This was a lovely and imaginative retelling of Snow White and Rose Red
I am starting Snow and Rose by Emily Winfield Martin, and I am so excited for this book because I have heard so many things about it. All good of course. I will be giving an update every week, and even try to finish the book in a couple of weeks. Follow along with me as I embark on this amazing adventure.
I couldn‘t decide which Snow White I wanted to read for the #fairytalereading challenge. So I picked both tales available on https://surlalunefairytales.com. The re-tellings I chose are Snow & Rose that I‘m audiobooking on libby and Fairest of All, my own ebook copy.

This is a wonderfully written middle grade retelling. It's very atmospheric and full of heart.
The physical book has beautiful illustrations as well.

I devoured this fairy tale retelling last January and highly recommend it. It‘s in such a place of honor that I will probably break my rereading rule to read this one again.

Atmospheric. I could feel the forest and snow around me. Even better than I had hoped.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “To find out what a story‘s *really* about,” the Librarian said, “you don‘t ask the writer. You ask the *reader*.” I absolutely loved this fairytale and the intricate illustrations. Fun way to start 2021!
Loved this 🍂& now sending a copy to my nieces
Last YouTube readathon during March: Middle Grade Books. Also, with book, I read 2 and half books during Litsy weekend readathon, 24 something☺️The story of this book is ok, in my opinion poorly integrated. However, the book is gorgeous, from cover, quality of pages, design, author illustrations, were unique. In terms of rating, story 2.95⭐️book with illustrations 3.95/4⭐️ I like these readathon because help me to read more books from my tbr

Snow & Rose didn‘t know they were living a fairy tale... people never do.
Omygoodness. This book was so beautifully written and executed so well! Definitely a favorite added to my shelves.
The ending made me cry happy tears and I am so emotionally compromised right now. Read it, I know you‘ll love it. It is a wonderful children‘s book that contains all the wonder and magic but portrays grief in a excellent manner.
(The only part I didn‘t care for was when the kids repeatedly disobeyed and kept many secrets.)
“Snow and Rose didn‘t know they were living in a fairy tale . . . People never do.”
Gah. This book is so whimsical and I love it. On page 81 of 203.
This has everything I love about middle grade fiction and is one of the reasons it is one of my favorite genres. Beautifully published with lovely illustrations and a well-executed magical story. A wonderful addition to my shelves.
The illustrations are so lovely in this book. The story is good too.
School started back this week so it's back to sitting in pickup lines. People who don't read must get so bored 😊

I just happened to find this at the library yesterday. It's a much better handling of a fairy tale than my last one, though I read this myself and not to my daughter. I think it's a little dark for her yet (she's almost 5).
Rose and Snow are adapting to a new, simpler life in a cottage in the woods after their father goes missing. Their adventures are by turns fun, exhilarating, and dangerous. But something menacing is lurking.
“To find out what a story‘s really about,” the Librarian said, “you don‘t ask the writer. You ask the reader.”

“Snow and Rose didn‘t know they were living in a fairy tale—people never do.”
When their father‘s disappearance forces Snow, Red, & their mother out of the luxurious house they called home & into a small cottage in the woods, they discover a new & magical world. By turns dark & mysterious, wondrous & strange, Martin‘s reimagined tale of ‘Snow White and Rose Red‘ is a feast for the eyes & a delight for anyone who loves a good fairy tale.
“To find out what a story‘s really about,” the Librarian said, “you don‘t ask the writer. You ask the reader.”
“Just before autumn faded, it burned bright with gusts of electric air, with the smell of wood smoke, everything dressed in gold and scarlet and bitter browns.”
“What is a library made of?” she said in that way people do when they know they‘ve asked a tricky question.
“A whole lot of books,” Snow answered...
The Librarian shook her head. “Wrong.” She took a bite of cookie. “A whole lot of stories.”

I‘ll try to stop with the excessive quoting soon. Really, I‘ll try but the book is an absolute delight and it‘s hard to resist sharing beautiful snippets.
Otherwise known as the best sort of library...
Really, really love the illustrations in this book. It‘s gorgeous.
Things are quiet so reading a few pages of this beautiful book. Love, love, love the illustrations.
I‘m not above reading children‘s books they hold the heart of all true stories. This ones story and beautiful illustrations make it a very special one for me.
This is a lovely telling of the Grimm's tale. Two sisters who wander the woods, a missing father, a grieving mother, a magic library, a pet bear, and a friend who harvests mushrooms--this tale is beautifully illustrated in romantic watercolors and evocative prose. #fairytales #childrensliterature #kidlit #kidlitart
Two girls lose their father and beautiful life to be placed in a small cottage and an enchanted wood with their grieving mother. They meet Ivo, a mushroom farmer and friend, and see many unusual animals. Stranger yet is the little man that Snow and Rose keep meeting, who is quite unpleasant even as they help him. Martin's many illustrations and twist on a tale create the perfect retelling for children. A true favorite!
This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen! Plus it's a fairytale, and those are my favorite. This is my daughter's book. A great part of having kids that are readers is they keep the house stocked with books for you to borrow, many you might not come across yourself. I can't remember how this goes and I'm trying to decide whether to look up the old tale or be surprised. 😀
I am really enjoying this book. The story has me captivated. I love the illustrations. The paper is so smooth and creamy...I was going to give this as a gift to my kids but I couldn‘t resist it. I guess I‘ll share it with them:)
What a wonderful re-telling of the tale of Snow White and Rose Red. Beautiful storytelling -- I was completely captivated -- and the illustrations are exquisite. This would make a perfect gift.
"To find out what a story's really about," the Librarian said, " you don't ask the writer. You ask the reader. "
If the writing is even 1/2 as beautiful as the illustrations, this will be a wonderful read.
