I requested this from the library after reading about it in a Book Riot newsletter. It opens with a quote from The Economist about the reappearance of the tradition of corpse brides in rural China. I enjoyed the art and the story, which incorporates a bit of the history with the modern story. #graphicnovel

This is a fabulously detailed book. I borrowed it from the library to peruse the pictures. Once I opened it,I reakized it was a serious study of the fashion of Jane Austen's time. I plan to borrow it again when I have more time to take a deep dive.

This is a MG graphic novel in translation. The author wrote it after devastating earthquakes struck Italy in 2016.It shows how a community comes together , and the many ways life gets turned on its head after natural disaster. I enjoyed the story of the three main friends, how they cope, and the illustrations. #MG #graphicnovel #translation

⚡⚡🌠⚡⚡ This book was 🔥 ! I would never normally read grimdark fantasy, and yet this was definitely my favorite fiction of the year. The world building, the snappy dialogue, the characters, the setting - all of it was phenomenal x a jillion. I originally borowed the book from the library, then I bought this copy for my oldest for his birthday. I hope he loves it! ❤️

rachelsbrittain Not my usual genre either but I agree-- I was obsessed 5y

Wow! It's been a year since I was last on Litsy. This was probably my slowest reading year in years. I'm not on track to reach my Goodreads goal, and it's the first year I haven't participated in the Read Harder Challenge. BUT, I still read a bunch a great books.

This cookbook I got my youngest for his birthday since he's a fan of the channel. There are a whole bunch of recipes I would never even attempt, but it's a fun read w/ great backstories

Q84 Glad to see you back! I too haven't read as many books as I had hoped but that's ok.😀 5y

I'm really enjoying this fantasy. It's not what I expected. The details are intriguing. It's a little bit steam punk. It's a little bit of alternate reality. I love how pelotons of cyclists speed through the roadways instead of vehicles. I like the take on magic. I like the twist on Fae lore. There's a slow burn m/m romantic element and a mystery too. #Busterandabook

This book is for anyone with a neurodiverse child. None of the information is new, but the second half of the book is laid out in a self-help style format, to help parents be their best for their kids. What I liked about the book is that it advocated helping atypical kids (no matter if that means dyslexic, ASD, ADHD, gifted or twice exceptional, etc.) to be their best selves, not try to change them. What often irks me about these books (below)

AmandaL Is that they are written by people who have a tremendous amount of privilege. The author did address this a bit, but not every parent has the resources to homeschool, hire private therapists, or even get the correct diagnosis for their child. Regardless, the book was very respectful toward neurodiverse children, and had tips anyone can implement to be a better, stronger, more helpful advocate for their child. 6y
Owlizabeth I have this on hold at the library. My boys have ASD and are both in their teens and doing really well, but I love to see new theories on parenting ND kids. 6y
AmandaL @Owlizabeth I'm interested to read what you think. I tend to 4 and 5 star all the books I read. The book is probably more helpful for parents of younger kids (my youngest with ADHD is almost a teen) but it has some good ideas. 6y

This version of Cinderella was not as terrifying as the version I listened to as a kid, where the step sisters cut off a toe and a heel to fit in the glass slipper, but the illustrations by Camille Rose Garcia are wonderfully creepy. This was the exact kind of book candy I was in the mood for. Did the lady protest too much? Yes, but it was a fun fantasy romance that I plowed through in two days. I liked that the world building was based on Greek mythology. I can't wait to dive into the next book.

I really enjoyed this book about traditional crafts. It's amazing the sustainable technologies people have created through the ages with locally available resources, and the amount of know-how that went into them. Unfortunately, that ingenuity is dying out as people rely on mass manufactured, cheaply made products. Although this book focused mostly on the U.K., it's message of the importance on supporting and promoting craft is universal. 👍👍

#Bookhaul The Camille Rose Garcia illustrated Cinderella I had to have when I saw it. The Dialogues just sounded cool, plus my youngest will read anything in comic format, so he won't even realize he's learning from MIT Press's first graphic novel. The Batman mints are for my husband. And the other two books are gifts for my kids. My suitcase will be noticeably more heavy on my trip home tomorrow. 📚

This was a great little graphic book with short biographies of cool ladies. Some if it is a little scandalous, all of it is really interesting. Many of the women I had never heard of before, so it was a neat surprise to see that one of the profiles was of a lady who was from the town next to where I grew up, and that she saved the most iconic building on our island. 👍👍

This was about new ways to think about economics. Rather than relying on GDP to gauge economic success, the author proposes looking at such factors as sustainability, quality of life and networks of interconnectivity to rethink economic success. My biggest beef is the ideal the author describes working toward is global communism, but she never calls it that. Interesting to read, and I think it's important to look at subjects from alternate POVs.
