After being badly injured in the car wreck that killed her mom, Jess is sent to live with the father she barely knows in the far north of Canada. When the unthinkable happens, she has to figure out how to survive the wilderness. Great, quick read with lots of tension.
3.75/5 stars. Reading it with my students and it‘s been a hit but some chapters are a little bland.
🎉55th book of the year = reading goal met!🎉 This was a neat little survival story, with some thriller undertones, and a pretty quick read. The protagonist, Jess, garners sympathy from the beginning, and kept me invested even though the initial pace was a bit slow.
This book has all the suspense! After a car accident that left her mom dead & herself injured, Jess is sent to live with her father in the extreme northern wilderness. She barely knows him & doesn't want to be there. But after he dies, leaving her stranded, disabled, & alone, with the harsh winter coming, Jess is forced to fend for her own survival - or die trying. I really enjoyed most, but not all, of this book. Worth a read but brace yourself.
I just noticed that I haven‘t posted in a couple of months...this semester I took on 5 classes and though I‘m an education major with an emphasis on 7-12 English, I don‘t have any time for reading (for fun). I have 3 1/2 weeks left and then I‘ll enjoy my month off before starting the madness over again! I just wanted to check in and let ya‘ll know I‘m still kicking...In case anyone was curious...😊😊😊
Don't get me wrong, this is a great book with an amazing plot and engaging storyline. However, it's not for me. I found that I was constantly bored with all the survival elements, and wished the story was more engaging with the character's past. Which is why I rate it a 5/10. Personally not for me, but I would recommend to people who like survival stories, and enjoy violence as well as nature.
“I am still alive. I am here. I am trying. That is enough.” - Jess Cooper (I Am Still Alive).
This was by far one of my favorite books. One thing I really loved about this book was the survival plot it was amazing to see Jess overcome so many challenges that got thrown at her. Another thing I liked about the book was the search for revenge I really think that it made the book ten times better. I recommend this book for young adults who want a addicting and suspenseful read.
Between a Pick and a So-So. MY RATING⇢ 3¾ STARS
At its heart, this is a survival story, but it also has a subplot consisting of revenge. The narration by Amy McFadden is excellent, and I definitely recommend this in Audio format.

Last week‘s reading did not go as planned, but I enjoyed it. I finished 2 in progress books and 2 random books to discuss with students. I also tried and returned Trick Mirror, just not in the mood for essays at the moment.

@Patchshank I mailed the next #LMPBC book this morning. It should be there Wednesday. I also learned that you can mail baby chicks through the mail. Three sounded so cute!
I‘m considering bailing. I really like the story, and the audio is good. But....I really like the dog and I have a bad feeling. I don‘t know anything, so this isn‘t a spoiler, just anxiety. Should I keep reading???
I don't want to say too much because this is my #LMPBC book and I don't want to get anything about. But it was so good. It was intense and heartbreaking. It had me on the edge of my seat almost the whole time. Great pick Erika! Can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks of it!
Time to spend this Sunday afternoon with the next book in this round of the #LMPBC! It sounds so good!
@Lovesbooks87 you have a set of books heading your way! So sorry for the delay in returning yours to you! 🙃 #LMPBC
I‘m alone. I don‘t have much food. The temperature is dropping. No one is coming for me. #survival #Canada #familyhistory
Marshall‘s thrilling tale is also a deeply moving story about coming to terms with imperfections (both in oneself and in others) and about finding true resourcefulness and inner strength.
Cup of coffee, a new book, and a half day at work. This is going to be a great afternoon!
A novel that has spirit, I Am Still Alive shows the struggle of one girl and her determination to survive. With the very real threats of nature closing in around her, Jess finds her will to live in the possibility of revenge against the people who stranded her in the wilderness.
Lunch break! Enjoying some luxury while reading about survival suffering. #ARC
