From the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls, a suspenseful new novel about an idyllic town in Maine dealing with the suspicious death of one of their own--and her best "summer" friend, who is trying to uncover the truth...before fingers point her way. Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl--but that's just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable--until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can't help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie's brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they're saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her. Another thrilling novel from the bestselling author of All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger, Megan Miranda's The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty read with a strong female protagonist determined to make her own way in the world.

I finished my March #bookspin over the weekend, and I was a little disappointed in this thriller. The first half was pretty slow, and it finally got interesting the last quarter of the book. I wasn‘t really interested in any of the characters, and it jumped around way too much for me. The writing was a bit all over the place at times. Onto my #doublebookspin next!

Today I met my first #JoyousJanuary goal and finished this book (with Nova‘s help). I read it with my sister and we both liked it.

It took a little while for me to get into this mystery, but the multiple twists at the end of the story made it worth it.
Read if you like an unlikely detective, or summer resident/year long resident class struggle stories.

Couldn't get into it. There's too many good books out there to waste time on one that you can't get into.

I‘d say this book was meh. The plotting didn‘t grab me and while there were definitely several unanticipated twists there was also one aspect that felt totally out of place like an afterthought. Overall, a serviceable thriller but not one I‘ll remember or recommend. Onwards!

“But Littleport has always been a place that favors the bold.” A small coastal town filled with big twists and turns. Avery, the local townie and orphan, uncovers the dark secrets of the wealthy Logan family. Death, dirty cops, real estate megalomaniacs, and “the plus one party” make this a fun and quick read you won‘t want to put down!

This was a fun, quick read that I probably never would have picked up on my own if not for a coworker bringing it in to school and physically handing it to me to read... I guest the main aspect of the twist ending, but there were a couple surprises along the way. My one annoyance was that the main characters were supposed to be in their mid-20s but it read very YA to me. Honestly, I might buy it for my library at school.

6/10 The first half of the book is just not gripping, the suspense gets better yet I feel like character development really lacks in a lot of characters. Not the worst thriller I‘ve ever read but definitely not the best.

Moving into college has totally hurt my motivation to read. Everything is new and overwhelming, but today on a dark Sunday, I am getting back in my groove. It took me a second to get into it, but I‘m excited for classes to start and to go back to my comfort hobby which is reading. Everything‘s going to be okay.

Not a terrible thriller, but not overly exciting. It lacked tension and the side characters weren‘t particularly interesting, but it was a pretty quick read. 3⭐️

This is the third Megan Miranda book I‘ve read and all of them have just been middle of the road reads for me. I have an ARC of her next - maybe that will be my last?

30% through and bailing. Life's too short for dull books.
I feel no level of suspense. I don't connect with MC, Avery, and her friendship with Sadie is equally as blasé to me.
I'm not curious about anything yet which for a suspense novel is not a good sign.
The characters and town seem too on the nose- more typecasts than real.

The Last House Guest ~ Megan Miranda. I picked this up randomly from the library based on the cover, Miranda had also written All The Missing Girls which I had enjoyed. I devoured this book in a day. It was fast paced and intriguing. Just what I needed to emerge from my recent reading funk.

I can tell the author wrote the book thinking we‘d be so invested in the main character Avery. But I wasnt & didnt care about her at all. There wasn‘t anything suspenseful happening & it was a boring listen. I finished it on the hope it would get better & it didnt. Too much description & too much telling, instead of showing. I wasn‘t invested in Avery & Sadie‘s friendship. Dont know how this was picked 4 Reese‘s book club. Disappointment overall.

I love it when the cds for audiobooks on CD are colorful! I‘m on Disc 2 now. A little slow for my liking so far, but hopefully it picks up soon. This was a Reese‘s book club pick so I have high expectations! And I loved Miranda‘s previous novel All the Missing Girls.

I have to say I was mostly disappointed in this book. I have always enjoyed Megan Miranda novels and had high expectations for this one. It was definitely lacking in suspense and I didn‘t feel any real connection or investment in the characters. It kept me guessing enough to keep reading, but I expected more ⭐️⭐️1/2

MyNamesParadise That‘s exactly how I feel about this book! I expected more because I‘ve enjoyed her previous book and it was a Reese‘s Book Club pick. It really is disappointing. There‘s no suspense and I couldn‘t care less about the characters. 5y

This book slowly unraveled its suspense. It wasn‘t one of those quick page turners that I couldn‘t put down. There is a great deal of character development and and a slow reveal of new details, past and present. Before the end, I had figured out “whodunnit.” The author still had a few surprises and tricks up her sleeve, however. All in all, it was a good book that I enjoyed reading.

This one had suspense and intrigue, but I didn't feel vested in the characters. There were several subplots and plenty of red herrings, but ultimately lacked that little something that would have elevated it from a good mystery thriller to a great one. Recommended for those looking for an easy beach read. Not recommend for those looking for a procedural mystery.

Enjoyed the mystery, however it was hard to tell how old the characters really were. Not sure if it was because of the narrator of the audio or the writing but they sounded/felt like high school or college, but they were clearly adults.
