“Every year, I feel too old on the outside…all I can do is make the most of whatever age I am.”
I‘m going to say this is a pick although the first half was just kind of confusing and a bit boring. It‘s a time travel tale so obviously there‘s that unbelievable chaos to contend with, but it didn‘t seem remotely engaging ( I LOVED The Time Traveller‘s Wife so I am happy to disregard science for a good story) but then just past the mid mark some jumps happen and I was hooked, then another big bombshell drops. So strong second half for 3 ⭐️s
#sundayfunday thx for the tag @dabbe coincidentally my FIL just asked me this - currently I have 4 on the go #hashtagbrigade The Hotel, #sundaybuddyread The Flight Portfolio #audio The Secret History ( irl bookclub) and a just because book - Oona ( which I‘m about 1/2 through and really still not sold on) I am starting later today or tomorrow Katherena Vermette‘s latest “real ones” b/c I‘m seeing her speak on Wednesday #prettynormal
This was a good palate cleanser for me. I bought it several years ago from a list of the best time travel novels. The concept is interesting enough to keep the pages turning and I cared about the 3 main characters. Not fabulous prose, but I needed a break from slow going wonderful books that make you work for it This is how you win the time wars was from that same article and better.
Just started this one today. I was really intrigued when I heard about it. I enjoy books that play with time. So, if you have any recommendations, let me know.
Such a fun read!!! The time travel makes no sense, but if you shut that part of your brain off, you‘ll have a grand time.. I LOVED it!! I love how she goes from 18 to 51 in her first “slide”. The shock of her older body shook her. Thank God we age chronologically bc we have time to get used to it. Well worth the read. I had a great time.
This story is an interesting concept of time travel where the main character jumps through time at different age intervals. I liked it as it jumped through the decades and had a large focus on the main characters love for music and how that influenced her life in a way through the people she met and would meet. I thought all the time traveling would leave the story a discombobulated mess but it really flowed well and had a good message.
This quote came up on my audiobook at the exact moment I saw the post for this swap so of course I took it as a sign to sign up. #LitsyLoveSwap ❄️📚💌
Blarg!! The time travel rules in this book did not make sense at all!! I could not get past it because they kept on referencing them every time I‘d try to just get into each chapter and enjoy the narrative. 🤦🏻♀️
On Oona‘s 19th birthday, she wakes up in her own 51-year-old body. The book chronicles her life as she jumps from one age to the next…out of order. 🤣🤦🏻♀️
August wrap up! Definitely a lighter month for me between getting Covid and adopting a new dog, we have just not had a minute to chill 😂😂😂 My top picks this month were Oona Out of Order, Darling Girl and Bomb Shelter! Can‘t wait to kick off September with something good 😊
I did not expect this book to be so good. I‘ve read quite a few books that incorporate time travel or alternate realities in some way, but this one may be my favorite. Oona is such a great character and the many characters that are introduced are just as awesome. I loved how colorful and fun this book was and how it really just made me think about life and living in the moment. This was absolutely excellent. I loved it.
Have you ever sat and said to yourself “I wonder what past/future me would think about right now me.” This book is that. Ponder jumps in and out of her life every birthday to another point in her timeline. One day she‘s turning twenty and the next she‘s 51! Masterfully done, I think.

I forgot to post this review after completing it on New Year's Eve. I really enjoyed Oona Out of Order a lot more than I had expected to. I thought it was going to be more Hallmark-ish or "rom-comy" and was pleasantly surprised by the bit of dirt and depth it ended up having.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘ve been saving this for my first audiobook of the year! Each New Year‘s Eve, Oona leaps to another year in her life. With each out-of-order year, the layers of her story drew me in more and made me think about fate and the blessings and hardships of life. I think fans of “The Midnight Library” might particularly enjoy this! 🎧
I had no 5 star reads in March, so this one was the best of the best in 4 star reads. Different and enjoyable. Definitely recommend if you have read it already. #12Booksof2021 @Andrew65
I completed my #BookSpin book, Oona Out of Order! I really liked this book. It was funny, sad and surprising all at once so it kept me pretty engaged. It has a great message about enjoying life as it comes.
Here is also an update for my #BookSpinBingo board!

I think this book helped me get out of a reading funk. I was hoping for more and wanted to keep going on the Oona ride.
Every New Year's eve at midnight (Starting at 19) she time travels to a different year in her life. So lets say she might be 25, but wakes up in her 51 yr old body. It was disorienting at first, but as you learn more about her life it becomes enjoyable. Oona grows with wisdom and begins to look at the time she has in a new way.
"Whichever way the years flowed, it was impossible to outmaneuver their passage. (...) All good things ended, always. The trick was to enjoy them while they lasted. (...) There would be bad days, there always would. But she'd collect these good days, each one illuminated, and string them together until they glowed brightly in her memory like Christmas lights in a mirrored room."
I underestimated this book! At first, it seemed a bit fluffy to me. But as it continued, I liked it more and more and by the end I loved it! Certain parts even made me cry. A great read!
The hook was good and the twists were enjoyable. Oona is human to the point she is her own antagonist sometimes. I found Oona frustrating as a character often, but I would recommend the book. 3/5
I really enjoyed the writing but could not connect with the main character, Oona. I found her selfish and unwilling to see her impact on others until the very end.
This was a fun and different spin on time travel! Each New Years Oona is transported to a random year of her life and thus lives her life out of order. She has to learn to make due with the circumstances she is thrown into and not spoil too many things for her future (and past) self.
I thought this was well done. It's not too confusing to follow the convoluted timeline and it's fun to go along with Oona as she pieces together her life.
This book was very wholesome. Very moral of the story. I really loved following her around in her many different ages and how crazy, amazing, and sad it was. That part I LOVED. Buuuuut, I am SO confused. I am the type of person who needs explanations, I'm not much on it is the way it is. I wanna how how, why, and everything in-between. And it left on so many unanswered questions! That's why I will have to give this a 3 star.
Margarita Montimore‘s Oona Out Of Order is definitely going to be one of my fave books of 2021! It‘s an innovative time travel and self-discovery story about a woman who lives her life in a non-linear manner and grapples with all the things she loses and gains from that. Poignant, captivating and totally unique — this smart and emotionally page-turning novel will linger for a long time.
What a unique story! I loved the concept but definitely have a few quibbles. First, Oona keeps making terrible decisions and we never get to see her grow out of that. Next I kept trying to wrap my brain around the logistics but that's impossible; I finally gave up trying to figure out how her leaps happen but I also couldn't understand why she didn't keep records of the events of her life so she'd be better placed for making choices each year. ⬇️
I thought the premise of Oona living her life out of order as the title suggests was an interesting concept. However I never really formed an attachment to Oona through out her escapades from year to year which kept me from fully enjoying this one. Sometimes with time travel plots I get too tied up in overthinking the mechanics of it instead of just going with the flow so that might have had something to do with my overall impression.
LOVED this one. It had me appreciating my relatively “young” 45yo body 😊
I only managed to finish 1 book for the #20in4 #readathon and start a few others. I was distracted this weekend. I clocked 9 hrs 23 min. Thank you @Andrew65 for hosting! 💕
This time travel adventure leans more toward the sentimental than the sci fi end of the spectrum. The characters are really well drawn and there are some great twists.
I love my #cupidswap package! Thank you so much! The chocolate was delish. Thank you @candority for organizing!
A great read for the new year, especially if you are feeling stuck.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I really enjoyed this book. Oona finds on her 19th birthday that she has jumped in time to another year, and that this happens every year on her birthday. It‘s an interesting concept that is well executed. I was invested in Oona‘s story and the people around her.
🚨🚨🚨 Super excited to read difficult women and Oona out of order was one of my favorite books this year. If you've been wanting to get either of these Amazon kindle has them on special today.

This makes me think of Oona jumping around in time figuring parts of her life out and having to unravel the story. Many revelations in this story.
I invite everyone to repost and tag a friend! Happy Friday 😁
Despite an interesting premise of time-traveling Oona, the book fell flat. On her 19th birthday in 1982, she travels forward in time. With the end of every year, on her birthday, Oona travels in time, either forward/backward. She writes advisory letters and yet leaves her present self to live that one year. I liked the twist but Oona was a strange protagonist with little growth.
I‘m about 60 pages in and the cover is the most interesting part. I‘m done. Life‘s too short to read books that aren‘t great. #LMPBC Group U, I‘m sending ya one of the other options ✊ @TheSpineView @MyBookSwapClub @Kappadeemom
I loved this book! I love the concept, the lessons about the impermeability of time and inevitable nature of our own fates. So glad I read this!
