This book was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. Emotional, sad, insightful and funny in parts. Great read!

I‘ve read a few books lately - Bearmouth by Liz Hyder and Christmas is Murder by Val McDermid, the first I liked and the second not so much, but this one, The Cows, is worthy of note because it‘s the first book I read on my new kindle!! It was a great book about women with a part that made me properly gasp! The writing style is chatty which I like so I‘ll definitely be heading for So Lucky soon!!
I was surprised by how much I actually got into this book, I'm a crime thriller mystery lover, but decided to give other genres a try.. This was a good one to start with & looking forward to reading more of this type.. 😊
I really enjoyed this book and I was surprised. A friend recommended it to me a few months ago and I wasn‘t excited by it. Three slightly cliched ladies‘ lives entwine in a mostly predictable way. It had me laughing, crying and at some points I was dumbstruck!
Read this book if you‘ve ever felt pigeonholed by society into behaving in a certain way. It‘s loads better than you think it‘s going to be
Another great read. This is based on 3 main female characters and how their lives intertwined. I didn‘t expect the twist at the end and it kept me reading and reading until the end.
One of my favourite reads of the year - I picked this book up on a whim and was pretty instantly addicted to it - had me properly laughing out loud and yelling at the characters (sometimes in agreement, sometimes nooooo!)

There were parts I enjoyed and I wanted to keep reading to see what happened. While I liked that they weren‘t your stereotypical female characters I also found sections of the story to be far fetched and thought the ending was a bit ridiculous. I was expecting to find it funny but for the most part I found myself cringing rather than laughing. It seems to get rave reviews so I‘m wondering if it‘s only me that wasn‘t completely blown away by it?
This was not what I expected. I‘d hoped for something fresh and funny (love the author on Instagram) but I found the characters to be stereotypes and the writing full of cliches. The storyline was bizarre. Also every other sentence seemed to end with ?, whether a question or not. Even the old people were talking upspeak. Mostly I was 😤. Overall too #chicklit for me. But still I‘ve not gone for a pan because I actually couldn‘t put it down 😳
Hey Littens!
It‘s been a whiiiiile!
I‘ve deactivated my social media apart from Litsy. It‘s not good for my mental health, but I always feel the love here! I think this is such a supportive and kind place 😊 currently reading The Cows. Is my first Dawn O‘Porter book and I‘ve heard great things so far!
Very much torn between pick and so-so for this. It was an excellently easy read and I looked forward to reengaging each time I had to stop, but I found a few parts a little bit repetitive and the last chapters felt strange. I‘m interested to see what else she has done and what others thought. #holidayread
Very interesting! Life seen from the point of view of 3 different women, arguing that whilst their choices might be different, they are no more or less valid.
Little book haul for me and the kids. The Cows has been on my wish list for ages. I dithered about The Immortalists for ages as I‘ve seen mixed reviews but the Waterstones book seller persuaded me!
I really wanted to love this book because I‘ve always liked the author‘s work on tv and in magazines, but for me the tone was really strange. I expected a positive look at female friendship and feminism and for me this wasn‘t that. There were some good parts but overall I had too many problems with it to really enjoy it sadly. ⠀
My full review is up on my blog now!

Woah, what a ride! The Cows is a hugely entertaining read and no doubt! It manages a rare feat of addressing serious and relevant issues AND being enormous fun. The writing is fresh, light, easy ... and can knock you flat with a nicely timed twist. The characters are just a delight and the plot has it all - tragedy, humour, desperation, hope, romance, an "incident" on a train .... I laughed, cried, cringed, gasped and related. Good stuff.
When I first found out the Kindle Paperwhite had a reading time remaining function I literally threw my money at Amazon - I had to have one! But it rapidly became the bane of my life. I do this ridiculous thing where I try to beat it!!! Yes, even though it adjusts to my reading speed & 'beating' it is impossible.
Seriously, it drives me nuts. I could turn it off I suppose, but where's the fun in that?! 😉🤣🤔😁

Friday night tipple ... very nice indeed.
Friday night burn - Yankee Candle Black Plum Blossom. Gorgeous fragrance but my large jar is tunnelling badly. 😤
Friday night read - The Cows. Loving it at the half way point.
So how's your Friday night?
P.S. I'm a UK Litten. Apologies if it's not Friday night where you are 😉
Looking forward to starting this one when the whirlwind that is my child finally surrenders to sleep. Did anyone else not have a clue what the cover photo was? I was staring at it for ages before it 'clicked'!

@erinreads I don‘t have a cat but if you‘re looking for something fluffy to make you smile, this guy might do the trick. He was hanging out at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont.

4/5 stars. I really enjoyed The Cows. It was (kind of) recommended to me from HarperCollins New Zealand and I'd heard really good things about it and it definitely lived up to the recommendations.
It covers friendship, abortions, feminism, the expectations put on women, the right to choose to even have children and so much more. I couldn't put it down.
