This was a decent short-story novel, some good, some bad. I was looking forward to the one by Tess Sharpe, since I read one of her books and really loved it, but this story was kind of a let down. My favorite was Molly‘s Lips by far. It‘s not even a competition. 3.5⭐️ (If it was just on solo stories, Molly‘s would get 5🌟.)

Larkken Dang didn't actually review. All Out is an anthology that places queer teen love stories in historical contexts. Lots of beginnings-of-romances and seemingly maybe mostly F-F. This got a bit twee by the end, as I felt like I was reading the first chapters only of a bunch of romance novels, but in a very sweet way! 3y

My subscription to #bookspin #doublespin and #bookspinbingo is renewed! 🤓 I think I've figured out how to make this work best for me and not be derailed by never-ending novels that I really had thought would be more fun than they are 😜

I really enjoyed this anthology of queer YA historical fiction and historical fantasy! There were only one or two stories I disliked, which is rare with anthologies. My favorites were the stories by Anna Marie McLemore, Tehlor Kay Mejia, and Robin Talley. I appreciated that a wide variety of historical eras were represented, including at least one within my own lifetime 😅

Clare-Dragonfly After thinking about it, I did realize that all but one of the stories were set in either the US (or the colonies) or Western Europe. It would have been great to see some Asian, African, Eastern European, or Native American stories. 4y

If you're looking to add more LGBTQ+ titles to your YA library collection or book display, All Out is a great choice. It features an anthology of queer historical fiction for teens spanning a wide variety of time periods and locations. All the stories in All Out are also written by queer YA authors making this a great #ownvoices pick!

A lovely anthology from some really excellent authors depicting queer teens throughout history, from 1500s Spain to Y2K. I really enjoyed the breadth of the stories, identities, and experiences portrayed. Standouts were: Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore, Burnt Umber by Mackenzi Lee, Three Witches by Tessa Graton, The Inferno & the Butterfly by Shaun David Hutchinson, and Healing Rosa by Tehlor Kay Mejia

4 stars / ⭐⭐⭐⭐

One reason I‘m not usually drawn to fiction anthologies is it‘s so hard to rate them b/c of how varied your feelings on the different stories can be. I loved a couple (Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore & Healing Rosa by Tehlor Kay Mejia), liked a bunch, but was bored by a handful that just felt really simple with no, like...point to them? And very little queerness. But I am glad this book exists & appreciate the effort all around. 3/5 ⭐️

No better time than Pride month to finally pick this one up! I don‘t know if I‘ve read a fiction anthology of any kind since JC, but this has some great names on the jacket and it‘s historical queer fiction, so YES PLEASE. 🏳️‍🌈👌🏻

It‘s been a long day! I went to a committee meeting this morning, then to work where there was a staffing shortage today - so I had to wear a lot of hats! (At my job, sometimes that‘s literal! 😹) Now I‘m killing time at Panera before my therapy appointment. Soup is on the way! Hope all you Littens are having a great Friday evening!

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I love Panera's soups... Autumn squash is my favorite 😁 5y

I got about 1/2 way through this but other books got in my way and scored my interest. It has reached it‘s 5 renewal limit and must be returned today. Short stories aren‘t usually my thing, I like meaty chunksters.

SeeJulieRead Five renewals! We only get two! 6y
Cortg @SeeJulieRead Yes! I‘m so lucky! It used to be 3 but they changed it to 5 a couple years ago, as long as there isn‘t a hold for the item. The county next to us has 3 but they have automatic renewal and we don‘t. Patrons get cranky with that. Sometimes you just can‘t win with some 😂 I ❤️ my library system. 6y

I was really hoping for something more, but it never delivered for me. In a couple of months I won't remember any of the stories in it because none pulled me in.

The only thing I'm bummed about is there weren't any nonbinary/genderqueer characters or trans girls in these stories. (or openly bisexual characters unless I missed something idk) But there were amazing stories about gays, lesbians, trans boys, & asexuals. Asexuals!! There's never any ace rep!! And these stories are racially diverse--black characters, chicanx, Asian Americans--and these racially diverse stories came in droves. A++++++

saresmoore Yay for ace rep! 6y

It has been one hell of a week. I haven‘t been able to concentrate much on books but the books I‘ve started do not need a lot of concentration, and for that I‘m grateful. This wine is much needed and there may not be any left of the bottle in the morning. For now, I‘m just scrolling through litsy. 🍷

[#BookReview] All Out: The No-Longer-Secret Stories of Queer Teenagers Throughout the Ages edited by Saundra Mitchell! What a great way to start off Pride Month! Out of the 17 stories, 9 of the stories got at least three stars or higher so overall it was a successful read! I definitely recommend it. 🏳️‍🌈📖🌈

This one ended up being a three star read. I only gave two of the stories 5 stars (Anna-Marie McLemore and Mackenzi Lee) and the rest were just kind of... eh.

This was heartwarming and just generally superb. And yeah, the quality of the individual stories is uneven, because that's just a hazard of anthologies, but overall it's great. ("Every Shade of Red" by Eliot Wake, and "Three Witches" by Tessa Gratton were particular standouts, for me, though each for different reasons).

1. All Out anthology!! I‘ve been meaning to pick this one up for the last month or so.
2. Guy was trying to “show out” for his buddies and managed to get his car stuck on the train tracks.
3. No readathoning, just regular ol‘ reading between fishing and the rodeo!
4. A patron asked the Librarian why the Tales of Robin Hood had been removed. The librarian replied, “Too much Saxon violence.” Buh dum tisss.
5. Done!

This was a very fun read! I enjoyed all the stories and is definitely a great way to discover new lgbt+ authors. There are some overlapping themes in some of the stories: new year, witches, and wilderness but they‘re all done very differently! This is a very important collection of stories & as a whole, is beautiful and amazing!

Burnt Umber
New Year
Molly‘s Lips
Every Shade of Red
The Girl With The Blue Lantern

Oh, so this happened earlier today 😊 The next one‘s a big one, should I plan something fun for the milestone?? What have others done?
Tagging a new release I want ALL THE PEOPLE to know about and support! “All Out” is an anthology of queer fairy tales and I could not be more thrilled that such a thing came to life at all, let alone in this dumpster fire of a dystopia we‘re living in.
