Master and Apprentice is a great character study, though I wouldn't put it in my top ten favorite Star Wars novels. The secondary characters are good and the conclusion is satisfying, but the action is a bit sparse.

This book is a great companion to Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, which is about Yoda trying to bring Count Dooku back to the light. Gray parallels Qui-Gon's training of Obi-wan with Qui-Gon's own training under Dooku.
The audiobook has legit sound effects and the narrator does very good Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor impressions.
My first Star Wars novel did not disappoint!!
This is one of my favorite Star Wars books. I love teenage Obi-Wan & how straight laced he is. This is also when Qui-Gon gets fascinated with the prophecy that will lead to Anakin. Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan are sent to Pijal to help Averross find the Opposition so they don't interfere with Princess Franry's coronation 💙

I‘ve taken a break from reading, but lately I‘ve been in the mood to read some Star Wars/ YA Fantasy #StarWars #MasterAndApprentice #ClaudiaGray
Really good book by Claudia Gray.
This book delves into the troubled relationship between one of the most famous master and Padawan pairs in the entire Star Wars saga: Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
This thrilling story is a little bit slow but a lot of twists in the plot makes this book quite good.
For sure a book a Star Wars fan should read!!!

This is one of the few Star Wars novels that has gotten great reviews that I haven't read.
Claudia Gray is one of my new favorite Star Wars authors. She has a way of capturing philosophical debates that makes them as exciting as action scenes. I enjoyed the development of Qui Gon and Obi Wan‘s relationship, but I felt there weren‘t enough clues for the resolution of the mystery to have substantial payoff. Still, it was very enjoyable overall with a satisfying conclusion.
Very enjoyable novel about the partnership between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi before we meet them in Phantom Menace. Very well conceived and well written plot with believable characters and good development of the two Jedi‘s relationship. I was delighted to learn more about the backstory of Qui-Gon Jinn and Count Dooku. The two most criminally underused characters in the Prequel Trilogy!!!
Had read the paper book, had to do the audio as well though! Loved the voice of Pax.
I finished MASTER & APPRENTICE on today‘s #audiowalk! The general setup was fun, as always, and I enjoyed it overall, but I still haven‘t found a Claudia Gray novel that hits me as hard as BLOODLINE did. I shouldn‘t have started there. It‘s made all these other perfectly good books pale in comparison.
ALSO, I‘m disappointed we never learned who Qui-Gon fell in love with. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION, CLAUDIA GRAY.
Completely forgot to post my review for this amazing book.
Another winner from Claudia Gray! If you loved Leia Princess of Alderaan you will love this !
This story is full of action and digs into the minds of Obi Wan and Qui Gon. We get to see new and different sides of the two and how they became such a good duo. There are many other new characters that fill these pages and make an epic tale.
I'm a little behind on the #StarWarsBuddyRead but I finally finished this one. I enjoyed the plot and the background of the relationship between Qui Gon and Obi Wan. I did think the writing could use some work but overall it was a fun read. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa
Just an update for those following along with the #StarWarsBuddyRead this summer.
I fully enjoyed the first two this June, looking forward to the next two.

Some great nostalgia for anyone who loved the Jedi Apprentice series as a kid as much as I did. And yet truly it's on take on Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon's relationship which starts off quite tumultuous. Loved the background & insight into this time in the Jedi Order & the story-- full of complicated relationships & characters. Definitely recommend for Star Wars fans. Hoping to read Queen's Shadow soon, too.
1.tagged book, Material girl, Mystical world by Ruby Warrington, The Cactus Sarah Haywood (audiobook), The Borrower Rebecca Makkai (audiobook)
2. Harry Potter and the Sacred Text ( really excellent podcast !!!)
3. Lost Stars by Claudia Gray . My roommate and I like reading Star Wars books and we had a good discussion about this one last night at his bday dinner! He also recommended I listen to the Thrawn audiobook by Timothy Zahn #weekendreads
Feeling really behind on my reading so hoping I can catch up a bit tonight
I enjoyed this one way more than I expected!
- Some prophecy hints about what‘s to come in the final installment this December.
- A few twists I didn‘t see coming
- How Dooku‘s slow slide to the Dark Side began, and
- Young Kenobi was so much more entertaining than I ever expected (& Pax & Rahara)
This is one of those that makes me regret that I won‘t be completely caught up with the new cannon books before the final film.

Up next for our #StarWarsBuddyRead we have 2 choices in June. You can read either or both, it‘s up to you.
I haven‘t read either of these yet, so I‘m going to try and read both this month. There are only a few months left until the next and last movie in the trilogy comes out in December, and I personally have quite a few new canon books I want to read yet before then. 😉
May the Force Be With You!
4/5
This was such a fun look into Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi's relationship before The Phantom Menace. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more than a couple of vague references to The Jedi Apprentice series, but I do get that it doesn't really fit with the current canon.
It's a fun read. And the audiobook narrator does a great job with the different voices.
I should put myself on a book buying diet but I could not pass up getting these two titles! I didn‘t think they were a bad price for hardcover!! I love Claudia Gray and Master & Apprentice was calling my name!! I need to get control of my spending now tho. This weekend is pop culture con in Denver and I know I‘m gonna find some books and art I cannot resist there!! Pierce Brown and Blake Crouch will be attending ! Gonna get some books signed .
I'm getting a little concerned whether or not I can finish all my books.
I warned my girlfriend that I would be falling into a Star Wars pit as Episode IX approaches, and it has begun. This was an excellent examination of the tumultuous early days in Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's relationship. A relatively small story, which allows for more focus on the characters. I didn't connect much with the new characters, though.
It's a long weekend, so I feel like I can still post this
1. Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
2. "Whoever wrote the Jedi Code, thought Qui-Gon Jinn, never had to deal with the Hutts."
3. "A book is a dream you hold on your hands." - Neil Gaiman

Claudia Gray is my favorite Star Wars author, and I was so excited to meet her at Star Wars Celebration in April! I just finished reading her new book, Master and Apprentice, and wow - what a great dive into Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan‘s characters. Loved it! ❤️
Ooooo I so enjoyed this. The last couple of Star Wars books I‘ve read have been set earlier and it‘s been fascinating actually, to be pre-Luke and Leia. The relationship between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon was complicated and set against an intriguing backdrop of a royal court and political upheaval. Twists I did no see coming. I love how Claudia Gray writes the Star Wars universe. I already eagerly await her next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was such a satisfying book. I love the prequel era so much and this delivered on what I wanted. The master and padawan relationship is so interesting to read about. The political intrigue was fun, and all the new characters were great. Claudia Gray writes Star Wars so masterfully!
Continuing the Star Wars love from this weekend by finishing up Master & Apprentice. At least I will if Leia will let me have my book...
#catsoflitsy
I'm halfway through three books at the moment. I don't think I'm going to finish any of them by the end of the month. ☹
Dinner drinking before after dark panels at the con.
Really enjoyed a story that delved into Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan‘s relationship. Pretty solid political drama too.
Claudia truly is queen for getting me to read and enjoy a book about qui gon! There is A LOT of interesting tidbits and here and the new characters were wonderful, I need a whole book just about pax and rahara! That said this book was still........ dense. If it had been any longer it might have been a struggle. However I still enjoyed it!
After getting a super damaged copy and having to replace it, I finally have this gorgeous book! My prequel loving heart is so excited.
Just in 😍😍😍
(I was OBSESSED with the Jedi Apprentice books as a kid.)
Okay the cover for Master and Apprentice is giving me such Jedi Apprentice flashbacks, and I'm loving it (and having just finished Leia, Princess of Alderaan, I'm even more excited to read this one)
Book riot did a piece on two upcoming Star Wars books for 2019 that will be focusing on the prequel material!
E.K. Johnston previous wrote Ahsoka, which is #starwarsbuddyread current book.
And Claudia Gray is writing a story about Qui-gon and Obi-wan! I am so excited for this one!

@Riveted_Reader_Melissa did you know about these?
I'm crying over these two new forthcoming Star Wars books. It's like all my middle school dreams realized! I was always obsessed with Padmé as a kid, and I absolutely loved the Jedi Apprentice series about Obi-Wan as a padawan. The fangirl in me is freaking out so hard about all this great Star Wars book news 😂
