Murakami is my favorite author, so this review is a little biased! That being said, I loved this novel! It is magical realism at it‘s finest and Murakami does not disappoint with this book. His style of writing- it‘s simple words that form such detailed pictures in my mind. I can‘t get enough of his work! #PulitzerWorthy
This is my favorite book of the year thus far. It brings a human face to immigration. Told from the viewpoints of mother and son, I was drawn into both of the characters emotional worlds. Deming/Daniel has a fierce desire to belong that everyone can relate to.
My favorite books begin with a family tree. Salt Houses traces 4 generations of a displaced Palestinian family. Their daily lives are tempered by war. Sweeping, magnificent, and beautifully written. #7thBookof2018
While the writing was superb, I couldn't take the main character seriously. He was indignant about religion, his father, and a more experienced girl. He wasn't relatable. Also, I was troubled by the depiction of homosexuality.
This book of short stories by Ha Jin moved me. Ha's sparse prose tells the stories of lonely, disappointed Chinese immigrants in New York. Many of his stories are open-ended, but do not feel unfinished. I definitely want to read more of his work. #6thBookof2018
A book for book-lovers! This novel is adorable and cozy. Nina follows her dreams and finds love. I really enjoyed Colgan's descriptions of Scotland. I added it to my bucket list of vacations to take. #5thBookof2018
For fans of dystopian novels, this is a pick. It was entertaining, but in a disturbing way; A little too cult-ish for me. I did find Janey heroic in her rebellion and liked that the story was told through different girls. However, I did not like that the plot was advanced mainly through dialogue. #4thBookof2018
I stopped at my local library this morning. I ❤ the library!
I really enjoyed this love story, as it wasn't just a love story. It was an ode to growing old, to relationships; It was historically accurate, detailing Japanese internment. Isabel Allende writes beautifully and this novel is no exception. #ThirdBookof2018

Lincoln Rhyme is one of my favorite serial characters and he didn't disappoint in The Burial Hour! I love the plot twists and that the novel is set in Italy. #SecondBookof2018
Stay With Me is a compelling and intense novel about a Nigerian couple desperate to have a child. I really liked the way the narrative was split in time and in voice. I definitely recommend it! #Recommendsday #FirstBookof2018

A day late in the #ReindeerReads challenge! I don't read much #historicalfiction, but I really enjoy this series!
This book came highly recommended and, as an ABC (American-born Chinese,) I really wanted to like it. But, alas, I could only read 3 chapters before stopping. It was so vapid and disappointing. I will still see the movie, but have no interest in finishing the book or reading the other 2 in the series.
