Day 2 of my 5 day weekend and the toddler is off on a fun field trip with his day care today. I'm thinking about all the things I should be doing while I have a child free house today but for now House of the Dragon, coffee and my book are calling.
Happy Friday!!
While the boy plays quietly with Baby Shark I'm going to try and get a few pages in. I didn't continue with this series because I was waiting for the final book. I had no idea it's been released so now it's time for a refresher of book one before moving on and getting this series complete!

What a disappointment this turned out to be. I really wanted to love this book, but the repetitive nature of the storytelling, and the sheer stupidity of the characters just turned me off the whole thing. Not sure if I'm picking up the sequel. 😕

TBR for Asian Readathon next month. This will be my first time to join this so keeping the list less ambitious. 😅
1. Asian author + Asian protagonist = Please Look After Mom by Shin Kyung-Sook, 🇰🇷
2. Favorite Genre = Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao, 🇨🇳
3. Non-fiction + Not US-centric = The Broken Circle: A Memoir on Escaping Afghanistan by Enjeela Ahmadi-Miller, 🇦🇫
Might add more next month, we'll see!

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. There were a few things that could have been fixed (like making it clear that Ana becomes a different person when using her magic instead of her going back and forth between hating it and reveling in it). But despite its flaws, Blood Heir was actually pretty interesting.

"Long live the Revolution." With all his strength, the red-haired man smashed the burning torch onto the stage.
Just reading Blood Heir and hiding from the world.
Am I the only one who feels sad about the rioting? I mean, Floyd's death was a tragedy, but violence is never solved with violence. And a lot of people are taking advantage of others at this time.
I hope everyone is staying safe. ❤
Starting Blood Heir tomorrow! Have you read it yet? What are your thoughts (without spoilers!)?
I liked this premise of this book, I liked the characters, I liked the story. With that said, I liked it, but I don‘t really have much more to say.
Borrow grade book, 3 stars. Check out my review @ https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38205707-blood-heir

This book is filled with lines like this-I am excited for the second in the trilogy to come later this fall. There were some twists I didn‘t see coming- Can‘t wait to see more of Ramson Quicktounge. Also, I know there was controversy around this story prepublication, but from my admittedly privileged position as a white woman, I thought Zhao fixed how the racism was delt with nicely.

I know some others have said that this is just another typical fantasy but this is everything I love about reading. I love losing myself in another world where the main character chooses to be strong and stand up for their beliefs. I love connecting with the characters and pretending for just a minute that it might be me on the page being a hero.
I didn‘t hate it, but didn‘t love it. Typical YA with not a lot of originality. I would‘ve liked to see some character arcs taken to a different place. Packed full with almost too much action that we didn‘t get enough character depth in my opinion. Still love the cover 😍
Bookish Song Nr. 5: Behind Blue Eyes
I never liked that song and actually, I still don't. But when it popped up on Deezer Shuffle, before I could hit skip, I suddenly was in the middle of the book. And the more I continued reading, the better it fitted.
I started out with “This is an ok story. Typical YA.“.
Then it got to “The story gets more complex. I did not expect that!“
And then it come to “I really like this book!“
Especially the characters got more and more interesting and the more I listend to the audio book, the more I cared for them.
Now I wonder how the second book will turn out.
Still waiting on my preorder to get here. I think it got lost in the mail 😖 so I decided to toss on the audio while I worked. I had a sample of this before the whole controversy became a thing and really enjoyed it so I was beyond excited when it finally got published!
This is typical YA fantasy. No real surprises or anything special but the characters were easy to connect with and the story pulls you right in. I'll be waiting for the sequel
I read a few articles about controversy around the publishing of this book. But I found it to be a pretty standard ya fantasy.
FYI friends!! I‘m hosting a YA book club over on instagram & we are reading this book for Jan! Me and another host are gonna do an IG Live discussion on the date/time on this image. If your interested in joining give me a follow on Insta at ➡️ thebookkeeperspage & rsvp in my stories!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Princess is said to be dead, but she really isn‘t and ran in a time of betrayal. She is looking a fugitive to help her. Once found, they go on a quest to find who killed her family. Once on the quest, they see first hand about slavery.
There is action, betrayal, treason, and great chemistry between the two main characters.

Things I liked:
the winter setting and overall atmosphere of the book
Things that fell flat:
character development and the plot was a bit clumsy

Ok so everyone is posting their fav books... but I‘m curious to the unread books you WISH you had read 😝 2019 was a phenomenal reading year for me and I have so many new favs...but also this long list of books I‘m 💯 hyped for but didn‘t read. What are some of yours?
Today on the blog Emily shares her November #shelflovecrate #unboxing so check it out and as always, beware of spoilers!

There's a lot about this book that I liked but it was absolutely not the narration of the audiobook. I made a conscious effort to disassociate the narrator from the content. I liked how dark this book was and it def didn't shy away from the murdery stuff. I liked the characters and politics and conflicts and trying to steal the throne games. I'll definitely pick up the sequel.
So I'm kind of cheating by reading a few chapters of this today. Also, shout out to my fellas who SWEPT the Melon Music Awards and then just casually did a mini-concert.
Just killing time and trying desperately to finish this damn ARC. 😩
So excited about this one!!! Pub gifted me this copy and I have partnered with them to #giveaway another!!! Head over to my Instagram (decorating.reader) to check it out!!
Only on Chapter 9, but this girl is annoying me. After only Chapter 1, I couldn‘t help but think it was the dumbest start to a female character that I‘ve ever read. Let‘s see if it gets better...
Sorry for my break.
I am SO Glad this is back. I was so disappointed when this was pulled for “controversies“ over an #Ownvoice author seeming to write from a different perspective. I am glad it is now officially being printed, and last I read they didn't change much if anything. (I could be wrong about that). This was one of my favorite covers of the spring. I can not wait to get my hands on this book.

Wow! Interesting article in The Guardian. I take issue with the part about YA starting with Harry Potter, but that‘s totally aside from the main point, which has to do with #ownvoices :

This is getting published in November 📚

OMG!
I just read this. I‘m so sad. I was looking forward to this book. I‘m still trying to figure out ex a toy what is going on, but it sounds similar to what happened with the Continent.
Such a successful Yallfest! Between me and @Nitpickyabouttrains we have 51 Arcs. I‘m super excited about Blood Heir and Cold Day in the Sun.
