband. Well, actually, we still have #3 to read. His style takes some getting used to and the dialogue is often cringeworthy, but I'm glad we read it. My husband read them as a teenager (in Italian) and is now wondering why he was so obsessed. 7y

Ventured out of my comfort zone with this one, I've never read anything in the sci-fi genre and I'm so glad I started with this. I wasn't sure what to expect but I couldn't put this down or stop talking about Hari Seldon and the Foundation. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected to. Makes me wonder what else I'm missing.
