The Vicious Vet
The Vicious Vet: An Agatha Raisin Mystery | M. C. Beaton
17 posts | 39 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
Beloved author M.C. Beaton has delighted readers and fans alike with her Agatha Raisin mysteries. Now here is the second novel in the series that started it all...The Vicious Vet. A PURR-FECT CRIME IN THE COTSWOLDS Former London PR agent, Agatha Raisin still hasn't adjusted to village life where the only prospect for a hot evening out is a meeting of the Ladies Society. And since her overtures toward James Laceythe retired military man next doorhave failed, Agatha jumps at the chance to visit the new vet, who's single and good-looking. Although Agatha's tabby hasn't a thing wrong with him, Hodge endures having a thermometer shoved up his bum in the name of romance. Unfortunately his sacrifice is all for naught when the vet is soon found dead next to a high-strung horse. The police call the vet's demise a freak accident, but Agatha convinces the hard-to-get James Lacey, who's also bored in the Cotswolds, that playing amateur detective might be fun. Unfortunately, just like curiosity killed the cat, Agatha's inept snooping is soon a motivation for murder...

Finished listening to the second Agatha Raisin book. This was another fun read for #CozyintheSun Moving to the Cotswolds hasn‘t been relaxing for Agatha, who keeps getting caught up in mysterious deaths!

Librarybelle Great! 8mo
ferskner You're going strong on Agatha! 8mo
MallenNC @ferskner Thanks to my library‘s audiobook collection! I‘m switching over to a Hannah Swenson mystery now. I‘ve only read one of those. 8mo
ferskner Those are fun too! I love them for road trips. 8mo

Another wonderful story in the world of Agatha Raisin!
With a second new love interest to the mix, Agatha is torn. But when the new vet is killed in the stables she is left to discover who the murderer is!

I love the close calls Agatha Raisin has when she is detecting, adds a tension to the stories that entices you to turn the page. ☺

Nute I love that these books remind you of a childhood memory with your Grandmother.💕Every time I see a crossword puzzle, I am reminded of my Grandmother. She was always working on a crossword puzzle and trusting that one of her grandchildren would know a five-letter word for this or a seven-letter word for that.🙂 5mo
Clutterbucks_Queen Haha, yes my grandmother used to ask me for crossword answers too! Along with certain books, there are certain smells that remind me of her too! Some things just wont ever be forgotten! X 5mo

Oh Agatha you are so cantankerous, but you're growing on me. Read this in one sitting and I think I'll continue with the series :) #cozymysteries

Book 2 in the series and enjoyed it as much as the first book, I don't read many cozy mysteries but this is a great entry point for me. Looking forward to reading more. How Agatha ends up with a second cat is so funny

Lizpixie This series is next on my list! 3y

Fun read. Be prepared for parts of the story to feel very dated.

I read this entire book last night in one sitting. Haven't done that in a while! This second Agatha mystery was satisfying not only in the fact that that horrible vet was killed, but that we see things from James Lacey's view as well. Waiting until tomorrow for the next few books is going to be torture!

[DELETED] 2232195534 That Agatha Raisin - she is quite the character! 3y
LauraBrook @kaysreadinglife She really is! I'm so glad she has two cats too! 3y

I liked the first book in the series, but I found the character of Agatha Raisin too grating to enjoy this book fully. Pretty common reaction, from what I understand. I may continue the series, but not for awhile. I need some time to get over Agatha.

If you like Agatha Christie mysteries then I recommend M.C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth mysteries. The Agatha Raisin mysteries are okay but not quite as good. They are a little silly, but quite entertaining. Perfect for a rainy day. B-
