Thank you again and thank you @BookwormAHN for hosting!! #MWS #ModernWitchSwap
This book is overall is slow pace. Only to find out this book is 1 or 2 in the series. This book is meant to move slow and world build so the reader has an idea of landscape and the characters. There is reference section in the back of the book, to help readers visualize and understand the terms that may not be familiar and to give context to the story.

I gave it a good go but really couldn‘t get into it. I may come back and try again later on.
The next book ready and waiting for me to give it a try.
I just couldn't relate to main characters. I disliked the writing style and maybe that made it impossible to care about characters. I feel so bad because many has loved this.Didn't work for me and that's so rare thing to happen.
I read fantasy a lot but this was still so confusing and I really hated how information was threw at the beginning. That made me to loose my interest and I couldn't have been less interested in the story.

JULY WRAP UP: I read a total of 4 amazing books. My favorite of these was the tagged book!
(Pinterest photo) Wow. What a wild ride of jamaican folklore featuring witches, voodoo, and even pirates! This book had so much adventure, although hard to keep up with at first I ended up really liking it. @sprainedbrain I'll be sending this off to you by the end of the upcoming week!
I. Am. Struggling. With this one! Hahaha soooo much about ruling and fighting to stay in a ruling position for power!!!! But I'm here for the romance and it needs to present itself more because I'm barely hanging on! This one's difficult to keep up with but I like it? Yeah, I think so.
What I'm reading this week! Ciannon's writing style is very different in a way that I'm having to read pages twice to understand quite a bit! This is not a light read hahaha but I feel it's gonna be worth it.
Shout out to Pango Books! Got 2 hardcovers for a steal and just in time for my LMPBC read!
Side Note! @Endowarrior21 @Readergrrl @persephone1408 I didn't even realize this book is about 530 pages. It didn't occur to me because I usually read books about this length, is that gonna be too much for anyone?? Please let me know. Also I'll be sending it out without the dust jacket 😄
I went into this with pretty low expectations because reviews have been poor but I absolutely loved it. I devoured this book in two days. I loved the Jamaican/Island magic setting, two strong female characters with many interesting secondary ones, an army of the dead, unique creatures, pirates, a horrible villain and morally grey characters. I can't wait for the next one and this book will remind me not to always rely on reviews. #pop22 #popsugar
Truly outstanding read. Myth and magic, the foundations of legend, Anansi stories — in a smashing power struggle between covens. I don‘t always love having two alternating narrators, but these were so skillfully written that I honestly still am not sure who I am rooting for. Both? Throw in some intrigue, mystery, and a gentle hint of romance, and you‘ve got everything. Plus, the COVER!
Happy Jolabokaflod! Thank you for the amazing book!! I can‘t wait to read it🥰hmmm hot chocolate 🖤 #Jolabokaflodswap
My first completed read. I tried this on audio and one of the narrators was too distracting. Overall it was unique and the story really grew on me as it went. #bookspinbingo
I removed the dust jacket to start reading this OwlCrate edition and happily found some art inside the dust jacket. I love when that happens. I also love when there‘s a design on the hard cover. 💚🖤
A lovely quote for todays Witchy Wednesday! I look forward to reading the tagged book very soon.

I was expecting so much more from this book. But the pacing was off and a lot of times I forgot who‘s POV we were on and I ended up DNF-ing it after about halfway through. Super disappointed.

The concept of this and the cover are stunning. The actual read though was confusing and far too long. I feel like had the author included a list of terms it might have helped because there was a lot of terminology specific to this world that didn't get explained in the story.
I would definitely try another read by this author. She has great potential, but this one didn't work for me.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 191.

This story was hit and miss for me. At times, I was into the story, but I never became fully invested in the plot. I do wonder if I would have enjoyed the story more reading it compared to listening to it. Mayne I'll give the book another chance at another time. We'll see.

The concept of this book had me nearly drooling with anticipation. A Jamaican fantasy YA novel featuring witches?! Right up my alley! The book was very slow and could have been much shorter. I also wish that we were given more of an explanation for events and terms that exist only in that world, as it came across as though the reader would already know the details of everyday life.
I'm not totally sure that I actually liked this. There was definitely some skimming going on.
Fairy Loot May box! 🧚🏻
The book is Witches Steeped in Gold (tagged) and it's so much more gorgeous in person than in this picture!
Other items:
Throne of glass tumbler
Serpent and dove coasters
Raybearer phone stand
TBR Dice game
I've been subscribing to Fairy Loot for a couple months now, but I keep forgetting to post 🤦🏼♀️

Today‘s #BookMail is this gorgeous edition of the tagged book from Fairyloot. It has a completely redesigned dust jacket, embossing on the cover, stenciled edges, artwork on the reverse of the jacket & is signed by the author. They always pull off a better redesign cover than Owlcrate who generally just change a colour & call it “exclusive”(though I do love owlcrate boxes too).
Took today off to recover from a not great week, and it‘s been a lovely day hanging out with my girl 💛 don‘t tell her she has a vet appointment in a few hours.....

4/5 for this one! This book was so detailed! It was easy to follow each POV but you have to pay attention to the world building, the magic was amazing. There is also a pirate which I love! There were so many twists and turns too that I didn‘t expect. I will be continuing this series.
It hurts me to say how disappointed I am with this book because this could have been epic. It had all elements. Powerful lore. Jamaican inspired setting. Powerful witches. Political intrigue. And it pains me to say that everything was so underwhelming. I couldn't connect to the characters, the foreign words thrown about only confused me, the magic system was so random. I'm not looking forward to the sequel nor am I recommending it to anyone.
Came home to a new package from my favorite subscription box 😍 So glad I forgot to cancel my subscription after December because I've honestly been loving getting a book subscription box again
(I'll put the actual box name in the comments under a spoiler so anybody who wants to know can and anybody who doesn't want to be spoiled won't be.)
"...????? ?? ??? ???????? ?????????? ?? ?? ?????????? ??????? ?? ?????? ???????."
A Jamaican-inspired fantasy based on the Obeah magic of island legends. Alternating viewpoints between Jazmyne & Ira, the reader learns the history of the reigning power struggle between their families. While Ira is bent on revenge, Jazmyne is determined to take down the cruel ruler, her mother.
The strength of this YA fantasy, the author‘s debut, is the world the story & the characters inhabit. The world building in this Jamaican-inspired story is thorough, fascinating, & fully immersive—sometimes too much so which means that the book has some pacing issues. All the elements are there, however, & readers who like a slow build may well enjoy this story. I think it has unrealized potential which, with luck, the second book will realize.
