Some obvious references to famous British tv chefs/shows (which you'd kind of expect from a fellow chef-turned-author!), but this enhanced the story for me.

The opening of this bk show the horror of the 1966 Aberfan tragedy through the eyes of young embalmer William. The story tells his life managing both his untold trauma, as well as a troubled childhood, his angelic voice as a chorister, the power of love +friendship. An incredibly moving story, sensitively told which left me bereft at the end. Such a sad piece of history.

TrishB That sounds 💔 2y
andrew61 @TrishB yes and I was just finishing it as they went to Aberfan on the news tonight about the impact on the Queen. Luckily I still have a glass left in my bottle to gather myself. Something lighter next I think. 2y
TrishB A much needed glass I bet! 2y

I enjoyed this book even though the story was a tad convoluted. So Chloe who has been in academic competition with Shara, gets kissed by her the day before she disappears. After that Chloe, Smith (Shara's boyfriend) & Rory (her neighbor) keep finding letters & clues to find her.

After We Were Stolen is compelling. Avery deals with some rough situations, but despite the heavy subject matter, it's fast paced and reads easily. If you prefer your beach reads to be something grittier than a kissing book, After We Were Stolen gets my vote.

I've known Brooke for about 30 years so I'm extremely proud of her achievement. It really is good. I'm also proud that I didn't cry like pageant mom during her reading.

Bk5 of June & #BigJuneReadathon & Bk2 of #JoysOfJune #readathon is done! After listening to some of Chamber Of Secrets, I picked up this recent addition & ended up reading it straight through🙌It wasn‘t the best horror/fantasy I‘ve ever read but it was compelling in its own way. The setting is what sold it I think, reminded me a lot of Crimson Peaks, the movie with Tom Hiddleston. 3.5⭐️ #BookspinBingo #Booked2022 #NewIn2022

Clwojick Way to go! 2y
Cinfhen Fabulous!! Glad your reading mojo is coming back 🤩 2y
Lizpixie @Clwojick thanks lovely! @Cinfhen believe me, I‘m so relieved. I was terrified it was going to be permanent. Not sure I could‘ve lived with that honestly. Still nowhere near back to normal but some improvement makes me hopeful🙏 2y
Andrew65 This is great news, well done 👏👏👏 2y

I really loved this book. I loved the intersectional feminism, and I‘m always a sucker for a book ghat pulls in progressive politics. Not my first book that incorporates the gentrification of Brooklyn (Pride by Ibi Zoboi!) but this felt like a true testimony. It pulls from current events and activism, and the sacrifices/choices that are sometimes made. Definitely recommend!

Sophronisba I loved this one, too. 2y
alisiakae @Sophronisba except for the mother. Couldn't stand her, and kind of wanted to reach through the book and slap her. 2y

The second book of comedian/ actress Laura Clery in which she discusses the turn her life has taken now that she is a mother. From accidental activism concerning public breastfeeding, her continued life of sobriety and more stories of when she was an addict, to her recent diagnosis of ADHD as well as the diagnosis of both her husband's and son's autism, nothing is off limits.

It was wonderful to visit the Scottish Highlands and the quirky village of Lochdubh. I swear I could tell that this was written by someone else, as especially the last few in the series were entertaining but not quite as polished. Beaton leaves behind a colorful series with Hamish, and Green does well bringing the village to life once again. Hamish is up to his eyeballs in murder again, and of course his love life comes to play yet again.

Cinfhen Well done 👍🏽💚 2y
Cinfhen Hope you‘re feeling well xx 2y

Librarybelle @Cinfhen Thank you! I‘m still not 100%, but all tests came back normal, so at least that‘s good. 2y
Cinfhen It‘s great that tests are “normal” but frustrating that you can‘t pinpoint diagnosis what‘s causing your symptoms 🥺 2y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen It‘s frustrating. The diet change I made has helped, so I‘m hoping it‘s just a slow process. Thank you for asking! ❤️ 2y
