Bookwormjillk 🤣🤣🤣 I expected some sort of blah blah blah because it was such a long chapter but instead we got Jerry Springer 2mo

currentlyreadinginCO The problem w this book is that no one calls anyone by their name and I always have to reread everything to find out what happened! It took me a couple rereads to understand who was locked out and where everyone was at the end of this chapter 😂😂. But despite my constant complaining I'm actually really enjoying this and don't think I would have gotten this far w.o the buddy read, SO 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2mo
BarkingMadRead @currentlyreadinginCO my allergies are so bad today that it took me like an hour to actually get through it. I had to keep going back and reading it again. 2mo
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead I now am going back to nighttime reading with appropriate beverages…. This was ..😵‍💫🤪 ALOT. 2mo
dabbe @TheBookHippie The nighttime beverages make ALL the difference. 😂 #whichmanisthepan #panpanpan #paniepanpanie #myheadhurts 2mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe so confusing 🤣 I just let it go, I figured they wouldn‘t be around long enough to matter 🤣 2mo
TheAromaofBooks As usual, spot-on meme usage here 😂 2mo
dabbe @BarkingMadRead 🤩😍😂 2mo
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks absolute truth 🤣🤣 2mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk this is Jerry Springer on steroids 🤣🤣 2mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie I wish I had enough money to order a few cases of champagne to drink this with ( some blini and caviar would be a nice touch too) 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I don‘t like Vodka but it‘s probably what they drank 🤪👀😅 2mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish there‘s not enough champagne in the world for that chapter 🤣 it was so chaotic! 2mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead honestly I read this so loud in my head 🤕 2mo
Graciouswarriorprincess That was crazy! 2mo

Bookwormjillk This is one of the weirdest books I‘ve ever read in my life. 3mo

dabbe That photo says it all. #perfection 3mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk 😂😂😂 3mo
Graciouswarriorprincess I agree…wtf? This book is something else! 3mo
TheBookHippie I‘m pretending I‘m sitting at the bar listening to a drunk tell a very long story….. 3mo
Cuilin I do wonder why a chapter like this is added into a novel, as it never seems to move the plot forward. Is to highlight the suffering as that‘s a big theme of the book? Who knows? It‘s all rather fascinating though, if a little 🍌 👖. 3mo
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie 🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 3mo
Ruthiella So I listened to a pretty erudite book tuber about this book and he said the point of the novel is the age old question in Christian theology of why do humans suffer if there is a benevolent god looking out for us. So the plot is maybe all subservient to this idea and therefore occasionally whackadoodle. Also, FD had a son named Aleksey who died as a child, which was a huge blow. Generally FD‘s life was one of hardship, illness and grief. 3mo
Ruthiella Here‘s the link- though it is a long video. https://youtu.be/zpqES5V6iAg?si=Mt9Bwh8JgLfDneMZ 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella thank you for sharing!!! 3mo
Cuilin @Ruthiella oh that is fascinating. Thanks for sharing. 3mo
Cuilin @TheBookHippie save a barstool for me. 🥃🥃 (edited) 3mo
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella my friend told me to pretend I‘m reading Job from the Old Testament in the Christian Bible so … must be so! 3mo
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella thx for the link! 3mo
mcctrish Was Aloysha not supposed to deliver something to this second-captain? Money? Or did I miss something in the last chapter‘s yelling ?Biggest take away from this chapter? The insult “you‘re a little pile, and you smell vile” absolutely SAVAGE 3mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish yeah, he was supposed to give him money! Ugh 3mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead something to look forward to tomorrow 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
Aimeesue @Ruthiella Thanks for the link! 3mo
Aimeesue That IS the perfect illustration! 3mo
Bklover Still not caught up but not giving up! 3mo

Bookwormjillk That was really a lot. At one point I think I blacked out and came to a few pages later but they were still talking about who knows what. 4mo

BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk it felt like 100 years 🤣 longest chapter ever 🤣 4mo
5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk 1/2 of the chapter was just 1 whole loooooooong paragraph! It was too much lol 4mo
Ruthiella @Bookwormjillk @5feet.of.fury 😂 I died a little inside when I saw that wall of text. 4mo
willaful I'll be honest, I gave up reading days ago. Still enjoying the comments though. 😊 4mo
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella @5feet.of.fury I‘m so glad I wasn‘t the only one! @willaful maybe it will get better and you can jump back in 🤞🏻🤞🏻 4mo
currentlyreadinginCO Yeah idk bout this church and state debate... 4mo
emz711 Loving the Monty Python picture ;) 4mo
TheBookHippie For a moment I thought I was back in Les Mis stuck in the sewers… 😵‍💫😅👀😮‍💨 4mo
KAO Today‘s word that sent me scurrying for a definition: Ultramontanism. (From Britannica.com “in Roman Catholicism, a strong emphasis on papal authority and on centralization of the church.”) Whew! What a chapter! 4mo
BarkingMadRead @emz711 as soon as someone said tripping monks, i thought of this. I mean, they‘re not tripping, but still. I kind of wanted to whack myself in the head for this whole chapter so it totally fit. 4mo
TheAromaofBooks I was expecting this book to be depressing; was not anticipating being bored to death 😂 4mo
dabbe Imagine how everyone would have continued going on & on & on & on if they really were tripping. Holy guacamole, was that a loooooonnnnnnnggggggg chapter. #toomuchtimeontheirhands 💤💤💤 4mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe I laughed way too hard at this 🤣 4mo
CatLass007 Okay, I just finished listening to this and I am lost. I can‘t really figure out who is making which argument and I‘m not sure I care anymore. But I kind of understand the arguments. Socialism and Communism were on the rise and as we all know there was a revolution in Russia. Two things that happened were the murders of the royal family and the abolishment of religion. This argument is a foreshadowing of those events. 4mo
Daisey @Bookwormjillk @5feet.of.fury @Ruthiella So long! I also tuned out for a bit. This book brought us in with a couple short chapters and now this. 4mo
mcctrish Firstly, crossing by my legs, if ever there was a blah, it was followed by a blah, blah, blah. Secondly, recrossing my legs, I had forgotten that in order for Russia to abolish religion, it had to have it ( in spades) @CatLass007 is right with her points. Thirdly, more recrossing of legs, @willaful I laughed out loud at your comment #letskeepchurchandstateseperate (edited) 4mo
Ruthiella @TheAromaofBooks OMG that made me laugh! 😆🤣😂 Bring on the depressing misery! 4mo
Aimeesue @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣🤣 4mo
Vansa Sorry if I'm late to this, is there a readalong happening of this? I would like to join! Is it a chapter a day? I haven't been on Litsy in a while! 4mo
BarkingMadRead @Vansa yes! We are reading a chapter a day! I can add you to the tag list if you‘d like 4mo
Vansa Please add me! I'll catch up by this weekend. Which translation would you recommend? 4mo
BarkingMadRead @Vansa oh gosh, I have no idea! Maybe do a hashtag search of #hashtagbrigade and see what everyone has? I know there are a few different versions and some of the wording has been different, but I don‘t think it‘s been anything too crazy 4mo
SamAnne Catching up. The Bros aren‘t the most enticing Mexican beach read. 😂 But I like this chapter from the standpoint of what ends up happening in Russia. 3mo
