My #FriendPick And #ReadBannedBooks for April.
Happy April everyone. Here is my #Roll100 for April. To be completely transparent, originally I had a different book for number 16, called First Bite. As all my role 100 this year, it was from the stuff your Kindle event. I didn‘t realize until i was adding it to my all my trackers that it was nine full books in one. Knowing that I would not get that done this month, possibly this year, I let Siri choose a new book for me.
4.4⭐️ I know there‘s a lot of back-and-forth on whether this book is good. It‘s definitely different, it is not an easy read, but I loved it. The characters were good, it gets me in my emotions, the world building is on point. I thought it was great. This is my last book of the month and the second #HometownBookClub read for March.
3.5⭐️ this took me almost 3 months to read. The horror aspect of the story was so good and had me enthralled, but the dark romance section had me disturbed. I never thought I would say this, but there was just too much bedroom time, and I use that loosely, when all I wanted was to get back to the murder and mayhem and ghost. Before picking it up, this is a step sibling romance that goes too far sometimes. #DoubleSpin for January #BookSpinbingo
I am feeling very ambitious with this month‘s #BookSpinBingo as I really hope to get the majority of these read. I‘m still behind on some of my reading, but I‘m much more caught up than I was the previous month. So here‘s to a great month of reading hopefully.
4.2⭐️ this book was so much better than I thought it was gonna be, especially considering it‘s YA. The reason I gave it a 4.2 is the endings sucked so bad. I know it was a cliffhanger to lead to book 2, but there was so many holes and unanswered question at the end. Did it work, absolutely because I‘m reading the next book this next month. #HomeTownBookClub
So I think this is the children‘s book… I think it‘s meant to teach children the alphabet. I think this because it goes through the alphabet by using the child‘s name. What makes me question it, is the fact that it proceeds to tell you the ghastly way that child died. Super dark for an alphabet book.
Anybody else read children‘s books when needing a pallet cleanser. I picked up a couple children‘s books last year as a way to catch up on my reading goal, but I realize that it help with my reading slumps as well. It‘s also been a challenge as I look specifically for books with a Gothic theme and some of the ones I found have been so fun. Boris and Bella was definitely my favorite out of the three, but they were all good.
I want to say I gave this book a fair chance, because I picked it up three times since February, but I couldn‘t make it past page 15. This is definitely a NOPE for me. On a positive note, I‘m getting my Kindle cleaned up from all those stuff your Kindle events I did last year. #Roll100 #82 from February.
3.2⭐️ I liked it… It was not bad, even with some of the content being kind of cringe. It was a cute second chance at love Trope that included shifters. The fact that the dragon shifters called themselves fable shifters, because they shifted into mythical creatures, was a little weird for me. I mean, how are you mythical if you exist, and dragons in this story EXISTED. This is my #Roll100 #74 and my last #Roll100 for March.
3.4 Did I love it, no. Did I hate it, absolutely not. Would I read it again… Yes, I would, because some of it was just so damn funny. This quote is not even my favorite quote, but it‘s the closest one that would fit on the page. Just imagine being abducted and held against your will by this hot guy, that wants to marry you, and everybody in town is cool with this. #51 of my #Roll100 for March, and only book I have decided to keep so far.
2⭐️ well its better than some of the other books that have been clogging up my kindle, though thats the best i can really say about it. It was super short so i got threw it quickly which means I was able to delete it faster leaving my kindle a little more organized. All in all, a win! This was my #BookSpin for March and my #9 #Roll100.
5⭐️ OMG, my poor heart. This book was my February #FriendsPicForMe read. If follows one woman struggling with the onset of dementia as she tries to figure out what happened to her friend who went missing 67 years ago. The timeline bounces from 1951 to 2018. Going through the FMC experience of not only forgetting, but also when her timelines start mixing together leaving her so confused. Thank you @Roary47 for this recommendation.
Honestly, I don‘t even want to rate this book because I really struggled with it. There is just something about this graphic novel just did not sit right with me. It felt too childish, which made it hard to connect with. Well, except for the fact that er loved David Bowie because shouldn‘t we all. #ReadBanedBooks for March.
2.8 better than I expected, but still not great. This is part of my #roll100 for February. This is an alien romance where the girls get kidnapped from their home planet by bad aliens, crashed into foreign planet, and meet the not bad sexy aliens. Sounds familiar, yep for me too. Yes, there was enough differences that it could‘ve made this book thrive on its own merit; however, it was not executed well.
3.2⭐️ Don‘t hate me, but I did not love it. Yet I cant say I hated it either because I appreciated a lot about it. It was effortlessly diverse, had fun moments, and it was an easy read. However, it was so hard to like many of the characters, it felt repetitive and it was to predictable. This was a recommendation for my #ReadBanedBooks challenge for February, and while its not my favorite reads, I‘m glad I read it. March #DoubleSpin #BookSpinBingo
While technically I am still working on both spins for February and one of my spins for January, it‘s not gonna stop me from trying to complete March as well. Luckily, I have one of these done already, and both of them are part of two other challenges. Which is not hard since most of the books on the spin are challenge books… Lol. #bookspinbingo
I know I‘m super late posting this, but I‘ve been struggling a bit. I first thought it was just being stuck in an awful book, see prior post, but it didn‘t go away after reading it. Im fine, I just think I needed a break from thinking. This month I‘ve been working on trying to catch up on my challenge reads, so thats what primary makes up this list. Wish me luck 🍀 #bookspinbingo
1.8⭐️ “ I do, I do, I do love dark academia.” But OMG, this book is so pretentious. Whats sad is I was really looking forward to this read. There were moments where I felt like I was starting to get into this book, and then it would have this long stretch of boring pretentious, BS. And then nothing, and I mean literally, just a bunch of words on a page leading nowhere, kind of nothing. Now I get to go relive this monstrosity w/ my Book Club.
I can‘t believe January is already over… the month just went by so fast. Here is my February TBR for #BookSpinBingo.
2.4⭐️ I wondered how I made it all the way through because it was just so cringe. And then there was a comment in there that basically said he‘s not a psychopath it‘s more like he has antisocial personality disorder. I was like what… It‘s the same damn thing. Basically ASPD was used to take away the negative views of people diagnosed as a psychopath and sociopath. Do your research author. Thank you stuff your Kindle day. #Roll100 book #62
5⭐️ I loved it! This book is banned because of its LGBTQ themes, but I think they were missing the bigger picture of the story. It‘s about being true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in. It‘s about facing persecution whether it‘s for gender, race or sexuality. It‘s about overcoming obstacles and learning that just because somebody has always been in your life doesn‘t mean they should be. #ReadBanedBooks
3.5⭐️ This book made me so angry. I hated the male protagonist. I got who the psychotic little shit was from chapter four, yet a doctor could not figure it out. And that fact that he was so dismissive of wife, who was “so amazing” before everything went down, was despicable. And that ending… way to leave your reader on red. This was my #FriendsPick for January
2.7⭐️ I am so glad that people enjoyed this book, I just was not one of them. This was supposed to be a Thriller and I wan not only, not thrilled, I was bored. There was also just so much going on in the book with the multiple POVs and all the multiple time lines. This was my #HomeTownBookClub pick for January.
3⭐️ but I think I‘m being a little generous. It‘s not that the book was bad, but it wasn‘t good either. It was very difficult to connect to any of the characters, and it just felt so unrealistic, which I know is a weird word for fiction novel. But even the spicy scenes felt forced, uncomfortable, crude, and like they just didn‘t fit the storyline. Anyways, this is my #Roll100 number 57.
4.5⭐️ holy hell, what a ride. Let‘s start with please check your trigger warnings. I get that it‘s a dark romance, but some of the “villains” scenes can be a little much. This is a dark romance/thriller book and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The only reason it doesn‘t have a higher score was because a lot of the spice took over some of the plot. Mind you I loved all the spice. I just could‘ve used some more backstory. #BookSpin #BookSpinBingo
And with that, I have my first DNF of the year. I tried for four days to get past 10 pages and I just cant with this book. Am I being completely fair, probably not. I just felt like it was holding me back from being able to read anything else. I knew that I was probably gonna DNF a lot of the free books I got during the stuff your Kindle event, so I‘m not overly disappointed. This was my number 96 for my #Roll100.
So here are the books for my January #ReadBannedBooks and my #FriendsPick challenge. I‘m excited to get the chance to experience books that have been banned for various reasons. But I think my favorite thing about this challenge is reading what my friends pick for me. All of them are so very different and I get to experience new styles of writing. Sometimes it even gets me out of my comfort zone, which I think is good.
Here‘s to a brand new year of #BookSpinBingo. I didn‘t get as many done last year as I wanted, but I had fun trying. Looking forward to what the new year brings.
So what‘s my worst book of the year… Honestly, it‘s kind of tied. Though, Eternally Hers really made me cringe, which is why it‘s the number one worst book of the year. But Grownup really sucked too. Obviously, I don‘t recommend any book that‘s on this list. Read at your own risk.
We listen and we don‘t judge! In my heart of hearts, I truly thought that Crescent City would‘ve been my #1. I LOVE that series. And Brom is one of my all-time favorite authors. So I sat and debated if I should push this book forward. But the simple fact is, it drew me in from the get-go and I finish the entire trilogy in three days. That might not sound like much, but I work 2 10 hour days at the same time. It won! It was MY best book this year.
So I decided to start the year off with a lot of spice… And yes, a lot of dark spice, but I‘m not mad at it. But it‘s not all spicy and I think I have a good mix to start this year off right. #BookSpinBingo #NewYearNewReads
Not the best picture, but I have been feeling very under the weather and just wanted to get this posted. I did receive my #JolabokaflodSwap24 and I‘m so thankful too @CSeydel for such a thoughtful gift. I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and here‘s to happy New Year‘s
Hello all… I am currently still looking for six banned book recommendations to complete this challenge setup for 2025. If you know any good banned books please post them below and I will choose the first six that I have not read.
My #JolabokaflodSwap24 package has been shipped out yesterday and should be arriving by Thursday. Always my favorite Christmas swap, thank you @MaleficentBookDragon for hosting it again. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
OK, I got a little carried away in the stuff my Kindle events… Cause this isn‘t even a quarter of the books I grabbed this year, and that‘s after deleting so many making this list. So my goal is to clean up my Kindle. Truth is, I am expecting a lot of DNF‘s in this list. But we never know until we try… So here we go, not in order, my #Roll100 for 2025. And yes, I know early, just trying to be on time rather than late this year.
Setting up my challenges for next year, and I‘ve decided to do 12 months of banned books instead of 12 months of classics for 2025. Send me your suggestions and I will choose the first 12 that I have not read. #ReadBannedBooks
4.9⭐️ I‘m a little tired so I‘m just gonna say this… I loved this trilogy so much. The action, suspense, romance, and spice were chefs kiss. I have never read Rina Kent before, but I will definitelybe reading more.
4.9⭐️ you know how I said yesterday that I may not read another book until I‘m done with this trilogy… Well there is no maybe. I can‘t put this trilogy down. It has so many twists and turns that I don‘t know what‘s happening, and the cliffhanger are killer. Is it spicy, absolutely… but the storyline far outweighs the spice. It is just so good.
4.9⭐️ should I be asleep because I have a long day at work tomorrow, yes! So why am I still awake… Because of this damn book. It had me in such a chokehold by the second half that I could not put it down. Do I have other books that I need to read, yes… Yes, I do. Will I be reading them, absolutely not. I will be going straight to book 2 and possibly finishing the trilogy before I start anything else.
Look, I‘m not saying it wasn‘t good, I‘m just saying it wasn‘t good for me. I was so bored I started skipping through chapters. Then I thought “if I‘m skipping most of the book, why am I even reading it“. DNF
