#PersephoneClub2023 (February) When at the beginning of this novel, I saw Mrs. Knapp behavior, I couldn‘t stand her, a controller OCD mother-woman. But then, behind her behavior I saw a frustrated, depressed woman repressed for not fulfilled her goals in life, but “obliged” to follow “society stereotypes mother-woman roles”. What a change in the dynamic of this family after Lester accident. The roles in each member will change, for good⬇️

Gissy I think the author was amazing in explaining through the characters self talking/reflexions, about how emotionally “trapped” an individual could be by following stereotyped roles. It could be devastated. We still don‘t see an open communication here, it would be “against” what is established by society to accept these new roles, so Lester condition has a “purpose” it will be “an excuse” to continue with these new roles. ⬇️ 4w
Gissy Based on what I read, the author didn‘t consider herself as a “feminist” but she gave a voice to this woman to express herself. I really liked this novel taking I‘m analyzing it from that time perspective was amazing. I think we still see some bias in these type of roles in our time. 4.5⭐️ @LeahBergen Love this cover😍

LeahBergen Great review! I kept thinking about the time perspective, too, as I read it and thought how shocking that marital relationship would be for that era. 4w
Gissy @LeahBergen That‘s true. I read that the author‘s husband helped her so she could have time to write.

I follow Britta Bohler, a YouTuber, who said that she reads these novels to have a picture of the thinking process of the era, what these women like to write, read, a stamp of their lives even when not necessarily she agree with some roles. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to discover these amazing books📚🥰

What I enjoyed of this story was the psychological analysis made for almost every single main characters. How well those dysfunctional personalities were described by that time. They were analyzing each other😂 Also I liked that Poirot analyzed the “suspects” from different angles to support or discard his involvement in the crime. I still think the end was a little rushed. But how arrogant, narcissistic Poirot is, what a character☺️3.8⭐️

Gissy I will be late in all the Readathons I‘m participating but I will read the books, I‘m a slow reader🤷🏽‍♀️

Emma will have 2 different love experiences in two different multiuniverse, she will live in accordance with her fate and choice. Some persons will be a “constant” in each multiuniverse . At the end end of the audiobook, author explained the concept of multiuniverse which she believes exist & why she doesn‘t believe in soulmate but in choices. As she said to her husband: my heart breaks for every single version of me that didn‘t end up with you”⬇️

What can I say about this author? I love all her books. Another powerful story about family, religion, beliefs, cultural traditions, identity, personal growing, forgiveness, love, friendship, brother-sister relation, second opportunities in a concise way, in few pages. I really enjoyed also the audiobook because she is the narrator. My edition has a letter from the author and the book has some annotations also by the author.
❤️4.5⭐️

Gissy #Foodandlit2023 (February-Dominican Republic) @Catsandbooks @Texreader Well I will say that where I go to do my nails, she is Dominican and her coffee ☕️ is out of this world. She is always offering me something that she cook. So I tasted something from this country to cover that part☺️

Gissy @Catsandbooks Yes! She is amazing, I have tried to make the coffee the same way as she makes it but no way, never is the same🤷🏽‍♀️there is a Dominican secret in that coffee ☕️ 😋I tasted hot cereal made by her and it is soooo goood with chocolate. Arroz con pollo is a common plate in our cuisine but they use other ingredients and it is delicious too. Mmm. Are you from Dominican Republic? 3mo
Catsandbooks @Gissy that all sounds great!! I am not from DR. I'm from the US and unfortunately have not had a chance to travel outside the US either. One day 🤞🏼That's one reason I love and host #FoodandLit is because I get to travel through books and food! 3mo
Gissy @Catsandbooks Great idea! I ordered a book by an author from Uganda, the country you chose for January. It haven‘t arrive yet but I think this is a wonderful idea to explore the country at least through online and know new authors from other countries. 3mo

The Murder at the Vicarage | Agatha Christie

I always enjoyed Agatha Christie cozy mysteries. There was a murder in this small town and everyone has an opinion of what happened. As the vicar said “The whole village of St Mary Mead probably knows exactly where you keep your toothbrush and what kind of tooth powder you use...if you change your shaving cream it will be a topic of conversation”🤣Miss Marple, who they said past her time looking through the window😳will discover the mystery⬇️

Gissy There were so many funny parts in this novel. But I also found various pejorative comments against women🙁I count at least 7😐Besides those comments, that I can ignored because it was “a silly woman” who resolved the mystery👍 I really enjoyed the novel. 3/3.5⭐️

batsy Yes, it was really fun but a lot of British books written in this era (in my experience) tend to have terrible bits steeped in racism, sexism, classism, you name it 😕 3mo

A sad story but beautifully written. The life of these four generations I would say, from 1938 to 2005. How war, political and social situations in China impacted these families. Fear didn‘t stop with the immigration to US. You will love Meilin as a woman, mother, daughter and grandmother. I can‘t imagine how, in this present day, some countries are still facing the consequences of war😢Fiction but maybe inspired in author‘s family story. 4.5/5⭐️

This is an interesting book because it is a slow pace, more character driven I would say, mild creepy, mild gory. People that come from the dead from a forbidden wood, but why, since when. You need to read it. This is the first book I read by this author and I think I want to read more. I already own like 3 of her books. 3.8⭐️

Great YA fantasy. I liked this world of old libraries full of magical/secret grimoires protected by sorcerers. But those sorcerers can be corrupted by demons and as expected, one person wants to control the magic. Most fantasy worlds have this topic🤷🏽‍♀️There is some romance and family drama. Loved Silas and Nathaniel and his comments. There is a companion book that I need to read now☺️still YA 3.8/4⭐️

Mehso-so

I liked this book but didn‘t love it. I liked the characters, the different stories but it was difficult for me to see the story integrated, as a whole. I saw some parts like forced maybe because the author wanted to mention something about the pandemic situation? I don‘t know, maybe it was me. I was expecting more. But I really enjoyed those passages related with American Indian traditions, beliefs. I took my time to seek more information.

Gissy I liked this UK edition 3.75⭐️
