While I loved The Seven Year Slip, this one did not make the cut for me. Off my shelf and onto my PangoBooks shelf!

The story definitely has a Disney-esque fairytale feel to it. Clearly she‘s is a huge Disney fan—from the title to the animal friends, the curse, and all of the Disney easter eggs, like:

“But can you imagine? Me, dancing with that boorish, brainless. . ."

I skimmed most of it & never missed anything.

Book 7 for #wyrdandwonder

slategreyskies I‘d forgotten until this post that I‘d been meaning to try out pango books. Just signed up. It looks interesting. Thanks for the tip! :) 6mo

I LOVED THIS BOOK I‘ve read so many lackluster books lately and this one was so fun to read. I read it in one sitting and had so much fun. The story was engaging and unpredictable and I loved it.

An intriguing read. It was a quick one too. The plot doesn't get too convoluted and made it a really good story. I liked the world building and the twists along the way. A great ending too. 5* first book finished for #20in4

I‘ve recently started turning away from YA fiction but this was a pleasant surprise. I wasn‘t a huge fan of the audio narration but this fairytale retelling was unique and a little dark. It‘s labeled a retelling on goodreads, but I‘m honestly not sure what it is a retelling of. Each of the characters had a lot of growth and I enjoyed the world building. Not the best retelling, but a creative and enjoyable one.

#Black is probably one of the easiest of the #scarathlondailyprompts. Probably a good 1/4 of my books have mostly black covers. I wonder why it's such a common thing. Anyway, these three are from my TBR shelves. I believe they're all from my Owlcrate backlogs. I really should get to them sometime...

It‘s been a while my Litsy friends! I‘m going to start off my first post after a hiatus with a review 😜

This book was very fun, but somewhat lacking. The storyline was fantasy and magical, but I just couldn‘t connect with the characters at all. That cover though is stunning 🤩

🎧 I didn‘t know what to expect from this OwlCrate book.

It was a whimsical YA fairytale. I‘d say it‘s family safe. Magic & monsters. A collection of fairytale tropes that a younger teenager might enjoy.

I enjoyed it. The publisher‘s summary is spot on. #sharreadathon

This is me as of September 1st, basking in the anticipation of my fall TBR.
I'm all about witches and fairytales this time of year... but I'm currently reading Project Hail Mary alongside Among the Beasts and Briars 🤷🏽‍♀️ Loving both.

ShyBookOwl @Zoes_Human Same! My mom actually sent it to me because it reminded her of me lol I added the TBR stack though 😏 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I think of them as the -burr months. Just last week it was 97° in the shade and I was sweating bullets. Last night I went to an outdoor event and was still chilly with my thin sweater. 3y
ShyBookOwl @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yeah, this time of year the weather fluctuates sooo much throughout the day where I am. Chilly when you wake up and go to bed, and sweltering in between 😅 3y

I love Ashley Poston. I devour her books. And I think the worst part is finishing because there isn't any more book to read. This one had a super secret clue at the very end that there may be more of these. So we shall see what she comes up with next.

I would read these no matter what they looked like, but how awesome is this cover?

While this was remarkable in its own right, with gorgeous prose, a deftly molded atmosphere, and creative storytelling, it didn‘t produce strong emotions for me, while my expectations demanded it should.

This was such a great read. The detail that went into describing the bone eaters and the cursed forest, the complexity of characters, the adorable relationship between Daisy and Fox... these were the magic ingredients that made this story come alive. I loved it!

What I liked:
I really loved the atmosphere in this book. It‘s definitely the strongest part for me. The creepy forest crawling with zombie-esque creatures cursed by the woods themselves really made for strong imagery that was fun to read about. The description of the main threat, the Ancient, also painted a creepy picture and I‘d really like to see some fanart of him. I also like the softer side of the atmosphere... cont on IG dearb00kshelves

With the cringe dialogue, the obvious plot and the unnecessary (and weird as hell) romance this just fell flat for me in the “fairytale” aspect. Plus the one character I wanted to see most I NEVER GOT TO SEE. ALSO IT ENDS WITH A STUPID TIME JUMP AND RUINS THE ENTIRE END OF THE STORY. I hate time jumps that don‘t let you actually see what happens in the final battle & instead you get it all wrapped up with a neat little bow and everyone is happy 🤮

Sweetkokoro Also yes I am playing catch up on my digital ARCs. Now that I have a kindle it will be much easier for me. Reading on my phone was just to difficult for my eyes. 4y

Among the Beasts and Briars was a charming YA Fantasy which puts something of an original spin on the genre. I especially love how refreshingly open it is in its pro LGBTQ+ stance.

I listened to this one on audio and the recording was excellent.

I really enjoyed reading this story! I started out slow due to being busy with life and such, but today I finished the book. At first, I was annoyed with the repetition of her saying “I‘m just a gardener‘s daughter.” However her character grew by the end of the story. I‘m wondering if there will be a sequel? There were hints about who her mother was but it wasn‘t revealed at the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

I didn‘t expect to fly through this book, but I managed to read this one in less than a day. This book was a bit dark, and it was a good fantasy read filled with flawed characters, humor, action, and some romance. My only complaints are that Cerys was a tad annoying with the constant crying and the constant “but I‘m a gardener‘s daughter” spiel for a good chunk of the book, but she redeemed herself in the end.

DustieP I agree! I got annoyed with the repetition of “I‘m just a gardener‘s daughter.” I really enjoyed the story. I‘m a little disappointed the storyline of who are mother is wasn‘t wrapped up. It was alluded to several times but not addressed at the end. 4y

So I ended up really disliking my original pick for this round of our #lmpbc @TsundokuAleax and @bookandcat and just didn‘t even want to send it on. I instead went with a tried and true author who we‘ve all enjoyed in the past and this did not disappoint. This was fantasy as only Ashley Poston can write it and I found it eminently charming.

bookandcat This looks good! I can't believe Blue Ticket was that bad, I loved The Water Cure! 4y
