Pickpick

An odd sort of book, not what I expected from the blurb. The protagonist, Jack, spends his summer between trying to solve riddle, and sleeping with the women in the house he‘s staying at. His attitude to sex brought to mind Henry Miller‘s Tropic novels.

It‘s set in Cley, where I‘m getting married 13 weeks today, which makes it #APlaceYouLove #FictionalTraveller @julieclair
Book 14/60, Page 3,953/18,000 #Read2025 @DieAReader

TheEllieMo I‘ve also found out, after finishing it, that the author was the son of actor Rex Harrison (of My Fair Lady and Doctor Doolittle, amongst many other roles), and died at the age of 80 in January of this year. 22h
julieclair Congrats on your upcoming wedding! How wonderful! 14h

I read this in my native language, and really enjoyed it! Can't remember the last time I read Afrikaans.
Meyer has this gripping writing style with a lot of tension, drama and politics. Combined with very broken characters, only ever trying their best.
Adding to that; all of his books are set in one of my favourite places: Cape Town.
My only complaint is the fowl language.

A great crime story for everyone interested in Japan and Japanese culture. Written in 1958 it‘s right after WWII and Japan is dealing with a dark past. A woman marries but within a month her husband goes missing. She travels by train through the country, looking for clues. Everyone is polite, everyone is calm but oh, beneath the surface! Loved it - especially for its atmosphere!

Anna Love and Leo Knight are in Prague to learn about brewing beer, but only one of them will have the honor of having their beer featured at the Christmas Beer Festival. I loved everything about their story in the city of a hundred spires 💕

My February #FictionalTraveler choice is The Telephone Box Library. It‘s set in The Cotswolds, which for me, truly fulfills the prompt #APlaceYouLove .

Some of you have already posted your February choices. What will everyone else be reading? It‘s fun to see all the places we love!
