Quick update on my #JoysOfJune #ReadAThon progress
I'm only left with Still Life for the weekend, but it is my mother's 60th birthday and we're taking her away for the weekend, so I'm hoping to finish. 🤞🏻

When I clocked the dates in each chapter of the latest DI Karen Pirie the tension instantly ratcheted up. When the forensics lab have people off sick with colds they‘ve picked up on a trip to Northern Italy…
Written once lockdowns started, there‘s a vicarious thrill to seeing Pirie dart about to Paris, England and Ireland, and you‘re wondering if the case will get mired in the first lockdown in the UK. 👍
A few minutes later, they stopped outside a small café. Chevrolet jumped out, opened the back door and gestured that she should leave.
'Please, Commandant Pirie, go inside', he said. 'My boss, he is with the judge, just round the corner. He told me he will meet you here.'
'How will I know him?"
Chevrolet looked her up and down. 'He will know you, madame. You do not look French.'
And with that, he was back in the car.
An enjoyable read. I‘ve not read one of her books for some time. She mentions places that I know well in Scotland.
Was a perfect distraction and quick read. A more gentle read than some of her previous books.

I really enjoy the Karen Pirie series, and this book is no exception. A book set in February 2020, so only a few faint mentions of COVID. The cold cases featured here are interesting, and it is great to see Jason « the Mint » Murray coming into his own as a copper ?
« Karen emerged from the dystopian fluorescent gloom of the Gayfield Square station into sparkling sunshine on Leith and the rest of the city. »
(in best Proclaimers accent) ? And while the chief / put SUNSHINE on Leith ?
Listened to this on audiobook and totally loved it despite having already read it as a #NetGalley book. This really is an excellent book and recommend it strongly, great storylines, great characters, actions, and a strong Covid 19 the e running through it so very current.

Loved this book, and has to be the first one I‘ve read that got Covid 19 into the book! This was a very enjoyable double plot, and was good to introduce a new character in the series and I hope she‘ll figure strongly in the future books. Bit globe hopping visiting England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and France as well as the Scottish setting. Totally recommend this series. #NetGalley
