I like the premise of a weird family accident prone just for a month per year, and the characters are likeable but the explanations are too déjà vus for me

Decided to bail on my last recommendation from #MyTBR from book riot. I just couldn‘t do angsty YA.
This book has an interesting premise, but I can‘t do contemporary YA right now.
I was a little annoyed all my recs fell under the YA category when I thought I was pretty specific I didn‘t like YA. I made to sure to be even more specific in my feedback. So we‘ll see what happens next quarter.
After a long hiatus, I‘m happy to be back here on Litsy. I look forward to catching up with everyone! This was a fun book to read in October. Some mystery, some paranormal stuff. There were some loose ends with the plot, but enjoyable overall. 3⭐️
A weird, yet addictive book. A fairly quick read especially since at times I couldn't put it down. The writing was beautiful and it helped hide yet highlight some of the more difficult topics that eventually came up. I can see how this book might not be for everyone but I find myself intrigued to check out more of this author's work.
This book has been sitting on my shelf for what seems like forever. I am finally going to give it a shot.
A beautifully haunting, elegantly creepy and deliciously unsettling story.
Moira Fowley-Doyle has crafted a richly atmospheric setting blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, creating a perfect level of dark and whimsy. The rhythm and cadence of the lyrical prose is eerily hypnotic, almost sad, setting an enchantingly chilling tone that fills you with a sense of dread. Entrancing and addictive read.
Another 5-star read for me! I have read all three books by Moira Fowler-Doyle, and I found myself completely immersed each time. The characters are interesting, there are multiple twists (some I see coming, some I don‘t), and I love the magical realism. I hope to read more by this author.
Week 1 Update for #BFCr4:
🏋🏻♀️ Went to the gym 1/3 times. However, I did do three short hikes while visiting family in Blowing Rock, NC, so I feel like I hit this.
🧘🏻♀️ Practiced yoga 1/3 times. Missed one of my classes due to family trip mentioned above.
🍝 Ate more than my goal of home cooked meals!
📚 Read 7/16 books! The tagged book was a pretty good gothic YA - perfect for October.
I enjoyed this one, I was drawn in by the characters and the spooky atmosphere. Definitely trigger warnings for sexual abuse and suicide.
It feels boring and a little too slow paced for me.
1. The accident season
2. Just some reading
3. Sometimes
4. Paige probably.
5. Ok

She seems to be #fallingslowly - another unread book on my kindle 😮 surprise...

Some seasons on my kindle 😁not read any!
I really didn't like this book. The writing was weird and it was so hard for be to get into. Maybe someday I'll try reading it again.
This book was beautifully haunting with a touch of magic. I was creeped out and actually scared to be reading it at night alone. I will for sure be on the lookout 👀 for her other book.
So, I accidentally let my Ruined audiobook expire on Overdrive! 😱 And now someone‘s checked it out! So, now I‘m listening to The Accident Season and loving it! The Irish narrator is lovely to listen to and really sets the tone for the story! Still on the fence about audiobooks, and still prefer to read an actual book, but with narrators like this one I may become an audio devotee! #audiolaundry #funfun

This. Book. Is. Amazing. I couldn't put it down, it's equal parts mystery and thriller and YA with some magical realism thrown in. It also has some truly amazing twists. I can't recommend this Irish author highly enough!
Just started this-I love the author‘s writing style. #currentlyreading
This book is eerie and mystical and wonderful. I would love to see a movie adaptation but I don't know that it could truly do this book justice! I'll have to get my hands on the audiobook because I think this is really the kind of story that gets even better when it's read to you. I definitely recommend this, especially if you're interested in magical realism.

Some seasons on my kindle 😁
People should remember the love all year round ❤️
Let's see if this will cure what ails me (Monday + low-level cold, I think).
Book 99. I absolutely loved this book. It‘s really hard to describe but it‘s magic, pure magic and mystery and just gorgeous.
“So let‘s raise our glasses to the accident season,
To the river beneath us where we sink our souls,
To the bruises and secrets, to the ghosts in the ceiling,
One more drink for the watery road.”
Man, I absolutely love Moira's writing! I'm so disappointed that I've read the only two books she has published. I'm not a big fan of magic realism or contemporary but the writing is just so good and the characters are flawed and diverse either in race or sexual orientation.
This was a bit more of a "wtf" book than Spellbook of the Lost and Found but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm a sucker for books set in Ireland and with magic apparently.
I absolutely adored Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moira Fowley-Doyle so I'm super excited to start this.
This book has some beautiful and eerie quotes in it and I thought the premise was really interesting. The execution was a little off. This book was a mess. There is a mixture of reality and fantasy and I'm still not 100% how much of which was which. There was a lot of kissing and strange relationships. The "surprise" ending was a bit of a let down and didn't answer very many questions. I am still confused!
This was a quick read! I loved the mix of fantasy with a dark family twist.
Ok so I'm on page 132 and I'm going to have to put it down. It not that I dont like it it's just that I feel like it's just not the right time for his book. This one feels more like a Halloween type story. So I'm gonna hold off on it until October.
This book is turning out to be wayyy more interesting than I thought it would be! And the narrator's accent.. 😍😍! I could listen to Irish people talk for dayys!
This one is up next. Got it from my secret Santa @TirzahPrice super excited to start
I really liked We Were Liars. This is the second book I've read that has said 'for fans of We Were Liars'. Only to be disappointed.
Ahhhh....Saturday afternoon. Grey & cold outside. Warm & booky in here 😊
Amazing! I put this on hold at the library for Halloween and just got it now 😉😀
The almost-incest-but-not-technically-incest-so-we're-good thing was the creepiest part of this book
Starts the Day With a cup of Tea and a good book.
I wish you all a great weekend.

Just when I was trying to decided what to read next. Today's book mail is a perfect Halloween read! Heard great things about this book! 🍁🍂🎃☠⚰
Got a little time to read while my paint was drying 😊 And of course when I'm sitting down Cam is immediately on my lap 😸 This is the perfect chilly day fall book, a little eerie but not too scary, which is just the right amount for me.
“There‘s this magical place,” he says with mock solemnity, “called a library—I don‘t know if you‘ve ever heard of it, but they have books, and also newspapers, and back issues of newspapers . . .”
"I know that his sudden interest in me is fleeting; that he has probably already been out with all the pretty, popular girls and I am what's left over, now that he's noticed I exist. But he has noticed I exist. And that's enough for now."
Seems to be an appropriate read for October since the accident season for Cara and her family is October. Here's to hoping I don't jinks myself!
There were a couple unanswered questions that made this be a "so-so" for me. But overall it was a fun YA read playing on the changeling folklore. It's right up my alley with the weird & magical stuff. There's one month where Cara and her family are incredibly accident prone. It might be one of the worst years yet and Cara will learn the hard way the history of the accident season.
