Here are the choices for March's #ClassicLSFBC selection:

It's a very unusual and wide ranging selection. Voting is open from today until Sunday, to give people more time to chose. I'll announce the choice on Monday 03/03. As always, the book with the second most votes will be April's choice

The voting is done, and here are the winners. The Martian Chronicles will be January's #ClassicLSFBC selection, and The Zero Stone will be the pick for February. The Martian Chronicles should be available at just about any public library, and I've seen The Zero Stone available on Ebay for as low as $5 dollars. Good luck & Happy New Year!!

Hi Everyone!! I'm trying to be better with my mid-month check-in for #ClassicLSFBC. I hope everyone was able to find a copy of Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, either in print, ebook or audiobook. For those who don't know, December's selection for #ClassicLSFBC is Connie Willis' Doomsday Book. Originally published in 1992, it should be available in most libraries. The audiobook, which is a staggering 26 hours long, is available free on Spotify & Audible, if you have premium accounts. Good luck and happy reading.

With October rapidly slipping away, I hope everyone was able to find and enjoy a copy of Sundiver. It's now time to think about November & December selections for #ClassicLSFBC. If there are no objections, we will do it the same as the August-October picks, the book that gets the most votes will be November's choice and the second most will go to December. It gives people more time to locate the selections. Nominations are now open.

I'm sorry my check-in has been so late this month, it's been a long crazy week. I hope everyone was able to find, and has been enjoying, a copy of A Fall of Moondust. I first read this in my teens (a million years ago), but I think it holds up well. Just a reminder, October's selection is Sundiver by David Brin. If you have premium accounts with Audible or Spotify, it's available for free, but I'm sure most libraries also have a copy on hand.

The votes are counted, and August's #ClassicLSFBC selection will be Earth Abides by George R. Stewart. It beat A Fall of Moondust, by Arthur C. Clarke, by one vote so that will be September's selection. Coming in 3rd, October's selection, was Sundiver by David Brin. This should give everyone time to find the selections. Earth Abides and Sundiver are available free on Spotify, with a premium account.

I think the idea of a top three choices for the next three months is an excellent idea. Here's how I will count the votes. Pick your top three choices, in order of preference. The one that gets the most #1 picks will be August, the one that gets the second most #1 picks will be September and the third will be October. We only had two books nominated for #ClassicLSFBC June reading selection. The Forever War by Joe Haldeman and Deus Irae by Philip K. Dick & Roger Zelazny. Voting starts now until the end of the month. I'm throwing my vote for Deus Irae, but either book would make for interesting reading.

If there's no objections from the group, since all 3 books nominated for February interest everyone, Dhalgren will be the selection for February/March because it's a chunkster, Way Station will be April's selection (it's the shorter of the two remaining books and a breather after the chunkster), and Snow Crash will be the selection for May.

I hope that everyone is enjoying January's #ClassicLSFBC selection, The Dispossessed. It's getting to be mid-month, so it's time to be considering February's selection. Nominations are now open. My choice is kind of a chunkster, so if it wins, we might have it be February and March's selection. Dhalgren by Samuel R. Delany. I read it when I was 15-16, and I know a lot of it went over my head. I'd like to read it again to gain a new prespective.

It's getting into November, and I saw the post for #LitsySciFiBookClub, so I was thinking about what to pick for December's #ClassicLSFBC selection. I guess we can start the nominations now. My choice is A Case of Conscience by James Blish.
I know we haven't set any guidelines for #ClassicLSFBC, but what should be the cut off point to be a "classic"?
Anything before 2000? Before 1983 (40 years)?
