This book confused me. I think it was supposed to be funny, but instead I found it mean-spirited and tone-deaf. I wanted more of 2015 Rae reflecting on her younger self with some growth, but there is none of that.

I had so much fun reading this book. Issa Rae is so smart and funny, and I‘m sure I‘ll be using her ABG guides for dealing with difficult people in the future. I‘m not black, but I am an introvert and frequently awkward, so a lot of her rules still apply.
I loved this book. It‘s funny and will definitely keep your attention. Well written with great storytelling.
I'm giving this a pick, but I don't feel like this gives you a good look at just how awesome Issa Rae really is. 💚
It's a quick read that I feel a lot of people could relate to. Some parts were funny, others were relatable and insightful. Overall, it's good, I just love Issa Rae and wanted her personality to shine through more.
Late-blooming azalea! #bloominglitsy I‘ll try to get a better picture soon. @Eggs
So I read this to balance out The Topeka School. It‘s fun, light, easy-to-read. I don‘t understand internet (YouTube, etc.) fame at all, but she still wrote a relatable book that I think a lot of millennials would find funny.
I love Issa Rae so I thought the book would be just as hilarious as she is. However, the book didn‘t quite keep my attention nor did her personality reflect through the pages😩 It was nice to get a background story on her life though.
Lucky for me, I found this signed copy at Ollie‘s!! 🥳 (Probably unlucky for the author ☹️) After sitting on the shelf for two years, I picked it up, and I really enjoyed it!
It‘s a memoir in non-chronological essays where she writes about growing up half Senegalese, her parents divorce, not fitting in at a south central LA high school, dating, making friends, trying to “find yourself”, and being successful as a web series artist. 4⭐️
Thanks for the tags @RamsFan1963 and @TheEllieMo 😁👍🏻
1. White chocolate Reese‘s cups!
2. I don‘t buy much because most of my stuff is still in storage, but I don‘t regret reactivating BOTM. 😁
3. Tagged, The Swallows (yay bookmail!), and finishing up The Need later today.
4. @Reviewsbylola and @emilyhaldi haven‘t see you in awhile!

Post 1 of 3. I've been falling behind on reading updates! I've finished a few audiobooks recently so time to catch up. This was a nice glimpse into to the life of Issa Rae, who I only knew from Insecure. I thought I would relate to her story a bit more since the title basically describes my life. But she doesn't seem that awakrd honestly. Her story was inspiring and entertaining none the less, I definitely want to see more from this chick.
📸 Awkward selfie alert! 📸 So I love Issa Rae and was prepared to love this book. But while a few of the essays were excellent and chuckle-quietly-funny, a lot of them fell flat, Issa‘s unique voice and perspective not coming through the pages. Still, I‘m glad I got to know a little more about her.

After the intensity of The Heart‘s Invisible Furies, I‘m enjoying Issa Rae‘s humor. And dog shenanigans in the background!

It was okay, but didn‘t wow me either. Some parts were pretty interesting, while others weren‘t. Glad I tried it anyway.

Some funny moments, even more vulnerable ones. There were some stories that dragged and others that were moving and relatable.
Finished this yarn scrap-busting hexagon project that‘s going to sit on the top of our upright piano. Lots of fun working on these hexagons and half-hexagons (hadn‘t made them before this) while listening to this audiobook

Doing some #audiobaking this afternoon. An attempt to use up leftover Halloween candy! I‘ve chopped up all those little Twix and 100 Grand bars and am adding them to oatmeal cookie dough. Also, I replaced half of the plain flour with white whole wheat. So it‘s a healthy cookie 🍪 right?
An entertaining collection of essays that mostly skim the surface. I enjoyed the book, but I‘m more a fan of her work in television, where her voice absolutely shines.
[Book 11 of 2018] Funny yet honest memoir. I wasn't into some of the "ABG guide" chapters but I highly enjoyed the rest. I loved listening to Issa Rae read the book, and I was able to get into it a lot more than when I read the first few chapters in print.
This was just okay, not bad but not good either.
“At only eleven years of age, I was a cyber ho. Looking back, I‘m embarrassed. For me. For my parents. “ 😂🤣😂🤣
This book was hilarious and a page turner!! 👍🏾👍🏾
Listening on this morning's walk. I still haven't watched Insecure! 🙈
I relate to Issa Rae. I enjoyed this book. Very few people understood me growing up because I was so awkward. Hell I‘m still awkward at 30. I have to make a point to stop talking because my anxiety makes me talk too much. I have to tell myself to speak to strangers when they speak to me. It‘s hard work being awkward lol... oh and I can‘t dance. There I said it. I‘ve got all this ass and I cannot move it. It‘s a burden 😂😂
Yes!!!! I remember watching her YouTube series and I love that she has made it!! I‘m loving this book so far!!
A hilariously honest book about being awkward, black, young, and figuring it out.
Besides, my great-grandmother‘s oak grand piano was just sitting in our living room, collecting dust (and random stickers, much to my mother‘s annoyance. “Who keeps putting stickers on the piano?!”).
*I guess that's one advantage of having kids nine years apart. We'll probably be able to easily figure out which is responsible for each type of property disfigurement. 🤣*
*And stickers! Don't get me started on stickers . . .*

If conversation is something I dread, eating is something I look forward to. I wake up excited for breakfast, which is, hands down, my favorite meal of the day. Sometimes, at dinner, I fantasize about what I‘m going to eat for breakfast the next morning.
*Yes. All the yes.*
I don‘t normally share my bullet journaling, cuz I think I suck at it, lol, but I was super proud of myself for this. It‘s my book tracker for the year and I am still debating if I will color in the books after I write in their titles or not, but yeah. Here it is! #bulletjournaling #booktracker #books #bookworm

Issa Rae actress, writer, director, producer, web series creator and cover girl. Gifted, talented I also think she is hilarious.
OK, I‘ll play (she says after she hasn‘t completed a photo challenge in 6 months). I was completely unfamiliar with Issa Rae prior to receiving this ARC many moons ago from one of my very favorite modern girls @Liberty . I loved it and STILL need to catch up on Insecure. #FierceFeb #ModernGirl
