I have had this on my shelf for some years, and today felt like the right time to start it! Only one chapter in, and I like it so far!

I didn‘t know much about Edgar Allan Poe before starting this one especially the part about marrying his 13 year old cousin when he was 27.

I‘m actually surprised how much I liked this one! Despite the subject matter, Cullen crafts a page turner that held my interest from page one. I thoroughly enjoyed the depictions of a young New York City. I geeked out whenever other famous writers from the age popped up unexpectedly. The story is of course tragic, I mean it has to do with Poe, how could it end truly happily? A darkly wonderful read.
My #WeekendReading plans are to finish this odd book and possibly another to get a #BookSpinBingo. Not sure how I feel about this one so far. Cullen is certainly good at keeping my interest piqued, but I just can‘t get on board with the MC‘s lust for Poe. He‘s never been one I would imagine as a love interest…and affairs/cheating are kind of a trigger for me. 😅 I know from history this doesn‘t end well, so we‘ll see how it goes… 😬
I started this book over a year ago and was determined to finish. There‘s really nothing wrong with this book. It gives a nod to Poe‘s dark and suspenseful writing. But why did it take me so long to read/listen to? I can‘t answer that. It wasn‘t just not the time because when I picked it up again it still wasn‘t. But there‘s nothing wrong with the story.
This book was inspired by literature's most haunting love triangle of Edgar Allan Poe, his mistress's tantalizing confession, & his wife's frightening obsession. In 1845 Poe's, The Raven, is all the rage in New York City. Frances Osgood goes to meet Mr. Poe at a literary gathering. She is overwhelmed by his magnetic presence and finds out that he admires her poetry. She finds herself falling under the spell of this mysterious, complicated lover.
I‘d call this more of a historical romance than historical fiction. It was interesting reading about Poe in New York, and I could imagine him being aloof and not the life of a party. But most of the book is Mrs Osgood bouncing between how much she and Poe adore each other and how wrong it is for them to love each other since they‘re both married to other people. It was actually quite annoying.
I mostly finished it because it was my #bookspin.

If you love historical fiction, you'll love this novel.
I read the book Mrs. Poe and I highly recommend it for any historical fiction lovers. It has romance in it as it is about Edgar Allen Poe's affair. This book showed me a whole new side of Me. Poe and introduced me to a litany of people. It really made me wonder how much was real and how much was fiction.
Replenishment stack 2/3 for my #AutumnalColors Display! 😁
Yes, I needed to add this many books to one display. 😆🙈
Have you read any of these?!

I loved the tagged book, and think it would be a perfect slightly creepy and atmospheric read for this time of year.
This is probably a crow not a raven, but I‘m sure we can let that slide😜

Misty! Thank you for the book 😊 and also for the tissue paper, which Froedrick loves to play with. He thinks it works like an invisibility cloak 😸. He‘ll spend the whole evening scooting across the floor on it and hiding under it to ambush us.
The book sounds really good, I look forward to reading it! You‘re the sweetest. 🍭
Just got this lovely thing back from #LMPBC #Round5
💙💜📚❤️💛
Thanks so much for a fantastic round @Littlestbookshelf @Mynameisacolour @Bookwormjillk !!
@HufflepuffGirl90 this is headed your way! I mailed it out on Saturday so it should be there soon. Sorry for it being so late (as usual)! Also, I have been looking for the bookmark my husband gave me for our anniversary. I had it last while reading the summer wives. Did I mistakenly send it to you? I have looked everywhere! 😭 It‘s blue leather with my initials. My toddler probably threw it in the trash or something but thought I would check.
Cullen‘s envisions a non-platonic relationship between Edgar Allan Poe and the poet Frances Osgood in this historical fiction novel based upon their relationship. Whether any of this is true or not we don‘t know, but Poe was known to be a lady‘s man. I may be misremembering a scene where he visits Frances in the rain, sans #Umbrella , but it‘s clear from the early days of their acquaintance that neither wants to be “just friends.” I liked this one
Milking this broken foot for all it‘s worth while camping this weekend.
Thanks to #maymakeup I was able to finish this up for #lmpbc tonight! Great pick @HufflepuffGirl90 !
@Bookwormjillk I will be sending this your way saturday.

I made the mistake of sitting down with my book way too far away from me..... now I‘m trapped. So glad I keep a few books handy on my phone, though looks like I won‘t be getting through my #LMPBC book tonight. 😔

My current mood. I go through phases. This month, I've been reading and watching a lot of Sherlock Holmes and now Poe's books and books inspired by Poe.
Do you go through phases?
Edgar Allan Poe as a love interest? Yes, please! Cullen looks at the affair Poe and Frances Osgood had in 1845-1846. She writes a captivating account that includes a touch of a thriller element (it is Poe, after all). The author‘s note ties in well all of the detailed research she did for the book. A perfect choice for me as a Poe follower, and even my historical fiction book group liked it!

Confession: I already adored Poe, but I think I fell just a little bit more based on this passage. Who knew he could be so passionate?? Even though this is fiction, wow!
I added this to my #MountTBR on a whim a few years ago. I‘m so glad I finally dove in! It was a fun summer read set in 1845 NYC and featured many famous literary and art figures. #mountTBRchallenge @DivaDiane
Staying in the theme of books about literary figures... #MountTBRchallenge
My little treasure from #BigBookSale!!! 😁
@StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego there are just so many books! It was unbelievable 😁

After being abandoned by her husband, Frances Osgood supports her daughters by selling poetry. She thinks “The Raven” is trash, but is entranced by its author. As the flirtation between Edgar Allen Poe and Frances intensifies, weird coincidences make Frances fear for her life. Is Mrs. Poe as frail as she seems, or a master manipulator?
I loved the way the author wove her “what ifs” through the historical record to create the mystery/romance.
Some facts but mostly a fictional tale of the affair between Edgar Allan Poe and Francis Osgood. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was hooked from the get go. Very compelling and heartbreaking and I couldn't put it down.
Virginia Poe refers to Edgar as Eddie! I just can't even 😂😂😂
While waiting for the library clock to move ever-so-slowly toward closing, I shall enjoy this lovely book. Likey. Likey.
Been ill for a week and finished my pile of books checked out from the Library. Finally getting to this anticipated book!
Thanks so much for this sweet little care package as my new knee and I recuperate! When I am finally out of my Percocet Coma (which will be soon as these mess with your system😳😳), I will read and enjoy👊👊😍!
My bags are packed, I'm ready to go! #springbreak #Beach #underpacked?
I am 100% trash for anything 1840s New York so LET'S DO THIS
Thank you so much @Lmstraubie for my sweet #listygoespostal goodies! Mrs Poe is on my TBR list and I can't wait to get started reading. I believe I shall be having chocolate for breakfast! Happy Valentines Day #littens and thanks again Lisa. @BookishMarginalia thanks for arranging this awesome exchange. When's the next one? 😊
So, I stopped by a local library to turn in a completed book challenge form in hopes of winning a prize. And as I departed, I stumbled upon a room filled with books for 15 cents a piece !!! Now, I definitely do not need ANY more books, and yes, I am desperately trying to read what I own, but who could resist? Not me! #nevertoomanybooks
#AllHallowsRead #ScaryReads #SpookyOctober I really enjoyed this novel about the supposed love affair between Edgar Allan Poe and poet Frances Osgood based on the fact that they exchanged public love letters. Poe's wife Virginia is portrayed as a very mysterious figure, sweet on the outside but really manipulative and scheming as she tries to befriend Frances.
