Royal Holiday | Jasmine Guillory

Pickpick

This was my first Jasmine Guillory book. It was nice to read a romance about a couple in their 50s. They had great communication, were so mature, no drama, it was great.

I‘m using this for #pop22 - set during a holiday - They celebrate Christmas, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

KarenUK Sounds lovely 🥰 now

Loved this one! I really enjoyed the character building and relationship building in this, and though it was very much a Stockholm Syndrome kind of story, it wasn‘t, though maybe that‘s what it‘s all about? 🙌🏼 #pop22 ~ a book featuring a party

RebelReader My favorite of Patchett‘s! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 59m

I listened to this one on a roadtrip today. I really enjoyed the narration! The story was good, but I kept thinking 1. These characters would be really fun to perform on stage and 2.The game Clue kept popping in my head ‘Mrs. White in the ball room with the pipe‘ 😂
#pop22 ~ a book that takes place on a train

KarenUK A classic! I love Poirot 😍 12h
Cortg @KarenUK It‘s my 1st! The only other AC book I‘ve read is 11h
Megabooks This is such a fun mystery and I love the Clue comparison! 9h

I think this book could have been a bit better. I‘ve had it on and off my TBR for a few years now.

It‘s about Nix who is a pirate, lives on a pirate ship and then can travel to different worlds and time periods if they have a map. Set mostly on Hawaii.

I picked this up for #pop22 because it‘s on a list for Pacific Islander authors.

#NovelNovember

Megabooks Interesting. I‘m sorry it wasn‘t quite as good as you hoped it would be. 6d
Cinfhen Echoing what @Megabooks wrote!!!! I remember seeing this title everywhere a few years back and was always curious about it. 6d
squirrelbrain I have to say I‘ve never even heard of this @Cinfhen 🤷‍♀️ 6d

AUDIOBOOKINGWITHLEAH I've listened to this...it was sooo slow. The cover is fantastic, though. 6d
Laughterhp @AUDIOBOOKINGWITHLEAH Yeah, I sped up the audiobook to get through it. 6d

Not sure exactly why I decided to pick up a book about bigamy. I needed a book set in the 80‘s for #pop22

This story has 2 parts, one following each daughter/wife‘s lives. One family knows about the other, but the other family has no idea James has been cheating their whole life/relationship.

Set in 1980s Atlanta. This story is about they affect each others lives.

#novelnovember - book 4 I think

BarbaraBB I really liked this one! 7d
Cinfhen I liked this one too @BarbaraBB but not as much as 7d
Laughterhp Yes! I liked An American Marriage too, which is why I picked up another book by this author! I was surprised that I liked this one too, because I hate cheating books. @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB 7d

Cinfhen True!! Both of these books involve cheating partners 7d
squirrelbrain I enjoyed An American Marriage but never really fancied this one! 7d
BarbaraBB I liked this one much better that An American Marriage 🤷🏻‍♀️ @Cinfhen 7d

So, I was super nervous to pick this up because I hated Daisy Jones (found it so boring and bailed🤷🏻‍♀️) #sorrynotsorry

However, this book was so much more interesting! I‘m so glad I picked this one up. I‘m using it for about a band or musical group #pop22

It‘s an oral history of Opal and Nev starting in the 70s and working to the present/2016.

#novelnovember - book 2 finished

Cortg Glad you liked this one! 2w
Megabooks Another one closer to finishing #pop22! 🤩 (edited) 2w

HOTPock3tt I didn‘t like daisy jones either 😂 glad you liked this one 2w
Cinfhen Great choice!! This book had more of an hf aspect too. I though DJ was fun but this book felt more solid. 2w
BarbaraBB I haven‘t read this one but DJ was boring indeed! 2w
squirrelbrain Nearly there - you got this! 😁 2w

I can see why Chambers has so many fans both here on Litsy and in the world because this is well written, but it just didn‘t work for me. Maybe I‘m too cynical or jaded this week but Dex‘s naïveté annoyed me and the robot reminded me of what I hate about the character Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sorry y‘all. ?

#HugoAwardWinner #pop22 1 more to go! I‘m sorry if I miss someone on the tags. It‘s been awhile.

KarenUK Almost there! 💕👍 2w
Laughterhp I like Becky chambers, but wasn‘t able to get into this one. 2w
Cortg I have this one checked out on my desk at work. Not sure if I‘ll get to it. Congrats for having just one more read for the challenge. That‘s awesome! 2w

Cinfhen It was “sweet” but agreed, annoyingly so!! This isn‘t a series I‘d want more of. But not every book is for every reader!!! 2w
RamsFan1963 I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who didn't love this 2w
Vansa I don't like Becky Chambers at all! She gives her characters really contrived resolutions. 2w
squirrelbrain I liked this, but it was a bit twee, and I don‘t think I‘d read any more of theirs. (edited) 2w
Karisimo I felt that halfway through the plot really stalled, as if the author got that far then decided to save the rest of the story for a sequel. 2w
Megabooks @KarenUK so excited! I just have this left 2w
Megabooks Wow! I‘m so glad I‘m not alone in not enjoying this! It just didn‘t work for me at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ @Laughterhp @Cinfhen @RamsFan1963 @Vansa 💯 agree about a contrived ending! @squirrelbrain twee is an excellent British word for it! @Karisimo 2w
Megabooks @Cortg thanks! I‘m interested to see what you think if you get to it. 2w
KarenUK Ooh, I really liked that one, so 🤞🤞🤞 2w

#BookReport 46/22

I read 4 books (loved 🦩 Flamingo!) and finished #pop22 and #pantone2022. I am sooo ready for next year‘s challenges, especially now that the #ToB23 longlist has been published as well as the #52books23 list. Still waiting for #pop24 but I am planning like crazy already!

sarahbarnes Flamingo is still on my list! I don‘t think it‘s been published in the US yet; at least my library still doesn‘t have it. 2w
Cinfhen I think #PoP23 will drop before thanksgiving!! So hopefully beginning of this week!!!! 2w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen That would be great! 2w
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I hope your library will have it soon, I think you‘ll love it too. 2w
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I‘m not sure it did either or whether the Amazon entry is really a BD entry. 🤔 I can‘t find it anywhere in person here. 2w

#pop22 - A social horror
@BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @jenniferw88 @Megabooks @alisiakae @Laughterhp @Cortg @Cinfhen @KarenUK

So far this is proving a compulsive read. Sometimes you don't realise how frightening certain concepts are until you see them fictionalised. Reading this book is showing me just how essential privacy and boundaries are to me.

Creepy 😶

Karisa I found that one haunting too. Someone hacked my Facebook account, and I‘ve been reminded of it these past couple of weeks 😬 Everytime I tried to reset my email/password, it emailed the hackers for confirmation. When I tried to contact FB for help, there‘s literally no one to call or email. The Circle is too close to life! 😅 2w
Cortg Good choice for this prompt! I haven‘t read it yet but have heard great things and has been on the ole TBR pile for quite some time! 2w
BarbaraBB I enjoyed this one when I read it years ago and thought it a very plausible scenario! 2w

RaeLovesToRead @Karisa Oh man, I'm sorry you've been through all that ☹🫂 It's so clever how it starts so positive and the negatives start creeping through in a very realistic way. *shudder* 2w
RaeLovesToRead @Cortg @BarbaraBB I'm about halfway through. So far it's difficult to put down (maybe because it doesn't have chapters). Review to come soon... 😊 2w
Cinfhen Great choice!! 2w
