The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes
The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes: A Patient-Expert Guide for the Newly Diagnosed | Gretchen Becker
5 posts | 1 reading
Diagnosed with type-2 or non-insulin dependent diabetes in 1996, Gretchen Becker educated herself on every aspect of this chronic condition by reading medical books, talking with doctors, listening to her own body and using the Internet to communicate daily with other people with diabetes. Now, as a patient-expert, she guides all those newly diagnosed through everything they need to learn and do in the crucial first year after diagnosis. This indispensable guide simplifies but never patronises and offers a wider approach than any so far adhered to by doctors. It answers all the questions that assail the newly diagnosed: How to cope with daily maintenance? How to make sense of the terminology about measurement of blood-glucose levels? How to build self-knowledge and confidence? How, overall, best to adjust to life with diabetes.

Night 3 of sleeping in a hospital chair. They can‘t get the hubs sugar down below 200 and he can‘t come home until it is. So I‘m just gonna sit here and be a grumpy guss until I can sleep in my bed. The Lumberjanes are keeping me company though.

Jess7 I‘m sorry! Thinking of you!! 7y

So I‘ve been at the ER with my husband since 3:30
This afternoon. We found out he has Type 2 diabetes and currently has pancreatitis. So we will be here for at least 48 hours. I‘m scared and all I can do is fake that everything‘s okay so the hubby doesn‘t freak out too!!

Jess7 {{{{{hugss}}}}}}} 7y
Texreader Oh no!!! Take care of yourself and hoping he responds well to treatment! 7y

GarthRanzz Get him over the pancreatitis and things will be okay. I‘ve been living with Type 2 for over 15 years. Just, as others have said, having some education, lifestyle changes and medication will make living with this okay. I‘ve yet to have to start taking insulin so taking regular medication and watching his diet will help so much. We are all here for you! 🤗 7y
Schlinkles Hope he gets stabilized and can come home soon. Sending positive vibes into the universe. 7y
