The Taking of Annie Thorne
The Taking of Annie Thorne | C. J. Tudor
The new spine-tingling, sinister thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Chalk Man . . . 'Some writers have it, and some don't. C. J. Tudor has it big time - The Taking of Annie Thorne is terrific in every way' Lee Child _______________ One night, Annie went missing. Disappeared from her own bed. There were searches, appeals. Everyone thought the worst. And then, miraculously, after forty-eight hours, she came back. But she couldn't, or wouldn't, say what had happened to her. Something happened to my sister. I can't explain what. I just know that when she came back, she wasn't the same. She wasn't my Annie. I didn't want to admit, even to myself, that sometimes I was scared to death of my own little sister. _______________ Praise for C. J. Tudor . . . 'If you like my stuff, you'll like this' Stephen King 'Wonderfully creepy - like a cold blade on the back of your neck' Lee Child 'A tense gripper with a leave-the-lights-on shock ending' Sunday Times 'A major new talent' Sunday Mirror 'A must-read for all horror fans' Daily Express

Book 147🎧 3.4⭐️

Academia meets old secrets. Tudor is amazing at creating a truly eerie setting, which is pungent through out.

Is he back for the job? Or to check on something he thought was gone…

The supernatural crime story treads a very fine line between convincing and absurd but c j tudor does it very well and after chalk men I was glad that my 2nd of her books had me equally on the edge of my seat. Here a teacher returns to his home village where terrible crimes haunt the very fractured community. The author also captures small village midlan England really well although I don't think local tourism will thank her.

TrishB I‘ve enjoyed all her books so far. 1y

My September #BookSpinBingo didn't go entirely as planned... I only finished 3 books (including my #BookSpin book) and had to DNF one (my #DoubleSpin book).

But that's 4 books off my TBR, so that's a win.

I haven't picked up a book this entire month 😭 (I blame work)

So I'm starting the #SuperSeptember #ReadAThon with these 3 books.
Listening to Bridget Jonen's Dairy
Reading The other 2

I'll see how this goes and add more books once I'm back in the swing of things

Finished this last week while being stalked by my squirrel friend ?️
A teacher goes back to his home town after receiving an anonymous email saying "It's happening again" When he was young his sister had disappeared. It was the worst thing that had happened to him, until she came back!
This is a fantastic creepy mystery. Would be a perfect add for the upcoming spooky season.

C. J. Tudor is an author that I will be keeping an eye on. I enjoyed her first book, The Chalk Men, and found this one to be another creepy thriller. This one, I think, has more of an inexplicable paranormal element, which I love! I also like the alternating viewpoints of the protagonist, going back and forth between his years growing up in the town and his current situation, having returned in a rather bad time in his life. Highly recommended!

jlhammar I need to try this one. I really enjoyed The Burning Girls. Fun page-turner. Looks like we're getting a new one from her in November! 3y

My third CJ Tudor… The Chalk Man is still my fav, but this was pretty good. The supernatural hits were a little more seamless than The Other People.

Listening to this #audio kept my mind occupied during a few long drives for house hunting trips so I‘m grateful for that!

Finished my last round #LMPBC group read. Thanks for the reading @rjsthumbelina @Alfrazier21 @magyklyXdelish ! This was fun. I will admit I did not like this one as much as the rest of you. My second C.J. Tudor and I think I‘m just not a fan. I appreciated the twists and turns but often it felt like random balls being thrown into the juggling act....

🎧 WHAT A RIDE!

A psychological thriller with supernatural horror elements and a creep factor that‘s off the charts. I was on the edge of my seat until the last page!

The story has a mystery at its center but it twists.

Two timelines.

A little sister that disappears for 48 hours & returns changed ??

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️2/3 👇🏻

I had fun reading this for #LMPBC. The story and plot were so interesting and I always enjoy a thriller with at least one twist that I DONT guess so that was also nice. My biggest complaint I think is that the lore was so interesting that I feel like if it was expanded upon and gone into details with things that may have happened centuries ago it could have added to the creep factor. Overall I liked it and it was a really quick read.

I've had this book since before it was released in 2019, and I am so grateful that I finally read it! There's a LOT of plot elements to digest here: why has Joe come back to his hometown despite having no loved ones and having left on bad terms? What really happened when Joe's sister came back different after her disappearance all those years ago? Who is threatening Joe, and who knows what happened with his sister? 🔽 Cont. Below

rjsthumbelina (con. from above) What happened with the murder at the cottage where Joe is currently staying? And, how do the coal mines connect to all of it?

Yet somehow, it all worked so well together! And the characters were so well-drawn, I felt like I knew exactly who each one was and why they would respond certain ways in certain situations.

I definitely plan to read more by C.J. Tudor!

Obviously inspired and influenced by Stephen King, but finding own voice nevertheless; kudos for that. Set in colliery pit village in the UK, a school teacher commits murder suicide. Joe returns to take up a teaching position at the school, haunted by the disappearance of his sister years ago. Nicely done horror mystery, great as an airplane/train read.

This is a book about betrayal, suicide and murder. Joe Thorne's sister, Annie, went missing. She was 8 years old. Joe has returned to his hometown as he got an email that said that things were happening again. Joe seems to know who did it. This book fell short. a psychological suspense thriller with supernatural. I was let down by the ending. The Chalk Man was better!

C. J. Tudor‘s second novel is a tightly plotted horror tale that gives more than a nod to Stephen King‘s PET SEMETARY but which nevertheless has a distinctly British feel. The amoral and desperate Joe makes for an interesting protagonist and I liked Tudor‘s depiction of a broken pit village while the supernatural elements are generally creepy. All in all, this is a great Halloween chiller and I will definitely check out THE CHALK MAN.

It's been a long time since I started and finished a book in the same day. Very easy to read and enjoyed the paranormal elements added to the thriller main story. The end seemed too rushed and easy but I did like the how it ended. Would have been nice to have a bit more back story of the protagonist and Gloria. Other than that I really enjoyed this.
