Bklover This is one of my favorites of SK. The characters are real and so normal. This doesn‘t feel like horror to me. It feels like a tragic story of Johnny - a guy who happens to have special powers. I think the creepiness for me is how much he could be anyone. 6y

JulAnna I read this book once, a long time ago, and was very glad to re-read it now. I had not remembered the part of the story set in Castle Rock, and it was fun to see the introduction of those characters. There is still much about the book and the commentary on the tabloid press that is still relevant. I agree with @Bklover @CSeydel @BookwormAHN @daena - it is a great, tragic story. 5y

JulAnna Also, if anyone is interested in this sort of thing, Dees-the Inside View reporter- shows up again much later in a story in Nightmares and Dreamscapes. I always appreciate the SK universe ! 🤓 5y

so-so

I read #TheDeadZone for the #LosersClub buddy read this month. I didn't find the story as compelling or as cohesive as King's other books. I found it depressing and some of the research into mental health was inaccurate. (See spoiler below) It may just be my mood, but I was not that engaged. I have had trouble concentrating lately. I hope the next book brings me out of the slump.

Eggbeater A person with bipolar disorder typically wouldn't make a good serial killer. It's a disease of feeling way too much. The person is likely to have too much empathy for others to enjoy ritualistic killing. Seriously Stephen King, all it would take is one visit to your local psych ward to figure this out. 6y

DGRachel @LauraJ I don‘t know what is going on with Book Depository. They used to be so reliable but my last several orders have all taken 1-3 weeks longer to arrive, after I received shipping notifications, than they were supposed to. 😔 6y
