Many of us loved Anthony Bourdain. If you love food and travel, this book is for you, as is any eater memoir. This book and its photographs reminded me of my early days in the kitchen, when a monthly subscription of Gourmet magazine taught me how to cook. There are so many places to see, peoplx to meet, and foods to taste in the world. Let this book inspire you to do it.

But no matter how well you plan and research, things will go wrong. The place you end up will not be the way you imagined or hoped it would be. Your local guide will disappoint. The restaurant you heard about will have moved, or changed hands, or burned down. Be prepared to move to Plan B. Even if there is no Plan B. Travel is an amazing privilege and life is short. If you‘re not enjoying the zoo, abort mission midstream and try something ⬇️

JenniferEgnor else. Be impulsive. Happy accidents, those perfect meals and experiences, happen only to those bold enough to let them happen. You can‘t find the perfect meal. It finds you. ⬇️ 5mo

The heat and dust and smells of India either capture your heart—or repel you. But the colors—the saris, the spices, the fields and sky, rivers and lakes, the mountains and deserts—they stay with you forever.

Another Bourdain deep dive - my sixth this year! This one is a collection of photo essays documenting the first two/three seasons of No Res. Looking back, it was a really pivotal time in the direction of his TV career. They still had a lean crew and no special lighting/sound more like Cook‘s Tour, but he was also starting to make the interesting thematic and creative choices that would be a hallmark of Parts Unknown. Plus Beirut is included iykyk.

TheBookHippie I‘ve read all his books to date I still am devastated by his loss… also not a fan of the last partner he had… 😵‍💫 7mo
Megabooks @TheBookHippie I have not read his fiction nor the first two of his graphic novels, and yes, I agree very missed!! Asia was a horrible person to him, but outside of marrying Ottavia, he didn‘t always make good personal choices. In Roadrunner, someone said O was a blip whereas A seemed more on his normal trajectory. Very unfortunate!!!! 😓 7mo
TheBookHippie @Megabooks It‘s so very sad. 7mo

#Booked2020 #Summer #ArmchairTravel

I‘ve been a fan of Bourdain‘s since “Kitchen Confidential.” Of course, he is most definitely a figure whom one loves or hates. I think at the end he had mostly come about enough to get rid of some of his earlier, snarkier, and just downright mean behavior. I don‘t know. I only know that I loved him and was truly heartbroken when he died. Perhaps it has more to do with the manner of his death.... Anyway, none ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ (cont) of this really matters. This book is simply a kind of tangible, coffee-table styled record of Bourdain‘s experiences and travels that occurred during the filming of the titular Travel channel show. It‘s great, in my opinion, but then, I think everything he does is great. The stories are better even than the pictures; however, I don‘t think Bourdain‘s would agree with me on that. But how nice to have big, fat, coffee-table book ⬇️ (edited) 4y
gradcat ⬆️ (cont) that actually features loads of interesting tales. 👩🏻‍🎓🐱♥️ (edited) 4y

Prairiegirl_reading I really miss him. Parts Unknown was such a great show. My husband and I used to watch it together all the time. ❤️ 4y
gradcat @Cinfhen Thanks for stopping by and leaving drops of kindness to help me through my day...kisses! ♥️ 4y
gradcat @Prairiegirl_reading You know, I cannot—for the life of me—figure out why I get so emotional whenever his name comes up, or I spy a bit of one of his shows, or even when I‘m watching Top Chef...his suicide really got to me, and—weirder still—I feel like I miss him personally. Am I strange, or what? I promise you I never, ever even met him...so I‘m not some weird stalker or obsessive!! 😂😂😂 Anyway, he is very missed by me. ♥️ 4y
Prairiegirl_reading @gradcat I feel like that too! I think it was because he was so genuine. I never thought he was putting on an act, on his show or top chef or any show he was on. 😄 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I want to start binging some of his shows ... he did have this prickly but genuine personality that was just ALL him. So many of us miss him! 4y
gradcat @Prairiegirl_reading I think you‘ve hit the nail on the head. I think he never said anything he didn‘t genuinely feel—so transparent in that way. ♥️ 4y
gradcat @BarbaraTheBibliophage I love his shows! ♥️ 4y

5 stars. This book was a trip down memory lane. I remembered a lot of the episodes while reading this very picturesque book. He writes til the very last page with wit and humor. Im still very sad a great man like him is gone, but his memories will last forever. RIP Mr. Bourdain.

A little reading before bed. My coworker found this gem for me about a month ago and in the wake of Anthony Bourdain‘s death, I find myself pouring over it again and again. I‘m also reading A Cooks Tour on the kindle.

Currently watching while I draw and quite sad this is being taken off Netflix soon.

Quite sad in general, honestly.

Samplergal The shows the are airing are so personal. Some of the statements he has made are so sad, as in referring to his daughter, his addiction, and life being good.💔 #demons 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Know what? I‘m on my own this weekend, haven‘t had dinner, and already told my friend I‘d stop by her restaurant in the next few days. I‘m going NOW. Already ready, but waiting until their dinner rush calms down. Thanks for the nudge! 😍 6y

“When someone feeds you, they‘re saying something, they are telling you something about themselves.”

This news broke my heart today. I admire Anthony Bourdain so much for his writing and cooking and his ability to connect with people. He has changed not only how I travel, but how I think of myself and my work in the food service industry.

We‘ll miss you, Tony.

The crushing news of another amazing and wonderful life lost to suicide is gut-wrenching for me. I can honestly say my life was made more complete by the work this man did on the planet. He was grumpy and passionate and a complicated humanitarian. #RIP #AnthonyBourdain

BlameJennyJane @peacegypsy @samplergal and @mrozzz it really hit me hard today. Thank you for sharing your sentiments. I‘m not someone who gets into celebrity stuff at all, but this guy matters to me. It‘s an odd feeling and knowing others get that is wonderful. 6y
Samplergal @BlameJennyJane I had a difficult time sleeping last night thinking about it. CNN has a special tonight about some of the highlights of his career. Bring the tissues. He mattered to many of us. Not for food. Not for travel. For his humanity. 6y
BlameJennyJane @Samplergal I watched Anderson Cooper and Cuomo but was already too upset to watch the special so I recorded it and will watch later. And I see Parts Unknown is marathoning tonight. ❤️ 6y

“Maybe that‘s enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom is...realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.” — A. Bourdain. **Saddened to hear about the loss of this brilliant human and writer. No Reservations was one of the first biographies I ever read and made me realize that I actually liked bios! Or maybe I just liked Bourdain‘s dry humor. RIP

Anthony Bourdain‘s tv show No Reservations helped me through a very isolating time in my life and made me excited for the future for when I could start having my own travel adventures and try unique, delicious foods. He was such a talented writer too, and I‘d recommend getting his books on audio bc his narration is superb. Honestly, I‘m not taking this news very well. I hope Anthony‘s at peace, but wish he was still here. Be kind to each other.

That-Bookish-Hiker I don‘t generally pay attention to celebrity deaths but this one hurts. Its Alan Rickman all over again for me. ☹️ 6y

It has been a long week for me, between my husband being out of town and me starting a new job.

I also read this book, which reinforced my decision to take a part time job in a kitchen doing mostly prep work. It pays badly, the people are crazy (in the best way) and the hours suck, but people who provide food for others are my people.

I haven‘t forgotten my giveaway promise, I‘ve just been too caught up in life-I will post it soon!
