This Time Next Year
This Time Next Year | Sophie Cousens
Their lives began together, but their worlds couldn't be more different. After thirty years of missed connections, they're about to meet again... Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990--and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before. When Minnie unexpectedly runs into Quinn at a New Year's party on their mutual thirtieth birthday, she sees only more evidence that fortune has continued to favor him. The gorgeous, charming business owner truly seems to have it all--while Minnie's on the brink of losing her pie-making company and her home. But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each fraught encounter leaves them both wanting more? A moving, joyful love story, This Time Next Year explores the way fate leads us to the people we least expect--no matter what the odds.

I liked this story of connecting with someone over and over until it finally clicks. Taking place on multiple New Year‘s Eves and days, it was great read for the season. I didn‘t love it but the clever story building and pacing pushed it from a so-so. #wintergames #wordsearch 2060 points, 26 for holiday read and post. #bookspinbingo #dashingdecember @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65

A friend recommended this to me, describing it as a throwback to early 2000s-style British "chick lit", which I devoured at the time. (My kingdom for another Liz Young book!) She was right on- this is such a sweet love story with a charming main character, a great supporting ensemble, and a London setting that had me yearning for Primrose Hill and the Hampstead ponds. Just the right thing to read over several indulgent nights in by the fireplace.

Over the past 5 months, I've been so grateful for the chance to reclaim my weekends. Coming off a job where overwork was the norm, it's been incredible to regularly have the entire weekend off - it's such a simple thing but I'm so appreciative. The best Sundays lately have been the ones spent passing time at a gorgeous cafe near my house, always with a book. Today's treats pictured here in all their restorative glory! #CurrentlyReading

PG-13 slow burn romance. Been a while since I‘ve read something with characters that I like, and I almost teared up at one point. I thought it was pretty good. However, a point off for no epilogue.

I liked the concept but the execution was bad. Too much going on and I couldn‘t care about the characters in any real way.

This was a cute, slow burn rom-com with a fun, Serendipity-like premise except with a New Year's birthday setting. I put a hold on this book without really reading the synopsis, after enjoying one of the authors other books, so how serendipitous that it would center around NYE. I didn't love it as much as Just Haven't Met You Yet, but it was a light, comforting read! 🥂 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Minnie and Quinn were both born mere minutes apart in a race to become the first baby of the New Year. Their lives may have began together, but where they ended up were world‘s apart. 30 years later they find themselves in the same place at the same time. Is it only coincidence or are they destined to be together?

Wanted to reread this one before sticking it in my #LittleFreeLibrary and I think I enjoyed it more the second time around!

A refreshing unputdownable read which I adored from start to finish. Quinn and Minnie are born on the same day, at the same hospital but one minute apart. Their lives couldn‘t be anymore different.,
Thirty years later they find themselves meeting up at the same time and the same place. What can this chance meeting mean? Quirky characters, great injection of humour throughout and some real feel good moments. The book also covers some adult themes.

Similar to my husband and I, the two main characters had many an opportunity to meet before actually doing so, but all the jumping around was not the way I would have told this story. Love, love, loved the sub-characters and side storylines and the spin on friends to lovers story.

Spanning multiple New Year‘s Eves, this was a festive and heartwarming read to start out the year! I enjoyed Minnie and Quinn‘s romance, but especially loved the themes of personal growth and friendship.

Not my usual genre, but an enjoyable first read for the year (selected for its New Year‘s Eve framework).

There‘s a sweet romance at the novel‘s core, but it‘s surrounded by self-discoveries and solid friendships and renewed familial affections…all of which offer love stories of their own.

This was a spur of the moment BOTM pick and I‘m so glad I snagged. I loved the way it was written, a nonlinear timeline building more connections between Minnie and Quinn. It‘s very light on the romance, but Minnie‘s self discovery more than made up for that.

First book of 2022 finished. This was set around New Year‘s Eve/Day so it was holiday-appropriate. I liked the two main characters and enjoyed following their story, built around a theme of good luck vs bad and whether what looks like a charmed life really is.

My NYE and NY day (well, morning) plans were made months ago when I decided to save this book for the occasion. I really enjoyed how this was written, how flashes back in time for both Minnie and Quinn unknowingly involved the other. It was a nice set up for the fate of a romance novel. I also liked that each understood their need to discover who they were independent of a relationship.

Jennifer3 I really liked this one too! It was a good one. 2y

This was different than I expected, in a great way. Minnie has always resented Quinn because he was born one minute before her on New Year's, winning a prize her family needed & stealing her name. Then they meet on their 30th birthday and start spending time together. The chapters flip between the present & previous new year's, showing the two perspectives and the missed opportunities they've experienced. The character growth was really well done.

The character development in this story is top-notch! I wish I heard more about Quinn, it seemed the story focused a lot on Minnie. Quinn‘s story had a lot more to be explored, very tragic and all. The author did an excellent job of jumping from different POVs in a way that wasn‘t confusing. Great read!

Do you ever wonder how many times you crossed paths with the important people in your life before you actually met them? This book shows how it might happen with a timeline that jumps between the past and present. The characters felt real to me. This was a perfect year-end read with it‘s new year theme! It speaks to crosses paths, destiny, luck, good friendships and mental illness. There‘s a lot in this book, but it never felt heavy.

This was a very cute rom com book. I could definitely see this as a movie and I wish it would be turned into one! It was a unique take on the rom com tropes with multiple meet cutes and often in not cute ways. I was invested from the beginning on these characters, and their meetings and what their relationship could become.

This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens is a book about a woman who has awful luck on New Year‘s Eve ever year and her birthday happens to be New Year‘s Day. She meets a man whose story intertwines with hers in a lot of unbelievable ways. This is a rom-com story. I could definitely see this being a hit movie. The writing was good, but very predictable for me. I enjoyed it, but it didn‘t blow me away.
