Getting this started today at work... really hoping things don't get too messy here!!! 😭😭😭

I bored this as an audiobook from my library. I will be buying my own copy. This gives huge insight into human behavior based on life experiences. It helps me to understand the generational little 't' trauma in my own family and how better to approach my students when they are disregulated.
"Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different."
Reading this one for a class I‘m taking.
Alternating between this book and some lighter fiction tonight. Really enjoy the conversational narrative between Oprah and Dr. Perry as they discuss how trauma impacts life. They weave stories and information together in a well balanced way to not make it too heavy emotionally or informationally.
Highly recommend the audiobook, it feels like an interview session between Oprah and Dr Bruce Perry. Excellent job of weaving together neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, Dr Perry‘s clinical case studies, and Oprah‘s own trauma and years of work interviewing various trauma survivors.
I‘ve been revisiting this book for sometime now. It‘s too intense to finish in one session. I‘d definitely recommend it to anyone who has gone through trauma or anyone trying to understand another person/colleague/friend.
I was VERY surprised by how much I liked this. I'm super skeptical of celebrities telling us how to live our lives or how to be happier, but since this is based on actual brain science (and co-written by a doctor) I was intrigued. It gave me a ton of perspective on some difficult relationships in my life. I highly recommend this. Oprah and Dr. Perry both read the book, too, which made it even better, imo.

I don‘t own a copy of this book but I will make a point to add this to my collection! This is so informative on everything you ever wanted to know about trauma in children. The book was so informational. Anyone who works with children should Make this a must read. I loved the audiobook and listening to the discussion from Oprah Winfrey and Dr Perry. Highly recommend
A transcript of a conversation between Oprah and her therapist.
I had to read this book for a trauma conference I am going to and boy am I glad this was required reading! This is one powerful piece of literature and by reading this I will be better for myself, my family, my friends and my students!
My current book stack!
No other self help book I have read has reasonated with me as much as this one has. This book delves into what made us who we are today. I always knew that our childhood developmental stages and our experiences during these stages determines who we become and how we deal with life's challenges and experiences in our adult life. A truly life changing read, if you read any self help book this year, I highly recommend it be this one.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I listened to this and thought it was great. Dr Perry brought information and experience. Oprah brought experience and stories. It was difficult to listen to at times because of my own trauma but it was not overwhelming for me. I have quit other books like this but felt this one was a good balance. I will prob just listen again to it a second time right away.
As if I didn't have enough reading to do, my next trauma reads came through! #LoriGottlieb #MaybeYouShouldTalkToSomeone #WhatHappenedToYou #BrucePerry
So, I bailed on this book. It‘s not because the content isn‘t filled with knowledge, it‘s because it felt hopeless. I don‘t recommend this book for anyone who suffers from trauma. It is very triggering and made me feel like “what‘s the point of trying?” It may be a great book for those without trauma to understand those that have it. Instead of asking people “What‘s wrong with you?” we should be asking “What happened to you?” Oprah and a brain scientist talk about how trauma causes adult maladaptive behavior. I‘m listening to the audiobook and it comes across a bit like a podcast honestly! The science isn‘t too complicated to understand and they‘re using a lot of real world examples showcasing what concept they‘re trying to put forth. Enjoying this one @ 1.2x speed 🙇♀️
This book is so important. I highly recommend it.

Important read for clinical staff, practitioners, childcare workers, educators, parents, family members, etc. The stories both Dr. Perry and Oprah share are moving and effective in helping understanding the ways trauma impacts children, adults, and relationships. A win for digestible science!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I listened to this on audio which was a great format. It discusses several of the same concepts as The Body Keeps the Score but was easier to understand for a non-psych-major like me. I recommend this for any and all people interested in the way trauma affects us. It‘s absolutely excellent.
This was fantastic on audio listening to Dr. Perry and Oprah in conversation talking about trauma. Highly recommended.
I got so much out of this one. It takes complex notions about the brain & trauma and explains it in a conversational way. It‘s kind and encouraging.
New library visit, with a splurge on coffee beans. Also, surprised to be able to grab the tagged. I thought I‘d have to wait months 😃
Completely fascinating. The book is presented as a conversation, in layman‘s terms and with specific examples that help you understand the concepts introduced. Dr. Perry has done a lot of research over the last few decades on the impact of trauma on children and how that plays out into adulthood. He also addresses how healing and building resilience are possible.
4/5 ⭐️
The science of understanding trauma and the brain… I find myself understanding my knee-jerk, unsaid/unexpressed reactions, thinking, “That‘s just your lizard brain talking.” I listened to this book on Scribd, and loved the conversational format between Oprah and Dr. Perry. I wish they delved more instances of trauma, I felt left wanting more, but this was a fabulous read. A lot of people said this is a book everyone should read and I agree!
Hands down one of the best audiobooks of the year for me. I approached with intimidation, expecting so much to go right over my head but the conversational approach to topics combined with stories, reflections, and techniques have me already adding this to my list to reread. It's honestly fantastic and worth your time. The audiobook is narrated by the author's and I'd recommend this format due to the conversational dialog within.
Asking “what happen to you” instead of “what‘s wrong with you”!!
Reading this books is learning, reflecting, and healing.
Highly recommended! 5 stars for sure!!
I think this should be required reading and I wish our school board ran more in services on how to help/support children coming to us with trauma than math
#Currentlyreading — I‘m 13% in, and fascinated!
Trying to get a handle on the laundry room. I feel like a hoarder 😫 but I‘ve moved some IKEA shelves ( out of the frame to the right) and my intent is to selectively choose the sewing, crafting, art supplies that go back on the shelves
I loved this book. I immediately started telling people that I need for everyone who works with the clients at my work in any capacity, as well as all the clients themselves, to read this book!Such brilliant discussions, and Oprah actually does a great job of helping Dr. Perry bring it down to a level people without psych training can understand. Plus, the audiobook sounds like a conversation between the 2 of them. Definitely recommend to everyone
Probably the best book I've read all year. Really a MUST read. The neuroscience is so interesting.
