Odd Thomas | Dean Ray Koontz
post image

1. _If_ I know the other person's taste and style, I LOVE recommending Dean Koontz for so many reasons that it'll have to be another post.
2. SpiderMan: Far From Home - cute, funny, good summer flick
3. Sweet corn! I'm so sad the rain made spring planting so bad in the Midwest.
4. Um...ten. I think.
5. Welcoming @Monstershaped from #habitica!

Red.Reads I recommend Odd Thomas to everyone too, haha. Its just fantastic, and possibly the only horror that's ever made me cry! I adore the whole series, and felt really sad after finishing it. I know some people complain about Dean Koontz' work, but he's never failed to engage and entertain me. 5y

Hogfather | Terry Pratchett

Pickpick

It's been good to return to Terry Pratchett's Discworld. I'm reading/rereading the whole series as part of a #habitica challenge, and Hogfather was new to me, but a delightful addition to the Death series. Gotta love the satire and parody mixed with just plain funny and highly skilled world- and character-building.

brit91 Beautiful picture! 5y
BookmarkTavern Hogfather is one of my favorites! 5y
Eggs Welcome to Litsy 🤗📚 5y
Red.Reads I *adore* the DiscWorld series. Ankh-Morpork was the place I often ran to when I was a kid and things were not great. The characters are so rich, the comedy is spot on. pTerry will always be one of my favourite authors, if not my absolute favourite. 5y

Bailedbailed

I picked this up for an #ownvoices read as part of a #habitica reading challenge. The description sounded right up my alley- recipes, history, and a touch of the fairy tale. The reality was a good deal stranger. There were several bizarrely sexual scenes and mystical elements mixed in with references to Mexican history and step- by- step recipes.
The whole thing was very jarring.

I picked this off my shelf for my next #habitica #modestreadingchallenge read. Absolutely loved this in high school, but don't think I've read it since. Which is a real shame considering a mutual love of this book is how I met my best friend!
I'm excited to see if the book is as good as I remember.

I had read this years ago and completely forgotten I even owned it. In a happy coincidence, it came up in a #habitica challenge right as the show premiered on Netflix. So I had to read it. I loved every minute of it! I had completely forgotten how funny Crowley and Aziraphale's interactions were!

AbigailDays @CoffeeNBooks thanks so much! I'm really enjoying seeing all the different books and commentary. This looks like a fun community! 5y

Went back to work after the furlough and immediately got sick. 😷 Guess I‘m allergic to work! 😜 It‘s amazing how being sick can throw you off your game! Channeling my inner Mary Poppins and trying this app #Habitica which makes daily tasks and big projects feel like a game. Hopefully this‘ll help me get back on track with everything, reading included! I am very behind if I want to meet my reading goal this year 😮 #Ifeeltheneed #theneedtoread

rather_be_reading your mug is so cool!! 5y
BooksMcD @rather_be_reading Thanks! Have you ever been to Voodoo doughnuts? They are sooooo good! 🍩 5y

DivaDiane Good luck? That‘s a great stack of books! Is there a KidLit book club here? I was planning on read Graveyard Book for a KidLit club on #habitica. 6y
Jess7 Nice!!! Yay!! Excited for #LitsyBuddyRead beginning next week for #MidnightattheBrightIdeasBookstore @CSeydel 6y
CSeydel @DivaDiane Thanks! The children‘s lit book club I‘m involved in is at Goodreads. I might not get around to Graveyard Book since I‘ve read it before and I have so many others in the stack. But it‘s short, so maybe ... (edited) 6y
CSeydel @Jess7 yeah that‘s why I requested it from the library but I didn‘t want to promise anything ... didn‘t know it would come in so quickly and I have all these other books already waiting 😬 6y
GingerAntics Oh my. I can't wait to see you tackle that entire stack. 6y
CSeydel I knew I was forgetting something #magicalMarch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @vkois88 6y
Erin7 Great list! March is going to be a good reading month. I can feel it😊 6y
CSeydel @GingerAntics no kidding 😂 the only question is ... which ones are going to get bumped to April? Or May... 6y
vkois88 Great choices! Lots of reading 😊😊 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Ohhhh I get excited every time I see someone reading ❤️❤️ 6y
CSeydel @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Maybe I‘m in the wrong frame of mind for this book. I‘m about halfway and I‘m just not getting it. It feels like nothing‘s really happening, but also not building toward anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CSeydel awww I‘m sorry!! Maybe it‘s the wrong time... I just love her writing style and Jojo and Kayla stole my heart!! 6y
GingerAntics @CSeydel hm...That's always a tough question. I always want to read everything NOW. lol 6y
CSeydel @GingerAntics Oh, same! 6y
CSeydel @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It‘s starting to pick up now. I sat up when Richie joined them in the car. Interested to see where she goes with that. The author does have a gift for beautifully phrased philosophical aphorisms. I‘ve noted several in my journal. But the whole thing is so sad. I‘m practically in tears at least once per chapter. 6y

I like the plan of attack that #LitsyAtoZ provides me. I followed @mrsmarch's suggestion and made them chunked to-dos in #Habitica with each letter as a checklist item. (Planned books are in the notes!)

As you can see, I'm doing title. My additional challenge is that none of these are graphic novels. *Most* are these are from my TBR list, but I honestly didn't have enough titles for the whole alphabet.

I tried to start #Habitica back in the summer, but my work stress was too intense and I didn‘t set myself up for success so I fell off. Then Amy died, and my focus and motivation went to hell in a handbasket. I took another shot at it this week and did a better job setting up my Habits and Dailies. I even set up a To-Do (with 14 part checklist!) for #passportlitsy2018! 😮 < — This is my wow face.

WarpedSweetness I need to set up lists for my reading challenges next year. I'm doing #litsypassport2018 also. I'm sorry about Any dying. :-( Sounds like you've had a rough year. 6y
Larkken Good idea for using Habitica! Sometimes I find it stressful to keep up with things even when they're fun, but maybe combining reading and lists in that app would make it less of challenge. 6y
mrsmarch @Larkken I also have to set up gameified incentives for taking my meds everyday. I‘m in dire need of organization 😂 6y

Larkken @mrsmarch I know what you mean! 6y
Jinjer Hello! I don't know you or who Amy is but I'm very sorry for your loss.😢I'm doing #litsypassport2018 also and am curious about your 14 point checklist! Could you show us or explain it? Thanks! 6y
mrsmarch @Jinjer oh, that‘s the easy part! Habitica let‘s you make checklists on a To Do item, so I made each book on my passport a check item and my Passport To-Do will be done when I complete all 14 books. 6y
Jinjer Ohhhh I get it! I thought you had some really cool to do items for each book. 😂 6y
mrsmarch @Jinjer Nope, totally not that cool sorry 😂 6y

So my book buying is out of control. I‘m implementing a #tbr20 challenge for myself. I have to read 20 physical books I already own or Netgalley ARCs before I can purchase another book. Here‘s the start with yesterday‘s #booknlunch - my diner has a “Redneck wrap” (hilarious) with fried chicken, bacon, corn, and mashed potatoes 😍, hand-cut fries, iced tea.

DivaDiane Good luck! I run a TBR reading group on #habitica if you do Habitica. 6y
BarbaraBB Great book! 6y
heikemarie @BarbaraBB I am loving it so far! It‘s going to be such a quick read, I am riveted. 6y

heikemarie @DivaDiane I tried Habitica and then it made my anxiety worse because I felt so guilty when I didn‘t do things 😟 I might have to give it another go! 6y
DivaDiane I get it! It's not for everyone, but the book guilds are fun. Mine is called Read Your Books. 6y
Sace I really like your 20 before you buy idea. My book buying has been out of control for decades and I've been pondering ways to rein it in. 6y
heikemarie @RestlessFickleBookSlut I had to think of something 😩in the light of day 20 seems like so many though 😂 6y
Sace 😂😂😂 Yeah. Maybe 10 or 15. 6y
