This fourth arc of Monstress develops the fox girl Kippa's character and revolves around Maika's confrontation with the father she barely remembers. All of the characters have plans wrapped within schemes which remain mysterious to the reader. We learn some tantalizing details about Zinn, the ancient being possessing Maika.

Volume 4 takes us back into the mythology of this world, which is totally my favorite part of the series!

KristiAhlers I love that series 1y
Deifio I also love that series! Have to get into it again, I think I only read the first two volumes 🙈 1y
IndoorDame @Deifio I recommend it! I flipped through the first 2 at a friend‘s place years ago, and the art style was so captivating I couldn‘t get it out of my mind. So glad I‘ve finally returned to read the series properly. 1y

This is a review for volumes 4 & 5 of Monstress. I read Monstress Book 1 at the end of July. Book 1 collects the first 3 volumes of the series. Three months later & it remains my favorite graphic novel series of the year. Monstress is a unique & genre bending work with unforgettable artwork. It is a dark fantasy with elements of cosmic horror & sci-fi. I see that volume 6 was released a couple of months ago. I will be dropping by my library at👇

vivastory some point tomorrow to pick it up. 2y

1. Just Mercy (almost done)
2. Jan was rough for me in terms of getting books read that I actually liked, but tagged book was great.
3. Does the 2nd Malecifent work? Idk.

She's a wise little fox. It took me a minute to follow as I read volume 3 so long ago, but man is this my jam! The artwork is just beautiful and it's so dark and there's a lot of gears in place. And I still have questions, so I'll still keep reading 👍

Lui still keeps me on my toes as she flashes back from past to present, showcasing the action and the ripples that it created in the current present and hints at what might be coming around the corner.

I'm still in love with Takeda's art styling - the details are just amazing to look at and I'm constantly wondering how she fits it all into these panels.

Bk2 of the #24B4Monday #readathon & Bk13 of #WinterGames for #TeamNutcracker is done! This is my favourite graphic novel series hands down. The artwork is fabulous, the characters are strange, frightening & demented but also hopeful, faithful and just plain good. Mostly. And the story is imaginative & inspired. Highly recommend for people who like their fantasy filled with monsters. #ImpulseRead 11pts #PointsTotal-2,284

Snuck in another comic tonight. Monstress is phenomenal—Liu‘s writing is spectacular & Takeda‘s artwork is outstanding—& keeps on getting better & better. This comic is hard to explain. It‘s far easier to say it‘s well worth your time & a fantastic read—great worldbuilding, compelling characters, complex & absorbing story along with visually stunning art set this award winning comic apart from others. Can‘t wait to see what happens next!

Stunning art, as usual, for this one. The story is complex and was a little hard to follow in this issue. I got the feeling that mainly the characters are being positioned for the next installment. Good to see more of Kippa‘s backstory in this one. 3.5⭐️ #hoopla

The fourth volume in this series doesn‘t read as strong as the previous three volumes. The story has grown so large that it‘s becoming more difficult to track all the characters and how they connect. This fourth volume comes together in the end, but I was a bit lost during the first half of it. I‘m still on board for the long haul and am eager to see how it all eventually ends. Sana Takeda‘s art is as gorgeous as ever. #graphicnovel #fantasy

CoffeeCatsBooks I agree with you that this one wasn‘t as strong but the artwork is just so fantastic. 4y

It‘s Wednesday!!! I❤️#ncbd! Trades to read—Fear Agent, Vol. 1, Deadly Class, Vol. 8 & Monstress, Vol. 4. Several new comics out today & I picked up The Dollhouse Family #1, Family Tree #1, Far Sector #1 & Folklords #1. And ongoing comics—Wonder Woman #82, Collapser #5, & Runaways #27 (if you are a fan of Rainbow Rowell & not reading this comic, I urge to take a look, it‘s excellent). There is so much awesome here, I don‘t know where to start!

A second comic finished for #24B4Monday

The story continues in this fourth volume and we get some more backstory on Maika. The characters are also preparing for war. Not sure what else to say without spoiling anything.

I can‘t wait for volume 5.

I absolutely adore this series. I don‘t like horror much yet I love this - the art is gorgeous, there are powerful women, complex characters, storyline, myths, betrayals, intrigue... everyone is bad (with perhaps the exception of Kippa), but almost everyone also has something good in them.

In this volume, Kippa has a great storyline, and Maika meets her father... and learns things she wishes she didn‘t. And what‘s up with Tuya? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

CoffeeCatsBooks @Gezemice I think a year is pretty good. I feel like I‘ve been waiting so long for the sequel to My Favorite Thing is Monsters. 5y
Gezemice @CoffeeCatsBooks That one is much bigger... most other series have been putting out volumes every half a year. But I am not complaining, I rather would wait until they get it right! 5y

Ah finally the 4th volume! As expected loved every page. More of the fox girl and the most adorable dog ever! Besides the cuteness, this time Marika meets her father but he is not the father figure she expects and she escapes and finally winds up with the rest of her crew. Looking forward to the next volume out to see if the war does break out and what happens between Zinn and Marika!

This volume was a bit confusing for me- the cast of characters is huge, and I was having trouble remembering who was who. I probably should have re-read volumes 1-3 first. That being said, the artwork continues to dazzle- lush and rich.

To be fair... Sana Takeda pretty much always steals the cover of the week every month Monstress comes out. I mean...her covers and interior art is friggen next level stuff. 🤷🏼‍♂️
