Read this both for #bookspin and #192025 as this book was published in #1920 .
The publishing date is the reason why there are some racist bits. Overall, if you just focused on the adventure and the animal shenanigans it was a good read.
Generally a pick.

Librarybelle I‘ve not read anything by Fitzgerald other than The Great Gatsby. I‘m not in a hurry to do so, either! 2y

My #192025 challenge pick for #1920 We see the small town through Carols eyes ,a woman who marries, leaving city life & a librarian job behind. While Carol thinks she might influence & improve the place , Lewis‘s plot shows the worst qualities of small town life.Judgement, suspicion of new ideas, rumors, etc. EG:Carol thinks if they put on a play, perhaps Shakespeare or modern drama, something aspirational, she is voted down, cheap musical it is!

Librarybelle I have this one out from the library to read for #1920 as well! 2y
Leftcoastzen @Librarybelle overall enjoyed it . Stylistically it wasn‘t an advance, what I liked was the general struggle someone interested in the arts , literature, and intellectual life has with a general population who at best isn‘t interested & at worst looks at those who are with suspicion. In Carol‘s case she had a job & liked city life. Just give it up & be a happy homemaker in Gopher Prairie! Bet even the Gophers left!😁 2y
Librarybelle Very good to know!! 2y

What I found most interesting in the book was the process in which the old ideas and standards slowly gave way to the new. It's hard to believe that the elite of New York City was once like this!

This is my #1920 entry for the #192025 challenge. @Librarybelle

I enjoyed reading F. Scott Fitzgerald's first novel, a story about Amory Blane, a young college graduate trying to find his way in post-World War I life.

jewright Amory annoys me so much! He‘s so whiny! What did you like about the book? 5y
CoffeeNBooks @jewright I really like Fitzgerald's writing style. He captures Amory's sense of angst over trying to find his purpose in life. 5y
jewright @CoffeeNBooks I love Fitzgerald‘s other books The Great Gatsby and The Beautiful and the Damned. I probably should try it again. 5y
CoffeeNBooks @jewright I love Gatsby! I have The Beautiful and Damned on my bookshelf, and it's the next Fitzgerald I plan to read. 5y
jewright It is my second favorite after Gatsby. I hope you like it! 5y

What an amazing book!

Does anyone have any recommendations for books set in the 1920s?
