Leftcoastzen When I was reading all the back & forth with the aunts , I‘m thinking why do they put up with them , especially Gregg . The Tullivers just seem more down to earth. Maggie is a wild one , no doubt. I‘m getting the feeling that Tom will be insufferable after a bit of education 🙄I‘m behind this week .Loving the book though. 10h

dabbe The house is decrepit in some areas, there's a scary lake and dark forest which makes Marian feel claustrophobic, a dog dies that was SHOT!, some of the servants are questionable ... we are not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy! Marian and Laura are away from ALL who care about them, especially the lawyer. They are now completely vulnerable and at the hands of #percypig and #countporkchop 😱 1mo

dabbe I am now way behind. I also count the pages before I start, and the one that had 30+ chapters just made me go 😳, and that's where I'm at. I don't read the poems, and now I'm skipping the PAGES UPON PAGES UPON PAGES of descriptions of mountains, blah blah, mountains, blah blah, #verdantverdure blah blah, #sublime blah blah ... Emily finally arrives at Udolpho like 250 pages in? 😴 5mo

mcctrish @dabbe I don‘t think anyone reads the poems, openers, ballads or whatever they are called😆 if they are supposed to tie in with the non-stop crying I sure as hell can‘t see it. The long chapters really do crush one‘s soul and its so easy to get behind. Just skip ahead - you have missed crying, fainting, the count was stabbed, macaroni is double dealing everyone, the aunt is a bitch, the trees are green, the castle is haunted. 5mo
