Awesome book. I loved the pacing and short chapters, as it was easy to read a few in between a busy day. I definitely want to check out some more of Grisham‘s work

Vintage Grisham which had all the things I absolutely love about his book. Could only have been improved with a slightly more robust edit. I‘m ready for the sequel now.

Today was the Tandem Collective Global Watchalong of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐦, the film adaption of 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦's bestselling thriller! I really enjoyed again watching the film -- which remains among my all-time favorites -- with my in-person book club!
The film holds a special place in my heart because I saw it in the theater in July 1993. . . the day after I finished taking the California Bar exam!!
Just released our thriller nomination episode over on Patreon. We are going to do a thriller group read and we take some time to make a list of potential books. Check it out if you are at all interested!

This was in our hometown newspaper archives. That is John Grisham who won the spelling bee in our little town of three red lights!! He sold his first book out of the trunk of his car at Griffins supermarket parking lot across the street from where this picture was taken
I've overgrown Grisham. I just feel like this is sooooo not for me anymore. Not even if it is a bit entertaining. I'm moving on to books that have characters who are not the at everything and aren't able to work 80 hour weeks and who have atleast some depth as a character. Also I'm really over the sexism. Women shouldn't be in books only because they have nice legs and the ability to choose furniture and wallpaper. So I'm done. Bye! 🤦♀️
Meh. It was interesting but the plot dragged on a bit too long, the ending was weird, and there were some definite racist undertones.

There were cassette tapes, microfiche, and copy machines in this thriller and inflation gives the monetary references and interesting impact, but this 1999 thriller is still a great read. Tom Cruise was the only actor I recalled from the movie so I googled the cast so I could give a face to the other characters.

The Firm ( Italian version). This was a very nice reading. Increasing tension through the story that develops very rapidly in a very complex set up against everybody. But this is pure Grishman: it has the “power” to keep you reading, reading, and reading till you get to the end of the book. #2020
Finally trying this book. I can see why it‘s a classic. Quite absorbing.
Grisham is not my normal fare, I only read it because one of my challenge prompts was “a legal or medical thriller”. I could not put it down! Grisham‘s abilty to build the tension up slowly until the exciting final push and resolution is amazing. Man-hunts, gun fights, close escapes are pretty standard fare in action thrillers, but making file copying into a nail-biting scene - that takes talent. Kudos, Mr. Grisham. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What should I dive into this afternoon? Current read or fresh off my TBR pile? I‘m trying to let Jamaica Bob decide for me, but he‘s not been much help so far 🤪😂📖
I can never go wrong reading this, no matter how many times I've read it before. A bit scary is the fact how much more of it I can understand now that I'm a lawyer (don't worry, not the bad parts).
This was my first pick off the John Grisham's novels and I am still glad that I picked it. A very thrilling journey this book provides of a lawyer who has just graduated and is hired by a law firm. He is paid immensely and is also provided by all the luxuries like a Mercedes, a house to live in, et cetra. But he is unaware that many secrets awaits him in the firm.
Not my first book and bubble bath shot, and definitely won't be my last. #lovestatutoryholidays
Time to take a break from the declutter part of my mission to read a book I know WON'T be leaving my shelf any time soon. This was the first John Grisham book I ever read and, as you can tell by the worn cover and spine, loved. I know it goes against my decluttering mission, but I also want to start reorganizing my bookshelf, so this is a good next read.
So okay. I just finished John Grisham; The Firm two days ago and I have a lot of mixed feelings. Its a very detailed book of 624 pages. Though i read it in Hungarian It definitely improved my vocabulary. It's very very exciting and keeps you on edge till the end. I felt like it was a little incomplete there were a lot of characters who I did not get detailed information about there life after the story, but aside that it was very good. It's a pick
This story about suspicious activities at a Memphis tax law firm is, fortunately, not too mentally taxing because I‘m sick now! 😷 caught son‘s cold. This is one of son‘s books. Hopefully I‘ll feel well enough tomorrow to finish up what still needs to be done for Christmas.
#Rocktober #day4 #SlipperyPeople What type of person is more slippery than a lawyer? Well...maybe a politician, but most of them were lawyers first weren't they?I think spinning bullshit in a courtroom is great practice for spinning bullshit on a political stage. Mitch McDeere joins a small law firm in Memphis after graduating law school. When he finds a high "accidental death" rate at his new firm, he starts to investigate. Not good for his health!
I'd somehow never read Grisham before so I thought it was about time. Slow start, but in fairness the last section was pretty exciting. Just found it hard to really care about the main character, which I think is a fairly major flaw in a book of this kind.
Jabbered? Really? Wow.
The first 40 pages are basically Yuppie Porn. We're gonna pay you so much! And a BMW! And health care! (Ha! I'm European -we get that shit at birth lol!)
All that would have taken 20 minutes max. Maybe wait till he gets home next time ;)
I loved this book, the idea of the perfect job turning sour because of bugs and FBI agents. Exciting page turner.
This might be my favourite book, I recently read it for at least the 10th time, finding something new and getting totally caught up in the action every time.
My current #audiobook - I just listened Calico Joe by John Grisham (my first experience with the author) and found it was super easy to get into. I immediately downloaded this one when I finished. Almost half way through and so far, so good. Very compelling. I totally see why this author appeals to the masses. #iloveairplanebooks
An outdoor goods store in Memphis! (No, not Vegas). I asked a business associate there if he's heard of the novel The Firm and he replied, "not only have I heard of it, I was also in the film! For one second. My one second of fame." Lol
Soooo... John Grisham... an author I'm only familiar with via audiobooks on road trips with my mom... just liked my photos on Instagram?
For #PublishedInThe1990s, I have to choose my first legal thriller!
Reading The Firm and living in Memphis at the time of filming was pretty exciting. I never visited any of the locations while filming, but I've driven down Riverside Drive many a time, loved the sandwiches at the cramped Front Street Deli, and watched the parade of ducks at the Peabody Hotel. And the priest in the funeral scene was the priest at the church my parents attended.
#photoadaynov16 #publishedinthe90s #publishedinthe1990s This is the only John Grisham I've read and in the 90's it seemed like everybody was reading it. Something quintessentially 90s about it me, as well as the Tom Cruise movie. @RealLifeReading
#photoadaynov16 #publishedinthe1990s So, I have to admit...before I truly acquired an appreciation for fine literature John & James were my literary gods, who dominated my 90's reading 🙊😬🙈 I'm NOT throwing shade...still much love for these writers 💕
I wish the first half of the book wasn't bogged down in so many details about salaries, perks and backstories. I was almost about to give up when everything started unrolling... and it was beautiful... kept you on your feet and out of breath.
Given this is one of Grisham's first novels, I am willing to set aside stock characters and over the top scenarios for a well-plotted, original legal story.
P.S. Does this man look like Christian Bale?
Missed yesterday's #bookssetinsouthamerica challenge.. I can't imagine I haven't read a single book set in South America.. Time to change that.. These are the only two books with #textonlycovers I could find .. #booktober
I know I'm late on reading Grisham... but am very intrigued by this first character I meet where he is being interviewed by a law firm. Very intrigued...
Haven't read this one yet, but I thought I could share the deal for those who want to take a look.
