The Coworker
The Coworker | Freida McFadden
"Dawn Schiff is strange. At least, everyone at work thinks so. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m. So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell-beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running-is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything... Now, Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who's the real victim? But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff. Enough to kill."--

December 23, 2024 Finished! A book in two days? That is a record. But it is no surprise that I read a Frieda McFadden book in TWO DAYS. I read most of it yesterday and then like the last 100 pages today. So let's talk about the ending shall we? Hmmmm Idk how much I can share but I will say I was caught off guard. It was an unexpected ending. I am only going to say I was shook 😆 I would give this book 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 23, 2024 More important key info has evolved from Dawn. Dawn and Caleb are a couple. Dawn met Caleb through Mia. Caleb is Mia's half brother. Dawn had crush on Caleb in high school and Mia was Dawn's ONLY friend. Natalie had bullied Mia so Dawn felt like the right thing to do was get revenge back and put Natalie behind bars... Natalie is still behind bars, likely for a crime that she didnt commit. Will she be in prison for life or not?

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 23, 2024 Ok. The events just got twisted. I am in for a good twist. I have reached page 264 and Part II of the book starts on page 253. Chapter 45 is Dawn, which means that Dawn is still alive and Dawn or Caleb pretended that Dawn was dead when actually Dawn replaced herself with someone else. "The body of Dawn Schiff. Or so they think. They're going to figure out it's not you sooner or later" (page 264)

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 22, 2024 Last post for today, I promise. Natalie was caught by Seth ber boss for embezzling money and lying about how the vitamins help people look better and feel better. Natalie is dangerous and mean. Is she the killer in Dawns' death OR did someone in the office frame Natalie? We still do not know. As of Chapter 43, the detective is joined by his crew as they search her house for evidence of any objects that may have been used.

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 22, 2024 (continued from last post) For some reason, my gut is thinking that someone framed Natalie for killing Dawn by placing a ceramic turtle inside her laundry hamper when she left her door unlocked. WHO could it be? Caleb? Seth? Seth's wife? Natalie's best friend Kim? Dawn's close friend Mia? Time will tell 👀

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden
post image

December 22, 2024 Yes yes yes I have reached Chapter 41; page 231. This is more than half of the book. So far Dawn has a changed mindset and disliking towards Natalie because initially when Natalie introduced herself, she was nice. Everyone liked her. Then she began bullying Dawn and word spread in the office that she was bullying her since she was different and strange. Dawn really doesnt like her. The defective makes visits. Is Natalie guilty?

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 22, 2024 Now I have reached page 114 and the detective has asked three suspects: Seth, the manager of Vixed, which sells nutritional vitamins, the bf of Natalie, Caleb, and Natalie herself. Natalie is feeling very sick to her stomach whenever the detective comes into her office building. Does he suspect that she killed Dawn? Because Dawn is nowhere to be found. Dawn is a strange person according to Natalie but why would Natalie kill her?

blurb
lilpumpkin2.0
The Coworker | Freida McFadden

December 22, 2024 Just started reading the book and I am already hooked. Things are going down as of page 80. So far Natalie, who is Dawn Schiff's coworker, has gone to Dawns' house and tried to see if Dawn was there. There was no sign of Dawn but LOTS OF BLOOD. When questioned by police and the dectective, Natalie said that was there with her bf all night the day that Dawn had gone missing. "You see her everyday. But do you really know her?"

Not my favorite by McFadden but sill a decent read. When Natalie‘s weird coworker goes missing she somehow becomes wrapped up in being a potential murder suspect. Lots of twists and the author always finds a way to weave a story that I don‘t see coming.

•After not liking The Locked Door by this author, I found it difficult to try another by her. I finally caved in the spur of the moment and tried this one after a couple of DNFs of other books. And guess what, I didn‘t hate it, although the narrator was much better in this one. Also, the twists weren‘t completely out of left field so that helped.

4 Stars • The Coworker by Freida McFadden is a psychological thriller centered around two women, Dawn Schiff and Natalie Farrell, who work at Vixed, a nutritional supplement company. The story begins when Dawn doesn't show up for work one morning, prompting concern from Natalie. ⬇️

suvata The situation escalates when Natalie receives an anonymous phone call saying "Help me," which sounds like Dawn's voice. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes apparent that Dawn was more than just an awkward outsider; she was targeted by someone close to her. 3mo

The story centers around an unassuming protagonist who finds herself entangled with a charismatic but enigmatic coworker. As the plot unfolds, McFadden skillfully weaves tension and suspense, revealing dark secrets that challenge loyalty and trust. When I thought I knew what‘s happened - turn the page and I‘m somewhat blindsided. Quick fast paced read! Now onto The Inmate!

Alright, I have been binging this author‘s books this past week and this was the most predictable read. Not to say I didn‘t like it…maybe I am in a Freida McFadden hangover, but this one was easy to piece together. Pushy detective, bullies, health supplements, office romances, emails, a charity run, and turtles…a shit-ton of turtles. You will learn lots of random facts about turtles, and that‘s the cold, hard truth. Give it a read, it is decent.

LiteraryinPA Ha, your reviews about this author make me chuckle. 😋 7mo

It definitely kept my attention. What I am finding in common in the 2 McFadden books I have read thus far, is that she is a really good storyteller, weaving together a truly difficult to predict resolution; however, she relies almost too heavily on the unreliable narrator trope, and on all of her characters being truly unbelievably unlikeable people. I find myself getting irrationally angry at fictional characters.

Boy, I didn't want to put this one down. It had twists in it. I did not expect what happened to happen. If you like psychological thrillers, you should read The Coworker. McFadden looked at a serious subject with this one: bullying. It doesn't just happen to kids, it happens to adults too.

Freida McFadden writes books that keep your attention and make you want to know what happens at the end. And then you forgot about them. This story is about socially dysfunctional Dawn and beautiful Natalie who has it all. They work together, but what is their real connection? And what about the two men in their lives? If it was still summer I would call this a beach read.

This was an easy read that I sped through in a handful of hours. We have two polar opposite coworkers, both unreliable narrators, as you try to determine who is telling the truth. The “who” didn‘t surprise me, but the “how” & “why” was exciting to unfold. There are blurry lines and questions of morality, and McFadden does a good job of keeping it entertaining throughout. Although we could have pulled back on “turtles” as a personality trait!
