Finally managed to find a pretty enough edition of In Search of Lost Time. Definitely going to be one of my 2025 reading projects 🥰

My only interest in the coronation was to look at some of the pictures of attendees and I spotted this superior book game from the crown princess of Greece (who looks just thrilled to be attending!). I knew Littens would appreciate this! 😂
Beyond buying fewer books and reading what I already own, my main #readinggoal for 2023 is to tackle Proust's masterpiece. I doubt I'll make it through all 6 volumes but maybe halfway? But we'll see.
I turn 50 in 2023 so I plan to lean into "f*@k it, I'm 50" energy whenever I need to. If that includes giving up on Proust, so be it. ?
New on my shelves - I have been waiting for them all year! Reprinted edition with new covers, and I must say that they are gorgeous ♥️
Years ago I purchased the full edition of this on my Kindle. Started reading it there and I was at 1%, read more .... then more ... some more too ... and I remained at 1%. I am clearly more goal driven then I thought because this drove me nuts. So today, I am off to purchase the actual book(s) so that I can see progress, otherwise this book and I will be having a very unhappy ending. And I do want to read it. Off to the book store. 👏📚💕
As soon as I saw this gem, there was no hesitation! I have been trying to get a volume set for ages!!! THIS is indeed a first edition and the books have only been opened once (based on condition of pages and cover, aside from the writing on spine), and the third one feels and looks as if it was never read (aside from the writing on the spine)! The spines show some fading at the top but my guess is it‘s because of where it was sitting/stored.
I am proud I‘ve finished Proust! It took me more than 3 years. That is too long, I lost count of the characters and the ‘plot‘ as a result and probably didn‘t give it the attention and appreciation it deserves. Often I skimmed and couldn‘t be bothered by the endless pages of Marcel‘s observations. However, sometimes there were scenes or sentences that are so brilliant and so significant I won‘t ever forget them. And that‘s worth a lot. #1001books
Love is a striking example of how little reality means to us.
#31bookpics day 5 (skipped it yesterday!) @howjessreads #BIGbooks Pictured is the Guinness Book of World Records winner for longest book. I was curious so I did a quick google search for other big books. Here‘s the list! https://www.shortlist.com/entertainment/books/the-10-longest-novels-ever-written...
Took 7 months, but was worth every hour. Greatest novel ever written. An extraordinary tour-de-force from #marcelproust who took 12 years to complete the novel.
Look what I found this afternoon! A sweet little bookstore and cafe! 😄📚💞
I made a hasty and poorly thought out decision last week and bought this. But now that I have it I'm really glad I did. Not sure when or how I am going to read this but I'm definitely looking forward to it! Has anyone read this? Did you read it all the way through, read it with other books in between or some other way?
Happiness is beneficial for the body but it is grief that develops the powers of the mind.
Planning to read Swann‘s Way for the #ATY2018 #aroundtheyearin52books prompt: a book that intimidates you... and am contemplating this beautiful set. Should I or shouldn‘t I? It is almost my birthday after all (shhh I already bought some books for my birthday 😂).
Well, time got away from me tonight. But I spent some quality time with a friend from high school who‘s going through kind of a rough patch. So, I guess you could say that I participated in the #ThrowbackReadathon in deed rather than read.
I also pet a cat & now I want to claw my own eyes out. 😭
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
I didn‘t manage to finish Proust this year - not in a long way. I am in the fourth book (of seven) and although I really like it, I am not really making much progress lately. One of my goals of 2018 is to finish them.

The narrator is in some way obsessed with the memories, and this involuntary memories are the essence of our past ... and now I want some madeleines 😋

I think #24in48 may be over for me and I did PITIFULLY! I read so little hours I'm really disappointed (although happy that I read 1 book, finished another, and started a third). Next time will be better...! Uh, when is the next round? 😉
This also really highlighted how I have to make reading more of a priority, even if I am a student and 4:30am bedtimes are a thing multiple days in a row. 😜
And there goes the #booktree for another year. @Hobbinol , I thought you would like this row. 😉 #FolioSociety
#classiciveneverread I have the full six volume Modern Library set of the Proust classic that I've never read. I keep thinking maybe it's something I'll read when I retire. #seasonsreadings2016
If you read In Search of Lost Time then you know how important is a scent of fresh Madeleines and hot tea.
The books are comprehensive monument dedicated to the little things in life, that leaves a large mark in our memory.

"Each time she saw in others an advantage, however small, that she did not have, she persuaded herself that it was not an advantage but a detriment and she pitied them so as not to have to envy them."
I know several people like this! ;)
We believe that we can change the things around us in accordance with our desires—we believe it because otherwise we can see no favourable outcome. We do not think of the outcome which generally comes to pass and is also favourable: we do not succeed in changing things in accordance with our desires, but gradually our desires change. The situation that we hoped to change because it was intolerable becomes unimportant to us....
Since I always feel like I disappear when I'm reading, I thought I'd repost this photo I found on Artsy. Plus I'm always a million shades of blue like my mood-swing got stuck way up in sky-blue, only to plummet deep into a cool swimming pool kinda blue. Such is my life in monochrome... #bookart

Was able to sneak away at lunch to visit my favorite little second home Book People!

Having the time of my life reading this!
Did not expect *funny* 😂😂
Stop ignoring me for Proust!
