Grave Reservations, Volume 1
Grave Reservations, Volume 1 | Cherie Priest
A psychic travel agent and a Seattle PD detective solve a murder in this quirky mystery in the vein of Lisa Lutz's The Spellman Files and Charlaine Harris's Aurora Teagarden series. Meet Leda Foley: devoted friend, struggling travel agent, and inconsistent psychic. When Leda, sole proprietor of Foley's Flights of Fancy, impulsively re-books Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt's flight, her life changes in ways she couldn't have predicted. After watching his original plane blow up from the safety of the airport, Grady realizes that Leda's special abilities could help him with a cold case he just can't crack. Despite her scattershot premonitions, she agrees for a secret reason: her fianc's murder remains unsolved. Leda's psychic abilities couldn't help the case several years before, but she's been honing her skills and drawing a crowd at her favorite bar's open-mic nights, where she performs Klairvoyant Karaoke--singing whatever song comes to mind when she holds people's personal effects. Now joined by a rag-tag group of bar patrons and pals alike, Leda and Grady set out to catch a killer--and learn how the two cases that haunt them have more in common than they ever suspected.

Grave Reservations was my nighttime book, but since I had 20 minutes left I finished it on my first walk. Leda Foley is a psychic travel agent. When she saves the life of a cop client by rebooking his flight because of a feeling, she gets involved in a murder case. I like Leda; part of that is because, unlike mcs in many cozy mysteries, she doesn‘t do anything egregiously stupid. Continued with Widows. #diversecozies #audiowalk

Texreader Ha! I know what you mean about mcs in many cozy mysteries. It can be so frustrating! 12mo
KathyWheeler @Texreader Yes! They suspect someone of murder but they go talk to them alone or something equally idiotic. 12mo

More in my favorite #CoverTrend . The Booking Agents Series. Sounds like a cute cozy, a psychic travel agent teams up with a skeptical detective.

This was kind of silly but fun and entertaining. A travel agent who sings psychic karaoke helps solve several murders. Not as mad cap as Stephanie Plum, but a similar vibe.

A psychic travel agent teams up with a police officer working on a cold case. Right up my alley!

Unfortunately, while there were elements I loved (the found family at Castaways, the klairvoyant karaoke, clairsentience), I found Leda more irritating than charming. She seemed to sulk whenever she was reminded that arrests need to be based on evidence and policework, not just her psychic flashes.

Felt like a 2000s chicklit but not in a good way.

This was super fun. Silly, but wonderful. I loved the friendship between Niki and Leda. Fabulous detective novel. Can't wait to pick up the next one!

I finished another title on my #bookspinbingo and found 162 words for the #scarathlon2022 #wordsearch.

This was a good cozy mystery with a little twist — the main character is somewhat psychic. I thought the characters were good and the mystery was interesting. I will read the next one for sure.

Finished up all but the Jane Austen mystery & A Secret Sisterhood. Louisa May Alcott was fascinating- so much new information drawn from impeccable, detailed research, from archives, letters, published works. Highly recommend for anyone interested in her character & life. Grave Reservations was a mystery with the unexpected duo of funky, karaoke singing psychic & policeman working together to solve a crime.

Cinfhen The NF sounds fascinating!! Need to look for it - thanks for putting it on my #ReadersRadar 😊 2y

This was a fun read. When a sometimes psychic travel agent saves a detective from getting on a plane that blows up, things start getting weird. Can she work together with the detective to solve a case? And can they also figure out who killed her fiancé three years ago?

Cozy mystery that started off strong but fell flat quickly! It had so much potential but it didn‘t work for me…did anyone else feel this way also?

This was a cute cozy mystery about a psychic travel agent. Who gets approached by a detective for some help on a cold case, after she saves his life by changing his reservation on a doomed flight!?
I really enjoyed the MC and the Detective ?️‍♂️, I laughed out loud when he admitted to a "jugallo" phase??. I really like cozies this time of year, and this one was a sweet one.

Priest departs from the horror she usually writes to pen a story about a psychic, who also happens to work as a travel agent, who saves Grady Merritt‘s life by switching his flight, based on a “strong feeling.” It turns out Merritt is a policeman & he recruits Leda to help him solve a cold case. When she realizes that case is tied to the murder of her fiancée several years earlier, Leda is all in. This is a fast, easy read. Not deep but enjoyable.

This one is pretty fun. A psychic and a cop team up to solve a bunch of old murders after she stops him from being involved in a plane crash. Think Spellman files or some other fun mystery with quirky characters.
