Did I think this lived up to the hype? Mostly. I was waiting for the twist…thought I had it figured out…but I was wrong. I‘m excited to watch the series now. ☺️

What a twist! Thank you, Mr. Landay, for writing this book—it‘s a new favorite of mine, and one I‘ll think about and re-read for years to come. 5⭐️
First line: In April 2008, Neal Logiudice finally subpoenaed me to appear before the grand jury.
Am glad I finally picked this up, its been a long time since I read a courtroom drama and this is a very good version of that.
This entire story is told from the perspective of Andy Barber who is the DA's Assistant and whose 14 year old's son is accused of murder.
I thought this was a great concept, seeing the trial play out through the eyes of a prosecutor, the father of the accused was frustrating and unreliable but also compelling.
My #12Booksof2022 for May. One of the best twists I‘ve ever read!
This took me a while to get through, not because it isn‘t good (it‘s excellent) but because I saw the series soon after it came out. Thank you, Chris Evans! 😛 Knowing what it was all about, I didn‘t feel the need to rush through it. There were some differences, but the adaptation was pretty close to the book. The big twist is truly awesome and one I don‘t think anyone could see coming!

#booked2022 - adapted for the small screen
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how the prosecution played out and the ending was definitely an unexpected ending!
Only a couple chapters left. I made up my mind chapters ago. #Jacobdidit Book #12 of 2021
1. My job is going to be changing. My little team of 3 is growing by one more! 🎉 I am a part time licensed real estate operations manager - read “admin” - so one more team member to support means more work. I‘m excited, but things are going to change. Might not be so part time anymore, and I don‘t know what that will mean for my family/kids.
2. My health and my supportive hubby!

Play along?
So, because I didn‘t finish this for 2020 (I only got 50 pages in), I started it over again yesterday so that it‘ll be book 1 of 2021. I‘m 300 pages in, I‘m enthralled, and I can ABSOLUTELY see Chris Evans being amazing as Andy. (Of course, I love him always, but Andy is simultaneously right in his wheelhouse and also against type and I love a good divergence. Can‘t wait to finish the book so I can watch the series!) #defendingjacob #williamlanday
I definitely want to watch the series at some point (duh, love of my life Chris Evans AND my princess Michelle Dockery!!), but I wanted to read the book first. 🤷🏻♀️ #defendingjacob #williamlanday
#3books Made into TV series
*Hot Male Lead Edition*
I haven't read any of the books so I don't know how close they are to the source material, but The Witcher & Poldark were good. My guy just signed up for an Apple TV trial so I can watch Chris Evans.
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
This book was an absolute roller coaster, and written in a very gripping manner. A really compelling read. The Apple Original limited TV series on the other hand was not at all as great as the book. Again, the audio book narration did justice to the book.
So this had popped up on my radar a few years, but only recently piqued my interest. Because, Chris Evans 😁 obviously I can‘t start a series before I read the book. I found myself grappling until the very end - did he or didn‘t he? When a book can do that, and still give you doubts then it‘s a good book. Chris Evans doesn‘t hurt either. I actually found myself reading it in his voice, which I loved.
Chris Evans 🤤
BAM! Talk about impact! You can't hear it, but this is me with the slow clap. 👏
This was expertly written. I was not a fan of the audiobook narrator for this one, but the book was so darn good after a while I just didn't care. I was so engrossed. This just leaves you guessing the entire time. #highlyrecommend #lovedit #bookspin #bookspinbingo
I'm loving this y'all! About 75% through. It's so intense. The dialogue is powerful. I can't wait to see how this ends!

I just picked this one up on vacation so I was excited when it came up in #bookspinbingo. Getting started now. Hope it's another good one, so far I'm off to a good start in August.

First up #16 - Defending Jacob
I almost stopped reading this one. But it is beloved by people whose bookish opinions I usually mesh with, and also Chris Evans. (Damn you, Chris Evans!) The ending was unbelievable. (As in, Wow, I don't believe that for a second. Not as in, Wow! Unbelievable!) I felt like Landay was trying to dig deep into the psychology of our lead, except none of that rang true either. The characters were two-dimensional.
I heard about the mini series, decided to read the book first. The choice to write in the POV of the father of 14 year old Jacob, accused of murder was a great choice. I liked the style of giving us the courtroom transcript in a different font with no explanations a great device. Makes you wonder what it‘s like to be related to evil people. Looking forward to the mini series
Y‘all...I‘m trying SO HARD with this book. I really want to know who the murderer is! But damn...there is A LOT of this kind of thing going on. The girl he‘s talking about (and his son btw) are in 8TH GRADE. Every woman in this book has descriptors like this. His wife‘s breasts are “defeated by age.” The arraignment judge is a super attractive Latina he calls “Lard-Ass.” Is finishing the book worth it??
⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½ • I read to compare to the Apple TV+ series. Overall I liked the story but I HATED Andy. His internal dialog says mean & irrelevant things about women‘s bodies when he describes them. Describing a female middle schooler: “She was not fat, but she was not thin enough for the tight t-shirt she wore.” Many other examples. Are these judgements the character or the author talking? Either way, I don‘t like it. The white male gaze is exhausting.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is very well written. There are surprises throughout that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The book honestly leaves so much up to interpretation, as though the readers are the real jury. I really enjoyed this book, but had to downgrade it for language (numerous f-bombs) and a few subtle agendas with which I don‘t agree. It‘s still a good book overall and I would recommend it with those warnings.
I can‘t believe it took me so long to read this book! It has been on my TBR for a while now, so when I heard about the show I decided to watch it first! I usually read the book first but I couldn‘t resist watching Chris Evans! I loved the show, but holy cow the book was so much better! (Of course!) This was definitely a book I couldn‘t put down! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!
I‘ve had this on my TBR for a while now and after watching the show I had to start the book! I‘m on vacation from work for the next ten days so I definitely plan to finish this and several more hopefully! It‘s pretty good so far and I can‘t put it down!
Absolutely Brilliant , boy accused of murder dad a prosecutor, couldn't put it down
It was great story and definitely ended in a way I was not expecting. I am really not sure what to think of the end but it was really good. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and their development.
@Cathythoughts Well, I just finished it. I found it very entertaining and wanted to keep reading it. I‘m confused by the ending, though...
A riveting read ... just the job in these times .. took me away from the world for awhile. And I didn‘t guess the ending 👍🏻 crime / thriller/ court room drama / family drama .... a really good read. Not interested in seeing the tv show though. That was enough of that now.
Managed to rustle up enough energy to finish this tonight! Don‘t let that reflect on the book though, I thought it was an excellent, well written thriller. Actually looking forward to watching as think it will translate really well.
A good read 👍🏻

Anyone else watching Defending Jacob on Apple TV? You can watch it for free but you do need an Apple ID, which warning was a pain in the butt without having any Apple devices or iTunes acct, but eventually figured out.
This was as interesting, complicated story. Being a parent of a 14 year old boy (like Jacob) I could see how both parents could have reacted the way they did throughout. I honestly don‘t know what I would do given the same situations. I can also say that I did not see the ending coming. Overall a really thought provoking and page turning book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

New King arrived yesterday, so started yesterday.
My daughter has a weeks free trial for Apple TV and plans to watch Defending Jacob, so I want to read the book first (which was #99ponkindle yesterday!).
Brain fog means I can‘t think any further than these two at the moment.
My first finish for the #readathon. I almost bailed on this book as the beginning seemed to be a rendering of Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow. I am glad that I persevered, it eventually found its feet and it‘s own identity. It is more than just the story of a murder, but it is the story of family, of relationships, of impressions and gut instincts. It was engaging and suspenseful to the end.

1) tagged book
2) A lot actually, I'm not a bailer. Usually only bail on self help books or if I can't choke the story line down.
3) I don't have one at the moment...

What level will a parent go to defend their child? As a mother I am completely understanding the position of the father. He is going to do anything in his power to protect his son. But can a mother begin to lose hope.
So far it is starting.slow but I am intrigued to figure out where this story will lead. I have read the first four chapters.
