Mehso-so

Tepid historical fiction with unlikable characters in this fish-out-of-water novel. Three feckless and privileged young Americans travel to a village in the Scottish Highlands to find the Loch Ness monster. Because of the journey, Gruen‘s main character, Maddie Hyde, realizes what a monster her husband Ellis is and discovers her true self in this foreign land.

Nice creepy story about an island that is really alive. Addie who is staying on the island, during her mother and new stepfather's honeymoon, meets a guy who is not at all whom he seems 🏝

What a perfect book to read during the summer! It makes me want to watch Dirty Dancing on repeat and has a beautiful nostalgic feel to it of the bygone era of family resort vacations in the Catskills. Told in multiple viewpoints, this novel is the ups and downs of operating the last remaining resort in the Catskills and all of its complications. It‘s hilarious in parts with a sweet ending. Perfect choice for #SundayBuddyRead !

Itchyfeetreader Have been looking for a book set in a hotel / inn for booked 2022 and this is a 99p kindle special. Result!! (edited) 2y

So, how do you fancy a SURREAL experimental take on the queer working-class immigrant experience in Brexit Britain, set in a dead-end seaside hotel on the Isle of Wight? With reeboks and polar bears?

It‘s political and funny and angry and utterly out-there, and I enjoyed it, despite HUGE reservations going in. And it kind-of made sense too! Unexpected.

Having said all that, I have no idea who I‘d recommend this to!

Cinfhen Another FABULOUS review!!! Fun choice for #Booked2022 😃 2y
squirrelbrain Sounds *incredibly* weird! 2y

batsy Great review! I have them on my TBR because I've seen lots of praise, but I'm also intimidated/scared 😅 2y
rockpools @Cinfhen Thanks Cindy 😁. I was v chuffed to tick another #Booked2022 prompt! 2y
rockpools @squirrelbrain That would be a fair and accurate description! 2y
rockpools @batsy Go for it! I found it a lot less intimidating than I expected. And it is only 110 pages. The references they use, I don‘t think they actually expect anyone to have read/been aware of (which made it a lot easier for me)! I don‘t know how well it will translate for you not based in the UK - there is a LOT of tiny stuff that‘s very specific to here, that might be more of a problem than the way-out-weird stuff. 2y
Cathythoughts Great review 👍🏻♥️ 2y
batsy @rockpools Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind when I get to it. Sounds like it might be a bit of a Googley book for me :) 2y

33 of 2022. #Setinaninnlodgeorhotel #Booked2022
A group of strangers find themselves snowed in at a remote inn. One by one they start falling victim to a killer. The police are unable to make it to inn until the weather clears. They fight to survive and try to determine who the culprit is. Fast paced, quick read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5feet.of.fury Nice. I liked this one too! 3y

Ok, so I admit it. I am a ridiculous romantic. Maybe it‘s the eternal optimist in me, maybe it‘s because I have my own far-fetched, soppy, meet-cute and whirlwind love story so the novels don‘t feel unbelievable. Who knows? I just don‘t read much romance, just not my reading preference. But Emily Henry seems to be a winner for me. This ‘friend to lovers‘ story hooked me with the characters, and the past present storyline. Have to say, I loved it.

KarenUK Also needing some 🧠🍭right now! #pop22 going with the Brit interpretation of #setduringaholiday and also #booked2022 #setinaninnlodgeorhotel (edited) 3y
squirrelbrain I don‘t think I‘ve read any Emily Henry….maybe I should try sometime! 3y
Cinfhen This one worked for me too. A good blend of like-ability and believability 3y

This was my first time reading Sandition, and I really enjoyed it! I‘m leaving off at the point Jane Austen did right now to give myself some time to imagine where she might have taken this had she lived. Reading the last thing she wrote has made me interested in reading her works in order, which I‘ve never done. So I think once I make it back around to this again (maybe sometime next year?) I‘ll be ready to try a version someone else completed.

StayCurious I‘d be interested to read the books in order with you. Care for a mini buddy read? 3y
IndoorDame @StayCurious that sounds awesome! I was sort of thinking of starting when we finish this round of #pemberlitten books, but I‘m open… 3y
StayCurious We can start anytime you‘re comfortable- I‘m fine to wait😊 3y
IndoorDame @StayCurious yay! Do you want to read in the order she wrote them, or in their publication order? I‘m waffling about that… 3y
