I quite fancy this series. Maisie as the main character is an interesting lead given the time period and I must say these are easy mystery reads with heart and serious topics but done in a way that is easy to consume. This will be a go-to author for me now when it comes to murder mystery reads. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
This is the second book in the series and I know I‘ll keep reading more. Maisie is clever but there‘s also a real emotional depth with the characters. It reminds me of the Inspector Gamache series, which is a very good thing. This plot revolves around a wealthy grocery store owner and four women who seem to be hiding a secret about their actions during the war. I‘ll definitely keep reading these post-WWI mysteries.
I enjoyed this second installment of the Maisie Dobbs series. I don‘t believe I liked the first one as much, but I‘ll definitely be continuing the series. The narrator did a good job with the various characters. First book finished for #20in4 .
And yes, I like my old-fashioned headphones. 😁
Maisie is a treat. I don‘t think this qualifies as a cozy mystery but then again I‘m not sure what exactly a cozy mystery is. Either way, I love this character.
FINALLY, getting around to reading the 2nd in this series! I read the first over a year ago so I had to reach back to remember details. It was nice to get more backstory on Maisie, and the mystery here was very well done, being both poignant and heart wrenching. A father‘s search for his adult runaway daughter leads to unearthing some monumental decisions that she and three of her young friends made during the war (which led to the deaths of 🔻
Well, I did enjoy the mystery in the second Maisie Dobbs book more than the first. I find Maisie an interesting character, although she needs to eat more! 😉. It was annoying me how every few chapters the author mentioned how she hadn‘t eaten all day, or she refused cookies, or she forgot to eat. I don‘t know why I picked up on this or why it bothers me so much....but, darn it girl, eat!
Maisie Dobbs shuffled the papers on desk into a neat pile and placed them in a plain manila folder.

A recent bit of #HappyMail from my pen pal, @BekahPat is bumping this up on my reading list! 🤗📚🥰 Thank you, friend!
Excellent detective pick with a lovely heroine and great historical details (post-WWI England). On to the next in this series—I‘m addicted!
I think people are trying to forget the war, don‘t you, Miss? My cousin ... He said that it was one thing to be remembered, and quite another to be reminded every day. He didn‘t mind people remembering what he‘d done, you know, over there. But he didn‘t want to be reminded of it. He said that it was hard because something happened to remind him every day.
I will end up coming back to this book. After I started reading it I realized that I am not in the mind set to read this particular book.
This was my second Masie Donna book and even though I loved the first, I thought this was better. The characters had already been introduced and I was already attached, so in this book the focus was more on the mystery. It was another one of those mysteries that wasn‘t impossible to solve but also wasn‘t extremely obvious. Good for a night in.
I enjoyed this second installment of Maisie Dobbs. She continues her deep look at the lingering impacts of WWI as well as the economic stress people are under and how it affects them. This one covers a bit more of Billy‘s backstory. The mystery focuses on the disappearance of the daughter of a wealthy business owner and quickly becomes part of a larger investigation.
2nd book in Maisie Dobbs series, and like 1st one I found it both interesting and boring.
Interesting as historical fiction in its depiction of post-WWI Britain, reeling from the trauma of war and moving forward slowly yet surly. The details and the research are rather impressive. However, as mysteries the books are BORING. The characters are flat lacking depth and individuality esp Maisie who is more of good-girl-robot with a 6th sense. #review
I liked this 2nd book as much as the 1st one. I am enjoying this cozy mystery series so far but I am loving the character of Maisie Dobbs even more.
Well, that wasn‘t heartbreaking at all.... this mystery series reminds me alot of the Louise Penny series.
I‘m enjoying the Maisie Dobbs books so far. I like the attention to historical detail and the development of the characters over time. The reader of this #audiobook was a bit irritating, but the story made up for it.
A new book for my #audiocommute, to help (I hope) improve what‘s turning into a crappy work week.
Jumping into my second Maisie Dobbs book on a break from cleaning the unfinished portion of my basement. My husband is building the shelves and I‘m making sure we need all the stuff! But my back aches from pregnancy, so Cosmo is providing moral support while I rest.
I'm using our library's new Hoopla subscription to work through some backlists in audiobook format, and this is the first audiobook I've listened to in close to a decade. I did enjoy the story, but I was annoyed that I figured out the plot twist before Maisie did. I appreciate that this series deals with the repercussions of WWI into the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Another great read. Really enjoying this series.
Currently on audio - making my way through the Maisie Dobbs series.
I cannot get enough of this series. The writing is stellar, the character someone I wish I knew in real life, and the cases fascinating. I‘m diving into the next one as soon as possible...
Having a rough school day. 😔 Grateful for this sweet face 🐶 and a good book 📖 to forget my troubles for a bit...
Since starting school I haven‘t had a ton of time for “fun” reading. Hoping to make a dent in this tonight though. 🤓📖🐶
Just laying around while mom reads... 🤓🐶📖
Ya'll, I've decided cozy mysteries are just not for me. I wanted to enjoy this, even after I was meh about the first in this series. It's not bad, it‘s just all a little too precious for me. I like my characters a little more flawed and complicated. Anyways, at least it's another challenge prompt completed for #Booked2018 #CozyMystery I‘m halfway through this season!
I'm house bound due to Irma thankfully she was just a tropical storm by the time she reached us in south east Georgia so time to start a new book on the kindle I really enjoyed the first Maisie Dobbs figured I would try to read the whole series I believe there is 12 books
Happy Friday. 😎 Perfect night to start a new book. 📚
This was just as strong as the first book! I was honestly surprised by that to be honest. I always expect the follow up books in a series too not be as good. This one did it and again she did a great job capturing facts and events from the era that I hadn't heard about. Educational and intriguing!
I know people who love this series; I, however, merely think it's okay. I have a hard time warming up to Maisie. The narrator does a fine job with the books.
Just as good as the 1st one!!! Just picked up 3 and 4 from the library. I can't stop!!!❤️💜💙💕
Starting the 2nd book in the Maisie Dobbs series. Hope it's as good as the 1st!!! ❤️💕💜 being able to read outside.
