I really enjoy the observational, acerbic, sometimes gross and bittersweet humor of Samantha Irby. I especially loved hearing her read the essays this time.

Another good one! Just need to read Meaty and I will have finished all of Irby‘s book in one season. 😅
Got this photo from the author‘s instagram.
Another excellent essay collection from Sam Irby, this time focused on her life married in the Michigan suburbs. A quick and fun read!
This essayist is really fucking funny. I kept going from laughing my face off to nearly vomiting. Because she's also a little bit gross. This wasn't my first adventure with her. It absolutely met my very high expectations. She reads her own #audiobook. Definitely recommend.

This wasn't my favorite Irby book but it still made me laugh a lot and I will always love listening to her stories. Lots of potty humor so I wouldn't recommend to anyone sensitive to in depth descriptions about bodily fluids. But if you're familiar with her other work, you already know 😅💩
In turns vulgar, funny, and sweet. It‘s not for everyone, but I liked it.
An essay collection about a variety of life moments- reminded me of David Sedaris‘s ability to take dropping a dog off at a doggie day care into a hilarious, laugh at loud read. Some of the essays are so funny, excellent and only 1-2 went a little too far for me. This is a great one- I laughed at loud in public at quite a number of her essays.
Irby‘s Judge Mathis Substack is probably one of the funniest things anyone has ever written but unfortunately the book just doesn‘t hit the same mark. Some of the essays in this book (DMB!) are really excellent but she‘s also extremely vulgar so you have to take that into consideration.
So good! Hysterically funny as usual, honest and relatable. Though dark at times, her perspective is fresh and somehow hopeful. Lots of potty humor so if that bothers you, you may want to skip this one. I highly recommend in #audio as she reads it herself and it is amazing! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
I will always put a new Samantha Irby audiobook on hold at the library as soon as it is announced. As much as I would love to hang out with her and compare high school mix tapes, I must admit that this one didn‘t work for me overall. The SATC chapter in particular seemed never ending.
Listened to the audiobook of this one, the only way to go with Irby, and it was on par with the her others. She‘s just hilarious to me. I laughed out loud so many times 😂 As many others have noted, if you can‘t handle poop talk, this surely is not the book for you! I could have done without the Sex & the City chapter because I don‘t care lol.
Side note: Taylor Swift nails — we saw her Eras show last night and it was so amazing!! 💖🤩
I truly enjoy this woman. She is kinda gross, but oh so relatable, hilarious, and weird. I *would* say I'd love to meet her, but as a fellow introvert, I say instead, “Nah. I'm good.“
Thanks to #librofm for the #alc!

Funny stuff. I‘ve enjoyed all of Irby‘s collections. I‘m not a Sex and the City fan so was ready for that long essay to end, but overall an entertaining listen.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This title could easily describe me. 😂 Irby is a must read, y‘all. So smart, funny, and honest. Her self deprecation is relatable, too. She details bodily functions sometimes - this is nothing new, if you‘ve read her previous essay collections - but it‘s so damn funny, you get past the cringe. Personal essays are some of my favorite nonfiction. I just love her! #coverlove
I was glad this came up as my #doublespin this month, because I was super excited to listen! I know Samantha Irby is not everyone's cup of tea (she is the queen of TMI), but I always find her hilarious (and often relatable).
@TheAromaofBooks
Super easy to read, Irby tells a good story. Unfortunately too many of the essays seemed fragmented to me and I wasn‘t equally interested in all of the subject matter - not super into poop.
Not my favourite Samantha Irby (a couple of these essays didn't actually land for me) but this was still a very funny and occasionally poignant read. My favourite one was "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?", which is about her reconnecting with a half brother she never really knew. Also, her satiric rewriting of all the original Sex and the City episodes was hilarious and especially interesting because she is a writer on the reboot!
Add me to the list of Samantha Irby fans who bought this for the cover but just *had* to read via audiobook. (I‘ve enjoyed flipping through the print after listening, though, as it‘s full of all-caps emphases, unclickable links, bursts of exclamation points, and other fun flourishes.) Loved this as I have loved each of her other books. No matter the topic, she is just very funny. Book posed by the garden gate that my husband has tried ⬇️
Of course I actually listened to the audio, because I love her inflection and hearing it in her voice.
I hope her book covers will always be in this bright with animals format, and that she‘ll do many more.
This felt like a frank hang out with a good friend. Good stuff!
I loved this!
Now, don‘t ostracise me from Litsy but this is the first Irby I‘ve read / listened to….
I‘m definitely going to listen to more and have found two on Scribd audio (Wow, No Thank You and We Are Never Meeting in Real Life)
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Samantha Irby is hilarious.
And although there were a few essays that weren't exactly my cuppa (porn preferences, toilet tales, and gastrointestinal anecdotes), there was plenty of her signature self-deprecating humor and spot-on observations to carry this collection through. I especially loved "The Last Normal Day," "How to Look Cool in Front of Teens?", and "Please Invite Me to Your Party."

Samantha Irby is always a bit much for me in terms of graphically discussing bodily functions; I‘m not a poo humor kind of girl, but she is. That said, I still mostly enjoyed this book; however, I thought the Sex and the City essay would never end. It was funny for the first few pages but got old. I‘m still enjoying Brandi Carlile on my walks. #audiowalk
I love all of Samantha Irby's books so far, so I'm really looking forward to her newest one! #catsoflitsy #chaplin
In 2018 I was on a disaster work trip full of cancelled flights at both ends and a dinner with people holding Very Important Titles in a restaurant so intimidatingly fancy that my regular-person ass cried in the hotel afterward from pent-up anxiety- but I was reading a Samantha Irby book and it kept me laughing. I'm listening to her new book on a work trip again, this time a bit older and wiser. But I still appreciate having her voice with me. ❤️
I adore Samantha Irby so so very much. She is one of the few authors that consistently make me laugh out loud. This was the perfect accompaniment to a trash work week. 👍🏼
The only thing I love more than a new Samantha Irby book is Sam herself reading it to me on audio. I just loved this. Lots of snort laughing plus appreciation that she‘s so willing to share the parts of herself most people wouldn‘t. And the way she would rewrite old Sex and the City episodes is a hoot!
Pretty sure this is my favorite quote in the whole book, though there‘s lots of competition. I think other childless by choice folks like myself will appreciate this one. 😂
New release day! This‘ll be up next on my audio list, can‘t wait.
I love that she continues to have these bright background animal covers on all her books. 🧡
ARC out in May
This was super hit or miss. I was literally laughing out loud at the first 2 essays, and then 3 pages into the 23 page Sex in the City one I had to skip to the next one.
The humor feels crasser than her previous book. I am not a prude but 20 pages of dissecting Nun porn was too much.
But then I would turn the page and be laughing again at her essay on Dave Matthews.
It is a book to borrow if you enjoyed her others.

When your dog is “Quietly Hostile” because he doesn‘t want you reading 😂😂😂😂
Soo excited for this book!!! 😃 this lady never fails with her hilarious, yet very real and down to earth essays. I‘m glad to see her back. 😎
