“And when I need to work anything out, I turn to the blank page. There, no one can steal my pain or try to poison my knowing, and there I always have the final word in my own story.”
“I stop explaining myself, because I learn that making decisions is never about doing the right thing or the wrong thing. It‘s about doing the precise thing. The precise thing is always incredibly personal and often makes no sense to anyone else.”
I'm posting one book per day from the ever growing unread stacks in my personal library. No description or explanation, just books I own and plan to read. #tbr
Day 73 (Kindle edition)
I got about half way and just couldn‘t bring myself to finish. It was whiny, self-indulgent, privileged, and boring. Just ugh.
The author relates to struggles many women experience in this memoire. Occasionally beautiful/spiritual-drips white privilege. Her solutions to life‘s problems are running away to the ocean to watch sunsets, stay at a fancy hotel, do yoga class whenever. Be free of relational obligations whenever your emotions blow left or right. Also she takes no responsibility for choices that profoundly alter the course of her life. It‘s a giant blame game.

2021‘s first read and it was so touching 💙
Book 1: Abook that has a heart, diamond, club, or spade on the cover
I loved Untamed and I really like this one too. I think that a Glennon Doyle has tapped into the thoughts that most women are afraid to speak about (hence why she is so popular). I enjoy her honesty and willingness to speak her truths. She definitely makes me think about things I have not taken the time to reflect on. One more book for my bingo board, 16 points. #merryreaders #christmasgames2020 #bookspinbingo
I ended up loving this book! I wasn‘t sure it was for me in the beginning chapters but by the second half I was entranced and wanted to hear the end of the story. What a beautiful, touching, inspiring and empowering memoir. I highly recommend for women to read this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Finally, I was being quiet and still enough to hear the truth: You are not supposed to be happy all the time. Life hurts and it‘s hard. Not because you are doing it wrong, but because it hurts for everybody. Don‘t avoid the pain. You need it. It‘s meant for you. Be still with it, let it come, let it go, let it leave you with the fuel you‘ll burn to get your work done on this earth.” P. 203
There were some gems like this quote 👆🏻. But while it started off strong, it slowly morphed into self-indulgence, which screamed white privilege. I'm reminded of S1/13 of Friends where Roger rants:
“co-dependent, emotionally stunted, sitting your stupid coffeehouse with your stupid big cups . . . and you're all like 'Oh define me, define me. Love me. I need love.'”
That pretty much sums up my feelings about this book.
Full review on GR.
“The process of knowing and loving another person happens for me through conversation. I reveal something to help my friend understand me, she responds in a way that assured me she values my revelation, and then adds something to help me understand her. This back-and-forth is repeated again and again as we go deeper into each other‘s hearts, minds, pasts, and dreams. Eventually. A friendship is built— a solid, sheltering structure that exists p 94
“Just do the next right thing, one thing at a time.”
When the right book comes to you at the right time - that's what this book was for me. And at the Dollar Tree no less!
First day back to work after 4 weeks medical leave. Came home to amazing porch reading weather. How delightful!
Is this the same Glennon that wrote Untamed?? Honestly, after listening to Untamed, LW was hard to stomach. Her discomfort and unhappiness made Love Warrior a really unpleasant listen. If you didn‘t like this book, you may still want to try Untamed.
When she wrote LW, she was still on the journey to happiness and living honestly. In Untamed, she has truly found that place, and I‘m happy for her! #audiobook
What an amazing memoir!! It‘s like I was reading about myself through some of my difficult times .. like her brain thinks like me!! Just her thought process blew me away! I couldn‘t put it down and I am excited to move onto her next book “untamed”.
Not sure if everyone will like this but it‘s definitely one of my favs!!
Week 6 Update for #BFCr4:
🏋🏻♀️ Went to the gym 0/3 times.
🧘🏻♀️ Practiced yoga 3/3 times.
🍝 Exceeded my goal of home cooked meals.
📚 Read 1 book, bringing my total to 20/16. 🙌
Note on this book: I want every single one of my friends (men and women) to read this book. If you‘re reading this post, consider yourself a friend and then see if your local library has this on audio. It‘s fan-TAS-tic. ❤️
I probably shouldn't have read this book. I didn't really like her first one but was hopeful. Unfortunately our theology doesn't match, so I struggled listening to it.
Finished my second book which is tagged and got my steps in for the #bfc! Plan on getting my pushups in before bed. Goals met even if the movement was muddy from rain.
I‘m thankful for finding this community as it‘s challenged me to read more. I find myself choosing books over social media and that‘s a good thing. #TeamLitnFit 🔥
I‘ve always enjoyed Glennon‘s quotes but finally diving into her memoir. A fast read and overall enjoyable.
Not being known is a hurt that is unbearable. Finding one‘s authentic self is a mighty lofty goal!
I know my name now. Love Warrior. I came from Love and I am Love and I will return to Love. Love casts out fear.

Even though Doyle ultimately divorced her husband and has since remarried, that doesn‘t take away from the impact of this story. It‘s a powerful memoir of a woman choosing love over fear, choosing honesty and authenticity over pretending, choosing faith over doctrine, learning to listen and trust what is true for herself instead of continuing to believe the stories that are given to us by culture and religion. I couldn‘t stop listening.
I had a bit of a rocky start with this one because I had a hard time identifying and therefore feeling at all sympathetic towards Glennon and her life struggles. But the more I kept reading the more I was intrigued by her life and her way of dealing with the curveballs. She is brutally honest, which threw me off at first and then I came to really appreciate it. If you‘re a fan of memoirs then you should definitely pick up this book.
“Maybe, for now, the only right decision is to stop making decisions.”
“Grief is an eraser. I feel erased of everything but pain and fear.”
That moment when you need to bring 2 books to work because you will finish your current read before your daily commutes are done. Looking forward to diving into Love Warrior this afternoon!
Thank you Glennon for sharing your story! Your truth helps other heal.
An odd assortment to be sure, but some of the #redbooks I‘ve accumulated and still need to read!

Tonight‘s read which has been sitting in my stack of “to read” for a few months!
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand I found it empowering and on the other I found it self indulgent. Still, I respect the author and her willingness to be honest. Perhaps it's her raw honesty that makes me uncomfortable because I know that that's 'breaking the rules'.
Keep warrior-ing on Glennon.
Read her first book and loved it. Looking forward to this second one! I
Glennon Doyle Melton thought she had it all—a loving husband, three happy children, and a successful career. When she discovered that her husband was unfaithful, she went on a journey of self-discovery to heal the foundations of herself. She confronted her disconnection with her body and her struggles with alcohol and food to uncover her own strength.
I loved this and hated it in pretty equal measure. I‘d recommend it with a big grain of salt.
I just finished listening to this book and it is amazing 100% recommend. She‘s so relatable and raw and this book tugged so hard on my emotions. I am so glad I stumbled across it and read it #love #2018 #yearofbooks
The writing was exceptional in this book and the author is extremely brave for exposing herself in such an honest way. I found this book very inspirational and helpful in considering my own thoughts and patterns. I think this is important to read.
It‘s inspiring to read about someone hitting rock bottom and turning things around. We like to root for the underdog. I think most people see themselves as underdogs and maybe that‘s why we root for them. It‘s David and Goliath, and we‘re all David and Goliath is this thing we call life.
