Bookwormjillk I liked this more when I read it as a teen I think. As an adult I thought it was too long and SK was a bit too much with some of the sidebars. It read very late 70‘s early 80‘s to me. Still King do readable but not a favorite. 4w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk 💯 could have been a short story! 4w

JenlovesJT47 I enjoyed this and am looking forward to the movie adaptation! It is one long existential crisis that fills you with dread. 4w
AllDebooks I did not like this. I found it repetitive and overlong. It certainly was tense and horrifying. I agree, @BarkingMadRead it would be better as a concise short story. 4w
5feet.of.fury I didn‘t like it either. Weird side note though, there was a 20 mile race that went from Kittery Maine to Salisbury Massachusetts and goes through the part of Rt1 NH that they were on at one point. I was there once also trying to beat an aggressive time cut off 4w
KathyWheeler I liked it but feel it would‘ve worked better as a novella. I also have mixed feelings about the ending. 3w
ElizaMarie How will this change when the movie version comes out? I am curious to see what direction this goes - and what the movie ending will be. I enjoyed this book - I liked the boys' conversations throughout the walk and the different character developments. I agree with y'all thinking this would have fared much better as a novella. 3w
Karkar This was okay for me. Real middle of the road. It did do a very good job of stressing me out. 3w
Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures I felt like this would have been better as a novella. It had an interesting premise, but kinda lost itself for a bit. Really stressful in general, but I enjoyed the thought experiment of how psychologically and physically something like this would affect people. 3w
kwmg40 I'd read this book some years ago and, though I liked the story very much, I found it very disturbing and decided not to reread it at this time. I've always been intrigued by the real-life Swedish Fotrally race inspired by this book. Nothing terrible happens to the competitors that drop out of that race, thankfully! 3w
MatchlessMarie Late finishing this one.. is this a metaphor 🫣 It was physically exhausting reading this one as someone who struggles with daytime drowsiness reading about how tired all these guys were. 🫩 I also didn‘t realize it was being adapted. I will be interested to see the movie take on it. I really like the concept but it definitely dialed up the existential dread for me 😱 2w

Bookwormjillk I don‘t even know where to start! I don‘t think I‘ll ever get sick of reading and re-reading this one. 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk never ever ever. Always and forever my favorite! 2mo

PaperbackPirate I wanted to join in on this one but just didn‘t have the time. Maybe later this year! 2mo
TieDyeDude I really enjoyed the graphic novel adaptation. I'm not a fan of the artist's style, but it was consistent and the characters were discernable (which isn't always the case in comics with a large cast). The overall focus was more on the Colorado crew, but it never felt rushed or lacking. I would say the biggest miss was Trashy. His story kinda dropped off after he got to Vegas, so his role in the finale felt underdeveloped. 2mo
TieDyeDude I has been about 5 years since I read The Stand for the first time. I was surprised at how much came back to me as I was doing this re-read, though I mostly forgot the Vegas finale 🤷‍♂️ Maybe in another 5 years, I'll read the uncut novel 😋 Has anyone done this on audio? (edited) 2mo
Bookwormjillk @TieDyeDude yes, I did it on audio this time. It works. 2mo
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude how can they do that to poor Trashy! He‘s so important! 2mo
JessClark78 I‘m only about a hundred pages in, but this is my third or fourth time reading The Stand. I‘m always amazed at how King can write so many characters in one book. 2mo
kwmg40 I too am doing a reread, but I only got about a quarter of the way through before having to return it to the library. It's a gripping read but I had way too many books on the go already. I'll resume when I get the book again, and in the meantime, I'm really enjoying this more leisurely read, instead of the frantic page-turning experience last time, trying to find out what happens next. 2mo
bekakins I didn‘t manage to do a reread but this is one of my favourite King novels - such great character development in this one! 2mo
Roary47 I read this last year and have to say it‘s one of my favorites. 😍 2mo

Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 3mo
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 3mo

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 3mo
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 3mo
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 3mo
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 3mo
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 3mo
Karkar A little late to the party. This is one of my favorite of SK‘s short story collections. So many great ones in this book! 3mo
