This has been on my shelf for 5 years. I‘m so glad I finally read it. Ludwig did a fantastic job developing these characters & showing how they all were affected by autism. I felt love, frustration, hope, happiness, anger & so much more reading this. This story was wonderfully crafted.

I‘m so thankful @PuddleJumper puts these out early. I was about to start 2 of these for other prompts. I‘ve pushed them to April & have moved on to other reads.

One of my favourite books so far this year. I love reading books where the narrator is a child. Benjamin Ludwig did an amazing job exploring the world, logic, emotion and social dynamics from the point of view of an autistic child navigating difficult and confusing circumstances. A real page turner.

I enjoyed gaining insight into a person with special needs and the impact that makes on everyone. My heart went out to Ginny who was just trying to navigate a world that for many times didn't make sense.

I appreciated the author's approach in using the inner voice of Ginny, an autistic girl who loves structure-rules, numbers, precision in language. She likes “exactly“ not “approximately.“ We can hear what/how she hears words. The format allows us to better understand the disparities that exist between what she hears & how she thinks/reacts. My heart broke repeatedly as I read. Very appreciative of the awareness it brings to autism, abuse, etc...

“I don't want to answer so I wait. Because sometimes if you don't answer then someone will answer for you or someone will say something else to help you know what to say.”

Oscar Meyer has decided that I‘ve done enough studying for now, and that it‘s time for pets and snuggles. I‘m about 75% through this audiobook, and I‘m absolutely loving it, even though it‘s completely heartbreaking. 😢

Pulling double duty on this post. I wished I‘d liked this book more, but I just couldn‘t connect with Ginny. We‘ll see if the book club agrees with me at the meeting tonight.

This book was hard for me, but I absolutely loved it.
It made me feel more patient and forgiving with my own children. A story of misunderstanding and redemption that I couldn‘t put down.

For the most part, I liked this book. It was interesting to read about the dynamics between foster parents and their adopted daughter as they struggle to deal with a teenager who has autism. However, it bothered me that almost none of the adults in this book seemed to really understand that you can't treat a child with autism like any other kid because they don't understand and cope with things in the same way.

This was a mixed bag for me. Ginny is an obvious unreliable narrator which drives the events forward. Described as being in the same vein as Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Ludwig is just as convincing a writer as Haddon. Why I can't give it a higher rating is that is was just plain depressing and sad. I do know that others will love this book, and it would be an excellent choice for a book club.

Ginny, you stole my heart and you still haven‘t given it back. 😩 I absolutely loved this book. Ginny is autistic with learning disabilities, & the story is told from her perspective. Ginny is in her Forever home, but something needs Ginny and in order to get it she needs to go back to her abusive home, even if it means getting kidnapped to do so. Both heartwarming and heartbreaking, you will be hugging your book when it‘s over.

Such a good book! It follows Ginny, a fourteen yr old girl who is autistic. She‘s living with her adopted parents but constantly worries about her Baby Doll that she left at her birth moms apartment when the police took her away five years ago. It‘s told from her perspective.

So for anyone who has read this I just got to the part about Baby Doll and OMG what the heck??!?!! Ginny and Crystal with a C are on the run again. Really enjoying this so far.

Ok. This book is giving me 2,496 feelings all at once! I am pissed (forever mom WTF!!!) and heartbroken.
I know people who have children with autism but I personally do not. This (so far) book is a wonderful view into the life of a 14 yr old with autism and her adoptive family. #mtTBR

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Told from the perspective of Ginny Moon, an autistic 13 year old girl. She is living with her adoptive, forever family and is trying to to get back to her birth mom and her “Baby Doll”. The journey leads her through some challenging times as she discovers her true home and family. Frustrating in parts and towards the end I found myself anxious about how the book would end. Would love to know about what happens next with Ginny.

Absolutely loved this book!!! I can't remember the last time I was so emotionally invested in a character! Highly recommend this one!

This was a random pick and started off oddly but now I‘m hooked!

Just started this yesterday - it‘s fascinating, and sad, and I can‘t put it down!

Reminded me of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, though I didn't fall in love with the protagonist quite as much as I did w/Eleanor. Still, really eloquently realized characters with all their flaws and human kindness. Did the audiobook version and thought the narrator was perfect. Four stars.

An incredible story told by an incredible character. This book stuck with me long after I was done with it. A great read from start to finish. Highly, highly recommend!

A pick, with some reservations. This was a very uncomfortable novel for me. Maybe that shows how good it was....nothing is black and white here. Everyone is shades of grey, except maybe Patrice. I almost couldn‘t finish it even 90% through because I wasn‘t sure I could bear what was going to happen to Ginny.

THIS BOOK! #ginnymoon was absolutely riveting. It‘s one of the most intense novels I‘ve ever read, and one of the most endearing. So glad I picked it up on the @diversebooksclub recommendation! On my favorites of the year list, for sure ⭐️

This week: I read two selections for November‘s #diversebooksclub on Instagram. Enjoyed both of them but Ginny Moon was especially interesting. The other picture is from this morning‘s 5k run for men‘s health!
