Next Person You Meet in Heaven: The Sequel to the Five People You Meet in Heaven
Next Person You Meet in Heaven: The Sequel to the Five People You Meet in Heaven | Mitch Albom
115 posts | 119 read | 1 reading | 49 to read
In this enchanting sequel to the number one bestseller The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom tells the story of Eddie's heavenly reunion with Annie--the little girl he saved on earth--in an unforgettable novel of how our lives and losses intersect.Fifteen years ago, in Mitch Albom's beloved novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the world fell in love with Eddie, a grizzled war veteran- turned-amusement park mechanic who died saving the life of a young girl named Annie. Eddie's journey to heaven taught him that every life matters. Now, in this magical sequel, Mitch Albom reveals Annie's story. The accident that killed Eddie left an indelible mark on Annie. It took her left hand, which needed to be surgically reattached. Injured, scarred, and unable to remember why, Annie's life is forever changed by a guilt-ravaged mother who whisks her away from the world she knew. Bullied by her peers and haunted by something she cannot recall, Annie struggles to find acceptance as she grows. When, as a young woman, she reconnects with Paulo, her childhood love, she believes she has finally found happiness. As the novel opens, Annie is marrying Paulo. But when her wedding night day ends in an unimaginable accident, Annie finds herself on her own heavenly journey--and an inevitable reunion with Eddie, one of the five people who will show her how her life mattered in ways she could not have fathomed.Poignant and beautiful, filled with unexpected twists, The Next Person You Meet in Heaven reminds us that not only does every life matter, but that every ending is also a beginning--we only need to open our eyes to see it.

Yes, I would recommend my first read of the year. It‘s a sequel, but I don‘t think you need to read the first book to “get” this book. #sundayfunday

One book down for January. Interesting and touching sequel to The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Now it‘s off to the LFL.

For this month‘s readathon I want to finish seven books, and more if possible.

🎧 Good sequel! I liked the time shifts in the story that slowly show the story unfolding Annie‘s life from birth until the ending. Complete character development! Good twist. Fast easy read. The narrator is good, you‘ll want to listen again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I just love Mitch Albom's writing. Fiction or non, it doesn't matter. I love how this picked up from the first book, years later. My favorite Albom fiction is still The Time Keeper, and non-fiction is Have a Little Faith. Finding Chika was amazing too, better in audiobook. He reads them himself; that matters.

“We are blinded by our regrets…We don‘t realize who else we punish while we‘re punishing ourselves.”-one of my favorite qoutes from this book.
This book is a sequel to #TheFivePeopleYouMeetInHeaven. It got even more interesting to have found out the other side of the story. Another set of learnings. Another heartfelt story.

Book 6 of 2021: This is the sequel to one of my all time favourite books (the five people you meet in heaven) - so it was a welcome re-visit to a familiar world. The sequel doesn't have quite the same spark for me though, but I still enjoyed the journey.

“The Next Person You Meet In Heaven” by Mitch Albom to the original book “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” The original book followed a man (Eddie) through his journey in Heaven after was killed by being crushed by a carnival ride while trying to save a young girl, Annie. In this sequel book we follow Annie‘s own journey through heaven. In this book Heaven is depicted as going through 5 people who had a significant affect on your life.

Dior.campbell The genre of this novel would be inspirational fiction or philosophical fiction. A reoccurring motif in this book would be the imagery of kaleidoscope colours it represented new beginnings and the end or beginning of a life cycle. This book was written by my favourite Author and it is the sequel to my favourite novel. I would recommend this book to anyone who like a book that makes them think or look at life differently! 4y
Dior.campbell I would give this book a 100/10 I thought it was amazing and it‘s something that I will read over and over again and not get tired of! @MissYaremcio 4y
Dior.campbell Oh also, The point of view is first person (through Annie‘s eyes) it really adds to the book and I think the author did this so the reader could feel everything Annie was feeling as she was experiencing it! 4y
MissYaremcio I love Mitch Albom! He wrote my favorite novel of all time “the Magic Strings of Frankie Presto“! Great review! 6/6 4y
Dior.campbell @MissYaremcio that book is on my list to read!! 4y

I liked this one even more than the original, which I was not expecting to like at all. 😅 The Lord works in mysterious ways. #BookSpinBingo

Rachhyboo I did not expect it to be based on the girl who life was saved in the first book. It had a hard life after the accident. 4y

To grasp the essence of this book it has to be read soon after “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”.‘ It not only explains that book but also them together makes this into a truly unforgettable reading experience. I thoroughly believe in Albom‘s concept of the way things work, that we are all connected. But, most importantly, I felt like I was there with all of them in Heaven. By the end, tears were running down my face. Unforgettable! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My belated review. This is a very short read—one night for me and I‘m a slow reader. This is an uplifting follow-up to the first book, but I don‘t think it is as compelling as Five People. Annie‘s life story is good but it just wasn‘t as jaw-dropping as Eddie‘s. Five People was masterful. This book feels like the author now has a formula and can just churn out these stories. I hope he doesn‘t. A very good read but it doesn‘t need a sequel.

This book touches on a wide variety of diverse topics including trauma, depression, pregnancy, death (of others in your life), relationships, guilt and more. It is an emotional rollercoaster that pushes you to think more on yourself and reflect how your actions influences those around you but also how the past impacts your future (even if you don't have a direct connection to it).

@julesG so I was ready to pick up our buddy read but then school and work has just hit me really hard and has swamped me for the next several days. Because of that I just don‘t see myself being able to get through another fantasy book due to my lack of concentration 😫 Hopefully I can pick it back up soon and I can see how you liked it once I get to it 😢 Sorry for having to bail because I was so looking forward to the book!

Finally finished one of my Christmas gifts-Mitch‘s new sequel. For me, it was worth the 14-year wait. 🥳 But you must read this one right after “Five People” to fully appreciate it. I loved revisiting Eddie, learning even more about him and then finding out all about the little girl he tried to save. And I was so pleased to read a beautiful segment about how our beloved pets are patiently waiting to see us again in heaven. Of course they are!

shellleigh33 These are both great books! 6y

Annie, the girl who was saved by “Eddie Maintenance” in The Five People You Meet In Heaven is now on her own personal journey, and we also learn what happened to her immediately following the accident fifteen years ago.

Loved this sequel to one of my all-time favorite books. A very touching read with so much heart.

I recommend this to all fans of Mitch Alvin‘s first, The Five People, and anyone who believes that there‘s going to be answers.

Texreader I loved Five People too!!! I have this one. I need to read it 6y

I was nervous cause this woman was about to turn 31 and so am I. Then I just got caught up in her world. I liked who she met along the way and I like that it wasn‘t like Eddie‘s story. She needed the hope that her journey gave her and I like it.
