Ava is a vampire kept in her tower home by her mother. Kaye is a witch, vowing to kill the vampires that murdered her mother. Former friends, now enemies, when they have to make it through the forest, they‘ll only have each other to depend on.

For a story of a vampire/mortal war, this felt too slow. All the characters felt flat, & I did not care about the romance. I was fascinated by the magic system, & the narrators were pretty good.🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

2 ⭐ This book had promise. But for me, it did not work as an audiobook. It seemed to be all “girl drama“. And I hate girl drama. It was about the friendship lapsing, and what the two girls feel for each other much more then about the adventure.

The world building was interesting. One girl was a witch, been that was since birth, the other was a witch, but was turned vampire by a mother who wanted to steel her magic.

LibrarianRyan The vampire was kept locked away from her friends and the community was told she was sick, for years. When the girls rediscover each other they think if they can get to the magical city they can save themselves and their community. Once again, the story was so much more focused on the “girl drama“.

I wanted to know more about the magic system, and why the forest was eating people! But the drama kept dragging on, and I turned it off. 1y

The beautiful cover caught my attention. The story was okay: A Rapunzel retelling where a vampire and a witch were enemies but were not always so. It had more potential but it felt a little flat for me. However, the audio production was well done. 3 ⭐️

LibrarianRyan @Yuki_Onna it is grievous. It should have been my type of book but it was so much personal drama that 1/2 in I DNFed. I wanted to know more about the ground eating people but it was just drama dump and they never got to it 2y
