9 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
Vera Stanhope, star of ITVs Vera, returns in the tenth novel in number one bestseller Ann Cleeves acclaimed series. Fifty years ago, a group of teenagers spent a weekend on Holy Island, forging a bond that has lasted a lifetime. Now, they still return every five years to celebrate their friendship, and remember the friend they lost to the rising waters of the causeway at the first reunion. Now, when one of them is found hanged, Vera is called in. Learning that the dead man had recently been fired after misconduct allegations, Vera knows she must discover what the friends are hiding, and whether the events of many years before could have led to murder then, and now . . . But with the tide rising, secrets long-hidden are finding their way to the surface, and Vera and the team may find themselves in more danger than they could have believed possible . . .

Another great Vera adventure. The setting of Holy Island was used to great effect, and the ending was very well done.

This was a strange read because the book itself was giving off a not so nice smell and made me irritated .
I‘m guessing it is the print. Never happened to me before. Anyway it was a good read though I‘d have liked to read it faster but I had to keep having breaks. Love Vera.

Bk6 of September is done! I‘m on a roll🙌 This was brilliant, so far every book this month has been fantastic. The 10th Vera novel definitely didn‘t disappoint, the plot was great, the characters all well written & the ending was both a surprise & a shock(I may have cried)I also love how the author brings alive her settings, Northumberland is not a well known part of the UK & I‘ve enjoyed learning more about it. #BookspinBingo #SeriesRead2022

Cinfhen Yay!!! So glad you‘re on a reading roll 🎲🎲 3mo
Lizpixie @Cinfhen thanks lovely! It‘s a relief that‘s for sure, was starting to worry I‘d never get my reading back🙇🏻‍♀️ 3mo

Two more new #bookmail from Waterstones came today. It‘s new release time in the publishing world so my preorders are coming in a flood & trickle. The new Vera novel is one I‘ve been looking forward too and who doesn‘t love a signed hardcover. 50yrs ago a group of teenagers spent a weekend on Holy Island & now go back every 5yrs to remember the friend they lost crossing the causeway. Now another is dead & Vera thinks they‘re connected.

I attended an online author event with Ann Cleeves discussing her new book. My local Independent Book Store was one of the bookstores that offered the opportunity. Excellent interview, and I was able to pick up my signed copy at Main Point Books, even though Ann Cleeves was in England. Plus a Vera bookmark! The wonders of technology!

What books are you looking forward to read this autumn?

For fifty years a group of friends have been meeting for reunions on Holy Island, celebrating the school trip where they met, and the friend that they lost to the rising tide five years later. Now, when one of them is found hanged, Vera is called in.

EadieB Learning that the dead man had recently been fired after misconduct and allegations, Vera knows she must discover what the friends are hiding, and whether the events of many years before could have led to murder then, and now.
This is book number 10 in the Vera series. I have read all the others before so I am very familiar with the series.

EadieB It is a series of characters that speak for the author and the plot is such that I have kept the pages turning until the very surprising ending. It is very hard to guess the killer as Ann Cleeves does not leave anything unturned until the very end. I look forward to the next book as I have enjoyed each one. If you love thrillers then you will love this one. I would like to thank NetGalley and Minotaur Books for a copy for an honest review. 6mo

Andrew65 @EadieB For most other authors I would get a bit frustrated with this, but she definitely makes it work. (edited) 6mo
EadieB @Andrew65 You can‘t try to figure it out so you just go with until the end! 6mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Exactly that! She does write great books and stories. 6mo
